Yes, Nissan did put out a few R31 Skyline GTS Twin cam turbo Nismo's (phew..)

The Nissan Skyline GTS NISMO Version:

1000 units were put on the market in commemoration of the 30th Skyline anniversary in February of 1987.

Formal name:"Sports coupe GTS twin cam two door Skyline 24V turbo NISMO" (!!)

There were 4 body colors: Dark blue # 111, Black # 532 (standard black is two-tone # 543), Crystal white # 326, and super-red # 526 and besides that, GTS emblems on the front grille were red and there were two tone special color in the interior, a steering wheel made by 'Italvolante' and a mono-form bucket seat (It was adopted for GTS-R seatbacks) are installed.

Aluminum colored side stripe and 'Hartge' badges (including air conditioning) was a dealer option though the price of the vehicle was 2,847,000 yen (There was no consumption tax at that time in Japan).

I spoke to my Uncle-in-law (in the car business here in Japan) and seems to think that the 'R32 Skyline GTS Nismo Version' came about because of weak R31 sales at the time, and even then the Nismo campaign was short lived. It wasn't until the GTS-R came along that Nissan got the desired sales/advertising it wanted.

**Edit: Here's some scant info I got from R31 Freek:

R31 Nismo: I don't know much at all because I've never seen one in person... though the tune might be done with Nismo parts. The Nismo instrument cluster has a speed meter which rumor has it that it reads to 200 km/h and over...

So one way to identify a Nismo R31 GTS Turbo would be the instrument cluster of course, also theres the obvious 'Nismo' sticker on the back of the car like this:

... but that would be easy to just slap on anyold R31 GTS-X or whatever.

***Edit: The car above has the factory optional 'Hartge pack' cosisting of bold aluminium colored stripe down both sides, Hartge badges and multi-spoke silver alloy wheels (Hartge).

Realistically (and I say this bearing in mind that I'll probably never, ever see a real Nismo R31), the Nismo parts used in the R31 Nismo Version would consist of the above mentioned instrument cluster, an exhaust, spark plugs, stiffer shocks and lower springs, maybe a slightly different ROM tune and different interior fabric etc. Nothing major - bearing in mind what Nissan did with the R32 GT-R Nismo - I'd say that in order to maintain the factory warranty they were restricted somewhat.

I just want to reiterate that hardly anyone has seen a Nismo R31 GTS Turbo here in Japan by the looks of it, so if one turns up at the auctions I would expect it to fetch over a million yen easily regardless of condition.

Heres a guy with an R31 GTS -Nismo:

From the exterior theres no real way of telling if it's legit or not, a quick Nissan FAST check will reveal all though. This guy is part of the 'ISLAND R31 Skyline Owners Club' and he's not the only one with a GTS - Nismo... link here: http://r31-skyline.web.infoseek.co.jp/repo...3,26/index2.htm
