Munched my First Clubsport

Recommended Posts

VT Clubsports are hard to pick because they came with two types of engines.

VT Series 1 - HEC 5.0L V8 with 195kw: 15 second car

VT Series 2 - Gen3 5.7L V8 with 250kw: Low 14 high 13 second car

The only visual differece is the badges and the VT1 has orange indicators the VT2 has clear (although alot of VT1 owners retrofit the badges and indicators from series 2 so people think they have a Gen 3!). Still most moded Skylines should beat any stock Clubsport, they are a very heavy car. With a few decent bolt ons you can get them running low 13s, with head and cam work mid to low 12s are achieveable. Not to bad but probably still get munched by a modded GTR any day of the week.

They're probably trying to beat the next set of lights so they don't have to look at you :P

Don't you normally show you've won by taking their lane? (and of course, indicating)

Yeah but then you could argue the age old point ..... when does a drag end ... speed limit? till the road runs out? till your car doesnt go any faster?

Thanks Whatsisname :P

This is a pretty cool forum, I used to post on what I think was the old forum to this one? It was a NZ based forum with a regional section for Aus. Look foward to keeping up with Skyline news! I know plenty of people with them and think they are awesome cars! If I hadnt have bought a brand new car I would be driving an R33 right now!

Cheers :D

it ends when the person in front decides not to go any faster and cant be bothered with it anymore!:(

I munched a Ford Falcon GT (no idea what model but it was very nicely worked looking at a website it looks like an XY).

Cruising on the Hume Hwy back from the summernats just casually sitting on 100km/h with traffic infront and behind.

Falcon cruises up beside, windows down 4 x 25yr oldish guys all looking at me and talking amongst themselves. I've got my windows up a/c on 20c and sitting low just relaxing because of the 2.5hr drive.

The drive gave afew revs at me and i looked over and just gave a smile then continue driving for about 10sec, then they gave another rev (still at 100km/h). I thought ok only way to shut up this guy is to give him a run so i sneakily leaned over and thru it back in 4th (still on stock boost) and then just flatted it. He launched with me and i pulled approx 2 car lengths on him by the time i hit the speed limiter. I merged over infront of him to overtake other cars while backing off. By the time i slowed back down to approx 130km i noticed a cop reversing into position in the middle island part getting ready to setup.

I thanked my lucky stars (with a grin on my face) and the Falcon GT guys left me alone for the remaining 1hr highway journey.

I'm guessing you're a fellow LS1.com.au member?

The way I see it the race is over once you reach the next red lights if they arent to far away....or if you are clearly the faster car and can't be bothered proving it anymore so u just put on ur hazards to "tease" the other bloke a bit...Also when u go to the street runs i've notcied they mainly put on the hazards when its a tight race because all of the crowd is down on the other end of the quarter mile!!! If you win by heaps its not really needed unless u wanna tease the loser!!

when ur at the end of 2nd and the other car isnt gaining on you, then the race is over...if both cars are neck to neck..then 3rd gear would put u at 400m...basically u'll know when u've won or lost :D

yeah i agree ... i always never fully floor it unless i have to, cause u know the feel of your car and u know what it can do ... for me i will only speed up far enough so i know if i've won or lost ... which is usually by 3rd gear ... but usually i wouldn't go past 80kmph ... cause it starts to get really dangerous and i already know who's won or lost ...

Yep I recall seeing you name around a few forums, what is done to you skyline? Are you the guy with 300rwkw!?

Cheers

My car has all the usual bolt-on mods including a bigger turbo, but not enough for 300rwkw! I'll get there eventually though. See my sig'. There's a few GTS25t's owners here with 300+rwkw.

I had some pecker in a silver Rex cruising beside me on liverpool road a couple of months back doing the zoooom psssh zoooom pssh thing with his BOV. He issued the challenge at the lights just before the freeway (I was going back to Canberra)....so what could I do ?????....He lost !.....Go the Skyline's !!!!

Had a run with a 911 Carrera couple of weeks ago.

We had just left Sandown after a Porsche Club track day when this 911 came rushing up behind me and started doing the whole tyre warming exercise to tell me I was going to slow. We came out onto Springvale Rd and they blasted past me making some comment on Jap cars (didn't catch it all).

So that was it, I tucked in behind and followed them onto the merging lane onto Princes Hwy. I was right on him so he knew, and once he saw the traffic was clear, he was off in a cloud of smoke, as was I. I chased him to 90 where I pulled to the right lane and slowly passed him (at full noise). By 190, Mr Sky was a good 3 car lengths ahead. I backed off and they went shooting past.

We caught up at the next set of lights and I wound the window to say g'day but niether the driver nor his mate would even give me a look. My wife hates me doing that and I generally don't, but she loved outsprinting a porsche. As long as I never do it again.

Skyline...............!!

    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again?
