Guys, I am looking to upgade my turbo. I've got these mods -

FMIC

Full Custom Exhaust (very good quality)

PowerFC

225 lph Fuel Pump

Stock BOV

Steel Turbo to Pod Pipe, Pod is Shielded

Standard AFM

Standard Motor, Turbo, and Manifold

Standard Injectors - and yes, I do know that I will need bigger injectors.

Car is making 210rwkw and 420 nm of torque. Goes very well. I've got a great tuner.

I want a 500hp Turbo to bolt straight onto the R33 manifold and dump, and want very little lag.

I was told a .63 exhaust housing will be good for that, but lacks top end if I am chasing 280rwkw plus.

I only want 250rwkw, but with lots of torque.

www.horsepowerinabox.com has this -

Garrett GT30 500hp ball bearing turbo

This is the smallest of the T3 style ball bearing turbo's that Garrett do. It has a T3 base flange and normally comes with a .82 external wastegated exhaust housing. As standard has a .70 compressor cover and Garrett dual ball bearing internals. Great for 2.5 and 3 litre 6 cyl road cars.

This unit can be supplied with a Nissan RB .63 Internally gated exhaust housing as a special order, providing a great bolt on upgrade... E-mail us about this. ** please allow 3-5 working days to manufacture**

Price:

$2,149.99

inc GST within Australia

has anyone used something like this, and if so, can you tell me what kind of RPM it starts boost, and hits 1 bar? Was the car drivable (I would assume so)

Mainly I want something that comes on fast and hard.

Let me know your thoughts.

Has anyone tried what HPIAB sell as a "GT28" or the Garrett GT25/40R turbo, or have any thoughts on them? I have been seriously thinking of getting one of those with a .86a/r turbine side with a T3 flange from ATP-Turbo in the US (US$1070) as it seems like a really good value for money (and not to mention cool looking) turbo which I figure would be good for my 250rwkw target with reasonable delivery.

I just spoke to the turbo dude in my home town here.

Says he can get me a GT30 for $1700 brand new, 500hp. Says if I get him a VG30 exhaust housing, he'll knock $500 off the price and put it on for me.

What size is a VG30? .63?

Is that referred to me or the GT30 question?  I've been searching on GT2540Rs and not been able to find anything :)

i was walking about the guy who started the thread... not the hi-jacker

a .63 will make 250rwkw... sure, i was refering to the GT30. 82 is the mix

BOOSTD can you slap your dyno graph up again or give a link cause i cant find it and wanna have a look at it.

what is the RWKW you can get out of a GT30 turbo???? i have a VG30 exhaust housing and would like his name.

guys, another good question.

Can the RB25 Hitachi Exhaust Housing be adapted to a Garret GT30 core, and if it can, can it be machined out to a .63 size?

What sizr do they machine it out to when they Hi-Flo them?

Shit, if I could get the Garret Compressor Housing, Core, and Exhaust turbine, whack on a HiFlo'd Hitachi Exhaust Housing, then I wouldn't need a dump or manifold.

If he machined out the Hatachi Exhaust manifold, I'd certainly get him to increase the internal waste gate hole.

Sound liek a good idea?

would that be a bad mismatch?

It doesn't work like that.

When you machine a housing to suit you only machine out the hole for the exhaust wheel.

Do a bit of googling on the process of highflowing and or machining exhaust housings. :)

I wonder if the .48 housing adapted to the GT30 is a bad idea..

Trying to make 250rwkw..

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
