The difference in premiums is extreme.

Im with RAC insured mine for 26k and it costs me $850 per year.

Thats with 55% no-claim and an extra discount for a decent alarm system. Im also 29 which makes a difference.

No way would I be paying more than 1k per year.

You could give Silvalake Financial Services Group a call. They're an insurance broker that have insured my last two GT-R's. My first was costing about $1500-$1600 for about $45K coverage. My current one is $1080 for $26K. I am over 30 though so that helps, but have found them to be cheaper of famous by a coupla hungy on the last quote. Speak to Tammy at Silvalake and she'll take care of you:

Ste 7/ 1297 Hay St

Perth 6000

Tel (08) 9481 3855

Fax (08) 9481 3866

Cheers

Brendan

BTW, they are underwritten by SGIO.

I gave them a call, TAMMMAAAAY said it'd be $2800/year with SGIO :)

...interesting... as calling sgio just a few months ago they said "bah, import, go away!"

You'll find that brokers have a different set of criteria than the retail area of the insurance company.

And agree with the shop around theory. Don't waste your time with the bigger companies as majority (with the exception of Western QBE by the sounds of it) have a no imports policy nowadays.

Cheers

Brendan

Yes, if you don't currently have an existing poilicy with them then most insurance companies will just say go away. Brokers get some special rules applied to them, and they charge you for it. That's not cheap either way you look at it, I hope I never have to make a claim and loose my currently cheap policy.

I tried a few places but being an import makes it a bit hard plus my age meant i could only find 2 or 3 companies willing 2 insure me and this was the best offer

I was desperate so i took it maybe when it is up ill try and look again 4 sumthin beta!

Rang HBF today as I'm a private heath member and I got $780/year for a 25 year old (no accident history) with a 55% (maximum ncb with RAC) ncb. cars insured for $25k, basic excess of $200 and a $250 age excess for under being under 27. Pretty damn good if you ask me :)

we are also HBF heath members, so its a little cheaper. Dave's is more than likely cheaper as he's older than me. just call them up on their std line and follow the prompts to car insurance... I'd do it soon I heard a rumor they are going to review pricing.

Well it looks like HBF are giving out pretty good prices, so everyone should review there current policy, might save a few hundred a year. I hope that with the new RAW's legisaltion coming into place and the ISO accreditation system that the insurance companies will be more inclined to provide cheaper coverage.

HAWKE,

THat was a good point about the alarm, well an approved alarm in any case.

I insured mine r33 with RAC, i'm 26 and they originally quoted me $950.00, i went and got an alarm installed and rac reduced it to $810.00 a yr. I was stoked.

GIO didn't want to know me...

I have decided that if you are under 21, own an import and turbo car, live in Western Aus,  you have absolutely no chance of finding insurance. If you do, it is over $3300!!!!!!!!

be glad if u lived in the eastern states u'd be looking at $4000-5000

    • Yes, just without the annoying use of the word hybrid. We stopped using that term 20 years ago when we realised it meant different things to different people. Even "highflow" can represent more than one way of achieving the goal of getting more flow out of a turbo. But at least it says what it does on the box.
    • OH, when they say "solid buckets", I always interpeted that as "shimless". (Which is not the same as the "shimness word I invented above to represent the same idea that the buckets act as shims also!!). Still the same problem though. So it appears that buying a "kit" from Tomei is a two step process. Makes sense. Doesn't make sense in the context of a "kit" though.
