Hi all,

I've read several discussion forums now about the merits of an aftermarket dump pipe and matching front pipe. There seems to be some dispute as to whether to include the separate pipe coming from the actuator and rejoining it later or just have one big pipe. I'm looking for all your opinions/experiences as this mod is one i'm planning on doing soon.

Also, did you guys get a Japanese pre-made pipe or did you get a Perth exhaust shop to make you one? If you did, where did you go and how did you find them?

Cheers for all your responses.:)

Thats separate pipe coming from the wastegate, the actuator is the round diaphragm thing on the outside that controls the waste gate.

As most std dump pipes have a solid plate for the wastegated gas to hit and then try and turn 90 deg and mix with the rest of the gas coming out then logically, that is not good.

The one big pipe scenario is ok but still put a splitter sheild between the two outlets ( wastegate and main turbo exit gases ).

Is what is done with a lot of Rexes with good results.

The seperate pipe for the wastegate which blends in further down has got to be a better way of exiting all the spent gases and a quality local exhaust shop could do it for you at prolly a similar price to a new Jap one.

Had a dump and front pipe built by Exhaust Dynamics - they do mainly performace work and it is all to a very high standard, all welding is cleaned up inside the pipe as well to ensure the best flow.

The type of dump style they use is a integrated turbine and wastegate arrangement - as recommended by Per4manz (they do the custom work for Per4maz)- for stock turbos as being the 'best'.

The guys are really professional and very friendly. Showed me the pipe after they had built it, prior to fitting. Total cost for a mild steel is $350+gst ($385) or stainless is about $100 more.

Can only recommend them.

The sepparate wastegate pipe design can be a problem on the stock turbo and is not proven to produce any better results.

Around $400 in 3inch stainless is what Quick fit exhausts in Morley charged me for the dump pipe to the cat. It's very well made. I wrapped mine in exhaust tape for good measure as well (DEI tape from revolution racegear costs around $100 for the 2inch wide 60ft roll).

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
