G'Day Ppl,

New here,

Just got an 1989 Skyline for Daughters first car.

She wanted Mums 1976 VW Beetle [Rust Bucket].....No way, to dangerous :D

Looking to check out the Skyline and keep it on the road for starters.

I need a nickname for it first up...... :)

Then a Workshop Manual or the like

31 wagon eh? lol awesome old school.....................chuck some bling in the wheels department then slap on a bodykiet mmmmm.......yummy 31.........I seem to like 31s mroe and more these days

Keep the cooling system maintained and topped up and it will run forever.

Run the overflow low and get air in the head and it will eventually crack when it experiences a flogging or hot day.

Check the clutch fan is working correctly. You will hear it roar up first thing in the morning, then 15seconds later it will go quiet. When stuffed they 'generally' don't engage completely or nothing at all.

Clutch for the fan is around $140. Shop around at different auto shops, the price vary's considerably.

Get the trans serviced ~$75.

The diff's can be a little whiney, nothing to worry about. A couple large tubes of Nulon G70 will quieten it down.

Brake inspection and fluid change.

Should be a good reliable car then.

good choice over the bug

if ur daughters a rev head get a lsd in teh back

good drifting action cause no weight in the back - woohooo!!!!!!!!!!

if u want a bit more power hook up a simple cold air intake

ie cut a hole in teh bottom of the airbox and chuck some pipe in there to near the front bar - make sure u cover teh exposed end of the pipe with something like flywire

actually this is not really a cai but it makes the air flow into the engine a little less turbulent

get some new spark plug leads - big thick ones are good

make sure all teh wires are connected properly and tight

if the engine turns over grab each wire and shake it abit and see if the egine noise changes - if it does it will have a dodgy connection somewhere

a simple mod is putting a 2 1/4 press bent zorst in and or extractors with say a magna flow muffler and nice tip

dont worry bout mandrel bent zorst as it costs too much but also decrease back pressure too much - press bent is just perfect

hope some of this helps

lol, no one makes kits for R31s. Theres R31 house in japan, but tahts in japan.

Sounds good mate, show us some pics :)

Ok, i was kinad wrong saying that.

Nispares has some front lips. They used to have side skirts aswell, but by the looks of it they're the same as the r31house bodyparts.

    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
    • Lock me in mate, although I'm not sure if I'll be heading up from Goulburn or down from Sydney, either way, return will be back to Goulburn
    • Sounds good, we will aim to be there! @The Bogan I'll give you a shout if you are heading up to campbelltown for the meet too.
    • Before I get to the test day, just to finish off the android head unit. This is a demo from car start up....the standard/host system takes a few seconds to boot (same as all v37) but Android comes up quickly. In this vid I'm using the delivered launcher but have set the default to Agami since which is easier to navigate when if use primarily 5 apps. You can see the host system still takes over when required eg putting it in reverse, and you can switch between Android and not by holding the back button 3 sec. It is pretty responsive (fast) but you can see I had to press harder than expected a couple of times.  I still have the phone connected to the stock system, and that also seamlessly takes over Android music playing. v37-android-demo.mp4 The bigger reason that I put this in though is so that I can use Ecutek directly on the head unit. That gives me a dash with logging (up to 20MB only), high and low value warnings on any parameter etc etc. I've run a USB cable from the Ecutek OBD dongle to a USB input on the unit, easy. v37-ecutek-demo.mp4   The unit did freeze on the launcher the other day, I think Agami was trying to verify the license when it didn't have a data connection...will monitor and report back if there are any other problems but so far I'm very happy with the upgrade.
    • Nah that is just crappy GPS mapping, I did have a small excursion (cold tyres, damp track, surprise!), will post up that when I get a chance.
