Picked up a brand new set of R33 front rotors, cross slotted DBA Kangaroo paw discs. $50

already have a set up front, so will machine down and put on the rear :(

are you sure that will work, most rear rotors i have seen have a deeper offset than fronts to accomodate the handbrake shoes.

Aswell as a bigger hub to accomodate the drum for the handbrake shoes.

Probably better off machining a stock rotor down so the hub becomes a hat and run 2 pieces rotors.. :(

the R33 caplipers have a different sized bolts that bolt them to the hub, the S2 stagea ones are too big for the R33 brakes, from memory the stagea ones are M14 and the R33 M12.

to bolt the R33 GTST calipers to the S2 stagea hub you'll need to get some longer bolts that suit the R33 calipers, as the R33 bolts aren't long enough to get through the thicker stagea caliper mounting plate on the hub. you'll also need some sort of bush to help locate the M12 bolt in a 14mm hole, i am going to turn up a bush on the lathe when i finally get around to doing it, but i've heard of someone using a small piece of copper pipe.

i haven't looked into the rotor side of things yet, one thing i can tell you is the stagea rotor cant be used with the R33 calipers. i have some R33 GTST calipers in the garage and had a look one day at what was needed to put them on, i also have a S2 RS four V. and thinking of it now the only thing i didn't check was to see if the brake line fittings were compatible.

mods could you please sticky this part at the start of the thread so s2 owners know whats involved with upgrading their brakes to 33 calipers?

cheers. Bradd

i'll be doing this shortly with a set of R33 GTS-T brakes (front and rear) .. the main reason why i'll be doing it is not only to decrease brake fade but more so for cosmetic looks. the look of the skyline brakes are heaps better than the standard stagea ones. but thats just me.. :D

will the front set fit a s2 stagea with R33 GTS-T Front calipers without the bung removed??

if so then the full set pictured should fit ( there for a R32 gtr), i believe the standard R32 gtr brakes are the same as the R33 GTS-T

Brake Pads.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/STAGEA-WGNC34-TURBO...p3286.m20.l1116

P.S thats for a full set... Front and Rear.

I bought some of these off ebay, only paid $200 delivered though. putting them on next week

Front pads - Hitachi HP63H FF

The guys with S2's haven't found a Bendix equivalent yet, but I am sure they will post it up as soon as they do.

**edit by mods** this information is not correct as the offset is wrong for S2 stagea

Front Disc Rotors - DBA 4963 (R33 GTST) modified by machining down the OD by 6mm, all of the other dimensions are the same. Unlike the Series 1, this is very minor machining, I would not expect any problems with this, we do it all the time on the race car rotors.

DBA have these in stock currently

**/edit**

ok... to replace standard s2 front rotors andpads i shall order these yea? and just get the rotors machined down 6mm?

DONT BUY R33 ROTORS!!! READ THE WARNING!!! DIFFERENT OFFSET!!!

GENUINE ONLY OR EX JAPAN!!!

READ BACK A FEW PAGES AND YOU'LL FIND PEOPLE HAVE R33 ROTORS MACHINED DOWN AS PAPER WEIGHTS OR DOOR STOPS!!!

MODS=We need this thread cleaned!!!

New sticky on stagea brakes please, 20 pages of useless/misleading crap!

S2 Guys with r33 rotors machined down and using as door stops, s14/r32/z32 rotor is 280mm O.D

just machine a bit more and resell as r32/s14 rotors!

any M35 boys thinking of brake upgrades?

the M35 brakes are terrible too undersized

The brakes actually aren't that bad if you use a good pad.

I am using QFM A1RM at the moment. Great price & performance. No brake dust (which is a must for me) and they seem to wear well.

Talk to Jetpilot1986 about them.

Otherwise, if you have the money, get the Z33/V35 Brembos. They bolt straight up.

I believe that Andy65b and Jetwreck have put R33 brakes on their M35's... Still waiting for a thread on it...

I first upgraded to Hawke pads in the standard brakes which was a good improvements. And no dust.

Then upgraded to R32 GTR calipers and slotted rotors with Bendix Ultimate pads. Much more bite in the brakes now but not tested for fade after series of heavy braking.

It is a fairly easy upgrade with only minor modifications required.

  • remove dust cover behind caliper. (could be trimmed if you want to spend more time)
  • Grind back the bottom of one bracket about 3mm for clearance of the rotor

Other than that it is the same as doing on any other Stagea.

Cheers

Andy

I just did mine too. Had to change the wheels to accommodate the 4 pots but kept to 17 inch rims. Calipers and rotors came off a TT. Wheels maybe the r34 look like my old newer ones but more rounded. Brakes sweeter now. I think V35 infiniti in US was recalled over its brakes.

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
