Hey guys,

I did a search but couldnt find much, and was wondering is there any possible way without spending to much money making a car run richer? is there a controller i can buy so i can make it run richer with the flick of a switch? if so, where can i get these from, and how much are they usually if they even exist. :)

Cheers

Dayne

I'm intrigued too, why do you want to make it run richer?

I guess an easy and free way is to junk the O2 sensor. The engine will sense this and run richer by default to protect itself. This will ruin your fuel economy though, as if R33's arent thirsty enough already.

I've never tried this so correct me if I'm wrong anyone

Agree... just ditch the O2 sensor. My O2 sensor is stuffed and I am running super rich, getting 220-300Ks per tank. Occasionally hear popping sound from exhaust from unburnt fuel being ignited and soot all over the rear bar.

I found a correlation between car running rich and the owner running poor... from increasing petrol price

im assuming u want to run nitrous?

Spot on mate! I've found a kit by NOS and it only requires you to make your car run a little richer. Thats why i was curious to how to do it, it looks like an apexi safc is the best way to go, however my car does run fairly rich as it is (already makes nice flames).

I'd say the skyline 'might' run rich enough to take the nitrous kit as it is, but i think it might be best to have a controller anyway.

Cheers for the help those who actually suggested some good ideas.

sounds like a good idea, but it would be better to get it tuned for the nitrous on a dyno. Itll be a hell of a lot safer.

I agree 350%!!!!

I wouldn't run Nitrous without an ECU that can be tuned to run it properly. You'll grenade the engine in no time.

contact 2rismo on the forum, he runs Nitrous in his R33 GTS-t on the drag strip

from reading the diy intrusctions from NOS, they reccoemnd retarding the timing a few degees to avoid detonation. so, youll need a circuit that richen your mixture while retarding your timing?

dunno, never used nitrous. youd be better off talking to a pro.

    • So..... it's going to be a heater hose or other coolant hose at the rear of the head/plenum. Or it's going to be one of the welch plugs on the back of the motor, which is a motor out thing to fix.
    • The oil pressure sensor for logging, does it happen to be the one that was slowly breaking out of the oil block? If it is,I would be ignoring your logs. You had a leak at the sensor which would mean it can't read accurately. It's a small hole at the sensor, and you had a small hole just before it, meaning you could have lost significant pressure reading.   As for brakes, if it's just fluid getting old, you won't necessarily end up with air sitting in the line. Bleed a shit tonne of fluid through so you effectively replace it and go again. Oh and, pay close attention to the pressure gauge while on track!
    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
    • Nice, looks great. Nice work getting the factory parts also. Never know when you'll need them.
    • Thanks @jtha7 I will have a look around tomorrow but it is a prick of a spot. These are some photos i tried taking
