Hi,

When's the next gathering of ACT Skylines? I heard that the National Museum is the usual site? Would u be opposed to a non-skyline driver rocking up to learn a few things?

I joined this forum months ago and made a coupla posts but got distracted by that funny little thing called life.. Now the bug is biting me again and I'm planning on buying a Skyline early in the new year. I'm gonna be reading/looking at/exposing myself to whatever and whoever I can (no no! not like that :P ) to learn as much as I can. Then, unless I find something I like locally, I'm gonna make a few trips to Sydney to see the dealers. I'll be taking a mate of mine who put a Soarer engine in a Cressida, as he's reasonably cluey about cars. I'm not a complete dunce... but not the most knowledgeable about turbos n stuff.

Anyway, I want a Series 2 R33 GTS-T, budget will be about 20K maximum. I've seen a bunch of R33s for 16-19K, but not sure if they are S1 or S2. Also hoping to get one reasonably close to stock, so I know exactly what I'm starting with, as the car I currently drive ('96 Civic CXi) , several places have told me it looks like it used to be turbo'd.. anyway long story short. Stock or stock with rim and exhaust and CAI would be ok. But nothing much past that hopefully. Not that it matters, but I want a black one ;) Failing that white or blue. Grey is good but there's too many in canberra.

Another thing I'm doing is compiling a list of differences between S1 and S2, and looking for photos or the engine bays for each, and what to look for to be SURE what the cars are when I go look at them. Cos I'm sure there's dealers that would put an S2 price on what's really an S1 car. The main reason I'm keen to go to Sydney is A) much much more choice (as many cars at once dealer as there is in ALL of Canberra) and B) (very minor reason) I'll get to drive it back on Canberra. :P

I have budgeted for 2K insurance (altho JCI online gave me a 1700 quote), 680 for rego, 1K for unforeseen '5H1T happens' (e.g. NSW > ACT compliance screwups). So 16-19 for the car about 3.5-4K on top (hopefully). I think that's a reasonable estimate.

There's a white Skyline down the street from me but I don't know them.. it's a Northside suburb with a lot of old folks homes. If u read this and it's u, maybe I could walk down the street and check it out?

So yeah anyway, whens the next gathering? I want to see some of these beasts in the flesh :O

Nice to see you on here, and you have your head well around the Skyline buying process. Usual spot is the National Museum on Friday nights at about 9pm and also at the Jerrabombra Pub on Tuesday nights(even though I've been a member for a while, I still haven't got out on either of these nights, but will be there on Friday night.)

You have budgeted well for an R33, with most selling within your set budget, and also with money set aside for insurance etc.

Sydney and Melbourne have alot more lines for sale, but just make sure you get it thoroughly checked out before you purchase it. There is a list on these forums that would be handy to print out, listing all the typical things to check in detail.

The R33 owners will be able to inform you of all the differences between Series 1 and 2, the most noticably being the front bar change (There is also a thread on these differences on these forums also :P)

I also do alot more reading than posting on here, it is an endless resource for all your Skyline needs.

Look forward to meeting you and helping you out if you need anymore help/advice.

BTW, I own a maroon 1992 Series 2 R32 Gts-t with a big front mount and 18's.

Cheers,

Nath

Rincewind - If your keen on a 33 I do know of a very good one up for sale ATM in Canberra. It is good and the price your looking for you'd get change. It is close to stock.

Well worth a looksee!

Call me on 0409 153 330 and I can hook you up with the owner.

HAHAHA I'm constantly amazed how small the world is. Yes my mate is Farran :D Although.. this IS Canberra.. Anyway, he once spoke of a mate of his scaring the crap out of him going up Mount Ainslie in his skyline .. I wonder if that was maybe you!!

I've smsed and PMed you Sinista32! Thanks guys.

Unfortunately I have plans this friday (tomorrow) nite :P but should be able to make the next one. Is this meeting regular? Or maybe 3 or 4 ppl show up just once a month? Anyone else got a Skyline for sale or coming up for sale in the ACT the next coupla months?

I was about to say i'll have a skyline for sale very shortly, but it's a S1, a few more mods than you'd like (FMIC, Bodykit, Suspension) and is gunmetal grey. you'll be able to find what you're looking for very easily though, there's as many R33's in this town as their is Public servants.

My main drive is a Stagea though, not the Skyline. hope to see you on a Friday night

Leshy

just be careful when buying a car from sydney. i did, and even though im extremely happy with my car, there are some dodgy buggers up there.

have a look at the for sale section for "whole cars" on the site here, they have some great cars there, im sure you'll find something you like. (i wish i did that before i bought mine, ah well....)

the main difference between a S1 and an S2 is the front bar, head lights, rear wing (can always be changed...) and bonnet? (im not sure bout the last one...)

the museum is a weekly thing, someone will be there, im sure..... (nik!!!) :)

Hey Mate welcome to the forum!

In my opinion, you should get a 32 GTR, if you cant afford that get a 32 GTST and spend some mulla on it and make it the way you like it.....

Do some of this reasearch you are doing on how many 33 owners (new to skylines) have had intimate experiances with some sort of pole...

My reasoning:

- Driving a 32 GTST is like...... Having sex with a cute blonde!

- Driving a 32 GTR is like...... Having sex with Britney her self!

- Driving a 33 GTST is like...... Having sex with a Fat Chick (shore its sex but it leaves a bad taste in your mouth) and you'll likely hit a pole.

- Driving a 33 GTR is like...... Having sex with Britney and her sister!

- Driving a 34 GTST is like...... Having sex with 2 cute blondes!

- Driving a 34 GTR is like...... Having sex with every hot chick you can think of, all at once!

I may be a little bias tho.... heheheh jk's

*Puts helmet on*

Peace out people!!!!!

:P

I've been to that link about S1 vs S2. There's only about 5 solid facts on that page, and that's going with a "majority vote" !

I just found some more R33s on Drive.com. might check em out this weekend.

I don't like the look of the R32s

id deffinetly say go a S2, once you've been around S1's and S2's you'll see that the series 2 is a much more classy and modern look. also from my experiance, with a few exceptions, series ones tend to be alot more didgy and beat up than series 2's

then again, if you can find a nice series one thats tastefully modified and at a good price and condition (frinky u lucky buggfer you) then what more can you want

And also frinkmeister. even though im a postwhore, i can always make a intelligent post about the things i used to be obsessed (still am) with

lol u guys are funny :P

Yeah I'm gonna try to stay S2. Anyone know anything about Fierce Motorsports? I'd never heard of them.. just EVO and Fast and Furious.

Has anyone dealt with Japlink in Sydney? www.japlink.com.au cos they have what looks like an absolute ASS LOAD of S2 R33's. Looks like it's worth goin up and spending a whole day there if they have decent service.

BTW, this is gonna sound weird, but: the 3 skylines I've test driven now, they all seemed to have huge backward and forward body roll on take offs. I drive a civic which (to me) feels like it's on rails (ignoring the understeer), but these skylines felt rather doughy and uninvolved by comparison simply cos of the roll. Is this just because A) I'm not pushing the test cars cos I don't wanna get my ass kicked) and B) I'm just used to a small buzz box now that doesn't have enough power to even break traction from a standing start or push me into my seat?

    • Apologies for the long post, but needed somewhere to lay out the entire timeline of events and actions taken:   I've got an 89 GTR with a R34 RB in it. It's been running great all year, driven probably 500KM in the last month. It's not my daily driver, just a weekend fun car.    Build info: R34 RB26 - HKS 2.7 stroker kit, HKS adjustable cam gears, HKS turbo upgrades, Trust intercooler, R34 factory DENSO 440cc injectors, JUN chipped/tuned R32 ECU. All of this work was performed in Japan back in 2019.    Thursday 10/2/25 - It's a nice day and decided I'll drive it to work, I start it up in the garage and I notice it took a few extra cranks and sounded a bit funny. I figure maybe it was just because it was a pretty chilly morning. I pull it out into the driveway to warm up a bit before leaving. As I leave the driveway, it feels very off and sounds like a misfire. I pull it back in the garage to deal with after work and take the daily to work. I was able to diagnose it as a cylinder 5 misfire with the old spark plug test (unplugging each plug until a sound change with the engine running). I take off the whole ignition system, ignitor, plugs, spark. *Important note, it is still on the R32 ignition system with the separate ignitor system. I test each system with a multi-meter and nothing presents as a smoking gun. I put it all back together and it starts up no issue. I go ahead and order the PRP R35 ignition conversion kit. It should arrive today (10/13/25)   Friday 10/3/25 - Another nice day, car starts up great and drives great all day. Very pleased that everything seems to be OK   Sunday 10/5/25 - Decided I'll take it to play some golf, load up and drive to the course about 25 minutes away. Drives wonderful the whole way there, I pull in the parking lot and the engine completely comes to a stop. I do not recall if it sputtered at all, but just remember all of the sudden the engine was off. I roll it into a parking spot, try to crank it back on and nothing.  It'll crank and crank and not even try to start. End up getting it towed back to my house and push it up into the garage.    Items I have checked: Fuel in the tank Fuel Pump relay Fuel pump fuse  Spark Plugs & gap Coil packs Ignitor    I know the cylinders are getting fuel as the plugs smell like fuel after a start attempt. I tried spraying starter fluid into the manifold and cranking and not even a sputter.    I decided to do the live CAS test (removing the the CAS, ignition on and spinning the CAS stalk to see if the injectors pulse and spark is active). All of the injectors were pulsing and I have spark at the plug. The half-moon end of the CAS did seem very loose, I'm not sure how much play is supposed to be there, but it was more than I expected. There was no in/out play of the shaft, just the tip end that is pinned on had quite a bit of play.    CAS Play video   When I put the CAS back in, I stupidly did not re-time the engine. I know I need to do that tonight, however, I do not think it will start given it seemingly was not the issue. My plan is to do the PRP R35 coil kit and retime the engine at the same time.    I plan on ordering the Haltech Nexus Plug-in ECU once they are available again, but ideally would like to get this sorted before firing the parts cannon at it and potentially adding more variables.    Anything glaring that I am missing here, I'm a bit at a loss?
    • Get it on a dyno. Get something logging Consult. Run it up and find out what is causing it.
    • Looking for a plenum for rb25 de+t neo  Not looking to push much power maybe 300kw at the wheels, is there much difference in flow for Freddy “Greddy style” compared to original Greddy or options like Proflow or Otaku garage?    I won’t be porting the de Neo head for now as I think it’ll be fine 280-300rwkw but appreciate the help and any experiences anyone has between them and any advice.
