i reckon you could do it.

the real question is what did you buy you bastard? i'm guessing 18X10 inch Nismo LM GT4s? or GTMAG? am i close.

Close. I'm still after some LMGT4's but im wanting those in 18x9.5. You'll see in a couple of weeks.

The reason I want to do it is I already have some brand new bridgestones lying around which were on my car when I imported it and want to use them. Otherwise I guess I could just sell them and buy some new rubber but these are quality tyres...

I think you will get understeering issues if they fit on.  I have 225's on 8" 18's which understeers but 225 on 7.5" 17's had no problems.

I don't know why.

I think it would've normally been ok but the reason you felt different handling is probably in the profile of the tyres. You wouldve had more sidewall in the 17's.

Is it physically possible to stretch 245 tyres over some 10 inch wide wheels?

I may have to find this out unless I can trade in my brand new bridgestones for some wider rubber somewhere...

It is definately possible, I bought some 18x10" rims a while ago and they came from Japan with a 225 tyre stretched over them. So a 245 should be a piece of piss to do (compared to a 225 that is)

As a follow up to this. I have just installed my Bridgestone RE01 245/50R18 tyres onto my Nismo LMGT3 18x10JJ wheels and my advice to anyone planning something similar is to not bother.

The tyres are significantly stretched to the point where im going to replace them ASAP with some 275 or wider tyres. Sure they physically are able to go onto the rim and hold air but they:

1) do not look good - 4 x stretched tyres on a GTR is a bad look (except for the old school GTRs)

2) will not perform 100%

im sure i'll discover more problems after theyre actually on the car, in fact i might not even bother fitting them.

As a side note i now have almost brand new 245/40R18 Bridgestone RE01 tyres for sale x 4! PM me!!!

275X35X18 are the perfect fit but 265x35x18 are just as good , i had them on 10" rims (265) before and they are good .

I wouldn't go any wider than 275 if i was you though .

What brand of tyres are you looking at ?

I was thinking Falken for the $$$ factor - unless I can sell the Bridgestones and then i might get something a bit pricier. Let me know if you have any deals going for 275/35R18 tyres or advice on a street/occasional track day tyre.

I could always stick these RE01's on my stock rims as they are good fit for the std 18x9 wheels and then use those for track wheels as the RE01 are pretty grippy.

    • Hi GTSBoy, Excuse my ignorance but what does a "Bad" Knee point mean ?
    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
