RB 30 has 2 x 2mm in block, rb26 has 1 x 2mm at balancer end and a pin prick size one at crank end.

Have put 1.5 in at balancer end on rb30 ( going to have 26 head on her) what size would be best at other end---- Blank , 1mm 1.5 or put standard 2mm in?

For your oppinion.

Dave after I taked to you about this i looked at my spare rb30 and noticed that you are right they are 2mm, however on my good engine the one I was basing my opinion on the oil feeds are only 1.2mm??? Gary have you ever seen the rb30 with the smaller oil feeds, I had a look at a few others today and they are all bigger (2mm), and I know I didnt change them so this is really weird!!!! Not complaining just trying to work out why so if it is a production thing I will look fo more motors or this model...

My RB30's oil restrictors were exactly 2 x 1.8mm.

The RB20DET's were exactly 2 x 2.4mm.

I took a pic after an oil change today.. On idle it looks like there's plenty of oil on the cam lobe. :rofl:

I poured the 4.5ltrs in to the motor as quickly as the 5ltr container would allow. It didn't over flow and drained in to the sump super quick.

Much quicker than the rb20det used to as the rb20det would to overflow if I poored oil in too quickly.

Daniel , yeh that does seem a little un unusual!

The RB25DDET cylinder head has 3 oil feeds, one for the VVT and the 2 others as found on all RB's. For the R32 RB25DE cylinder head on the RB30 bottom end, I used one feed (the rear one) and blocked off the front one. In ~5 years it has never put any meaningfull oil in the cacth can and the cams are in perfect condition.

So your recommendations for the RB 26 head on a rb 30 bottom end , with a 1.5 oil restricor on the front is what with the second one towards the fly wheel ?

slightly off topic, but I'm curious to know if there is some way of restricting the flow of oil to the head and consequently out of the engine down to the catch can! as the track has shown the G loading slide it out just nicely!!!

I was thinking to place some type of element (foam?) in the pipe to the can to stop the majority of this....

I don't want to have to take the head off :)

no idea why this now has me with a RB25!!! :)

did a cylinder leakage test today and all cylinders came up less then 10% leakage so looks like im going to have to remove the head off and block off one of the oil feeds.

i am running an external oil feed to the vct

one thing i dont understand is why doesnt this happen with the rb25, i believe they have larger oil feeds then the rb30 and yet it never had any problems with filling the catch tank in one drag run.

Sorry to hijack, but are these restrictors readily available or are they only availible at Nissan dealers. Are they easy to get out?

Cost you about $4.00 each from a nissan dealer , 1.5 mm are available from tommie, .

If you are putting in a smaller restrictor then all you have to do is knok the larger one in and then install the smaller one . Other way round , drill out , much softer than the block , be care full though then use an easy out and remove.

Thanks exXU1, i'm having some blowby issues and as soon as i rule out rings as the problem, i think the head will come off and smaller restrictors put in.

How do i go about blocking one off?

Can order blank from nissan , takes about 2 weeks ex japan ,$6.00.

I used a pencil magnet at drilling face and and one in the oil hole in block , when finished use air line to blow up from side block port up thru the area just drilled , lower magnet down the gallery just in case, happy , insert restrictor.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways. 
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.

    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
