Australia has very little fog?

Have you ever been awake before 6:00am?    ;)

awake before 6am... very rarely! :)

but still, it's not before 6am i see cars with the foggys on.

people do it to be noticed, not for any real purpose. its much like having neons...

Farrrk... people who use fog lights when its sunny, just dark (not raining or foggy) really gives me the shit. It's mainly all the SS and XR drivers, they have them on all the time like they are showing it off like its an exclusive feature. Big deal you have fog lights, does leaving them on enlarge your penis? <_<

But what pisses me off even more are Hyundai drivers with their blinding red rear fog light! :P

FFS!! Why do you turn it on, this isnt europe, do you think other drivers won't be able to spot your car? Seriously we don't need a blinding light to spot your damn ugly peice of metal on wheels in front of us, we already vomit at the slightest glimpse of your Hyundai kilometres away! -_-

I drive with my fog lights on when im on the highway (not round town) S2 R33 for the same reason most motorbikes have their headlight hard wired in (e.g. on all of the time) it makes you easier to see!!!!so someone doesnt try to overtake and run into me head on... i dont see the problem!!!!

ive noticed when im driving on the road people merge stright at me, drive out of streets right in front of me etc. i think its coz my cars small... i dont know... but i put my foggies on when the sun hits people in the eyes and when theres school mums picking up there kids coz there the worst drivers! i dont do it to be cool i do it because ill do anything to avoid being in a crash.

I use mine all the time i have my normal headlights on, which is basically whenever im not wearing my sunnies....

And im sure there is a difference between FOG and DRIVING lights.

FOG lights are yellow and can only be used in foggy conditions.

DRIVING lights are normal coloured (white) and can be used ALL THE TIME. (just like normal headlights)

Ive never seen a skyline with yellow fog lights...

Agreed about the hyundai fog light at the back.. but theres nothing more annoying than spankers with 6 friggin lights at the front.

And blinding people with badly adjusted fog and/or driving lights is probably going to end up causing an accident, not avoiding one.

Front fog lights are so 1998.....

I remember wanting them when I was younger and more foolish, and only sports cars had them standard.

I got over them, but now every man and his Falcodore has them and likes to run them.

But yeah, I'd agree that the rear fog light is a lot more annoying. Whether its the chariot of the photon brigade (the Excel) or people driving 3 Series BMWs, its blinding at dusk or at night when these people turn their stupidly bright lights on when there's perfect visibility.

Sometimes I just really want to smash those lights in, and then ask the driver where the fog is exactly. I'm not condoning vandalism towards other people's cars.......but sometimes they just ask for it.

i think motorbikes come standard with the light switching on when ever the bike is running.....

People on motorbikes put their lights on to help people see them. As most riders are killed by idiots in cars who don't see them. My mate has his lights on 24/7 for this reason.

Some fog lights are ok to use to help other cars see you but usually only in bad weather. They are illegal in NSW though, as are driving lights. Driving lights are legal as long as they are turned off when near other cars just like high beam.

My bro-in-law's swift GTi had fog lights which were white and aimed down at the road. He got a fine for driving with them on. The cop said they are only legal to have them on if it is foggy.

Yeah, I tend to drive with my parkers on. On the highway I'll drive with headlights on. It makes you a lot more visible, which is always a good thing.

People seem to forget that sometimes its not about you being able to see, but other people being able to see you. Next time you drive when the Sun is low in the sky, note how hard it is to make out the cars that are between you and the Sun (so if the Sun's ahead of you, the cars in front).

All you see are big black shadows, with no detail. Its hard to even work out how far away from them you are. But, once they hit the brakes and the tail lights activate you can work your range out.

Same when its raining. There's enough ambient light to see the road immediately ahead of you, but other cars are a water-obscured blur.

Sure, having your headlights on at dawn or dusk might not mean you can see any further, but it doesn't negatively affect you and if it stops someone from arsing you then it'll be worth the effort.

On Saturday after I came home from a Soarer Club cruise, it was pissing down on the F3. If the visibility wasn't bad enough from the water falling from the sky, I got stuck near 2 semis kicking up so much spray you couldn't even see the truck's cab until you were at the beginning of the trailer.

I remember there being a few cars, including a 3 Series BMW and an Excel, and thinking "Why don't you idiots turn on your foglights now, when its actually beneficial?"

^^^Yeah I have to agree. Its ridiculous when its very dark and hard to see because of the clouds and pouring rain, and some idiots don't have thier lights on because its day-time or because it won't help them see.

Don't people notice how easier it is to see a car in bad weather when its got its lights on? I've almost had accidents because of cars I couldn't see, or saw at the last minute. One car came flying up the lane beside me on the F3 in terrible weather without his lights on while I was about to overtake someone. Lucky I just saw him at the last minute or it could have been ugly.

Well, on Saturday I almost ran in to the back of a white Camry that was in the middle of that spray storm. No lights on, and with the light grey sound barriers and that much water I didn't even see him until I was almost on top of him.

He was in the lane next to 2 trucks doing 100km/hr+ (between the Waitara ramp and the Mt Colah ramp, southbound) and pretty much between them. Why the guy decided to just match speed and sit in the middle of all that is beyond me.

Well i cant stand it when people DONT have there lights on when its getting dark. Freaking morons!

If the street lights are on, its illegal not to have your headlights on...

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
