Hi All

Does anyone know how to set this up? i have installed the apexi avcr to my r33 skyline gts-t, i cant seem to get it right. I set it up to boost 1 bar & duty 45%. however its not boosting to 1bar at all...i notice on the boost gauge, it only goes up to 9psi.

1 bar =14psi isnt?but how come it only goes up to 9psi? have i dont anything wrong? its all hooked up properly, everythings working in the avcr, just not boosting properly.. i even preferred the turbosmart manual boost control... anyway any help would be much appreciate. Also any sydney siders who is willing to help me set this up? i am located in west of sydney.

Thanks all :)

Have you tried to raise your duty cycle? According to what I've read, if the actual boost is lower than the desired boost, you should raise your duty cycle in small increments (like 1% at a time) until you get the desired result. By the way, what did you set the boost at in Kg/cm2? If you want 14psi, this will equal 13.530Kg/cm2, so you need to set your boost on the AVCR to 0.95. I'm just about to install an AVCR in my R33 GTST so I'll see how I go with it.

"Mmmm, unexplained bacon."

from the screen, it currently shows 1.0kg/cm2 boost & 45% duty. So you're saying to put the setting to 13.530Kg/cm2, this will equal to 14psi??? or put it as .90kg/cm2 of boost??? Also the rpm is set to 3000.

Let me know how you go with your settings. Anyone else knows about the settings of avcr?? help pls

I have an english manual also, but it doesn't really tell you anything at all! I've just set mine up, got it set to 0.70Kg/cm2 and at 30% duty (taking it very easy for now just to make sure I've installed everything right!). The website that I looked at for my settings was http://www.turbosaturns.net/articles/AVC-R.htm. The table they have in there states that you should set your boost to 0.95Kg/cm2 (on the screen where you set up your boost duty) to get 14 psi. I don't know much about the rpm settings yet though. Just remember to make small changes at a time when altering the boost duty!

Is that a mechanical boost gauge? What is the boost reading on the AVC-R?

Turn the thing off and see what the AVC-R reads in the way of boost. If you then turn it to Seting A and 1.0bar with 45 duty and it still runs the same boost then im guessing thre may be something wrong wth the install

Thanks for the site MacGuyver :) I'll print it out & try to fiddle with it once more. How well did ur avcr performed? boosting alright?

Roy- I dont know what you meant by mechanical boost gauge, but i dont think i can turn it on or off. Its sitting under the pillar on the driver side, i guess its a stockies boost gauge.

Everything are hooked up properly, the wires & engine wise, otherwise the revs, boost gauge, speed, will not show working on the screen of the avcr.

I tested to see if all are working on the screen, seems fine no probs.

I even unplugged the stock solenoid to see if thats the prob. Last night i plugged the stock solenoid & place back my old single stage turbosmart boost controller, seems fine, boosted up to 12psi, thats ok, but weird it aint working for avcr...i think i wanna sell this if its not working for me...

thanks for the input guys! much appreciated :)

anymore ideas what could the problem be :D

I'm still running my AVCR at safe levels until I can find some time this weekend to give my car 'a few herbs' (i.e. a thrash) and set it up correctly. I can't think of why you are only getting a max of 9psi out of it though, but maybe you should get a tuner's opinion first before deciding to sell it. My brother installed an AVCR in his '95 Supra last month and his unit is holding 14psi easily. Maybe the unit has 'self learnt' something and isn't recognising some of your changes? Was the unit brand new or second hand? Cause if it was second hand the previous owner's settings might still be in effect and you should reset the unit before installing it. To re-set the unit go into the 'etc' menu and say 'initialise all'. Hope this helps!

Have a look at th esolenoid valve and make sure you ahve connected the correct ports, Basically there are 3, and you need to configure the ports differently between external and internal wastegate.

Also, double check the hoses are correct and the the lenghts as short as possible and the hose diameters are correct. (They wont be the problem, but once sorted will help the thing perform optimally)

Thanks MacGuyver & Roy :D

I will give this one another go :D yeh second hand bro, must have been set to previous owners settings...duh! {:P}

I have printed the avcr documentation from apexi site & the site you gave MacGuyver, I guess i'll be busy reading all these pages lol, let me know how ur thrashing went & if the boost you set it up to is working well.

Thanks again & i shall let you know if theres any changes. *\O/*

cheers!

hay bro crank you duty cycle up to 60 percent and see how that goes. it took me a week to tune my high and low boost settings. 60 percent wont be right but it will get you close. soon as you get with .05 of a bar or so it goes into self learn.

PM me if you have any further queries.

Good luck,

Boz

There should be an option in settings that lets you clear all settings n start fresh. The higher the duty cycle the more it will over shoot ur boost boost setting and the reverse if its lower, it should undershoot n then creep up. Mines set to .9 and 50% duty so it hits bout 1bar n drops back. Not sure if this is any help.

    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment.
    • I was able to get some underside photos while the car was on the ramp The suspension is all Altezza/IS200/IS300 so getting part's will hopefully be less of a headache
