Okay, no worries... makes sense...

Looks like I missed out a lot during my trip!!

Could another possibility be to make it a locked forum? So people can see it but not access it?

That way new members can find out about it?

Just throwing ideas around now.

Just one question, and I apologise if I missed this whilst I was in Japan, but I don't understand the reasoning behind making it hidden in the first place?

If people complained about TW thread overtaking the NSW forums (ROFL!), and a seperate forum was made to accomodate them, why make it hidden?

Personally I think TW is part of NSW, and shouldn't be segregated like it is now. I enjoyed reading the funny TW threads.

Just a bit of background re. TW Forum;

[ryan] set it up with NO discussion with any of the Admins or Mods. This was an abuse of his privleges as a Moderator. These privleges were given to him in order to assist with designing styles.

AFAIK [ryan] was specifically instructed to not make any changes to the forums without discussion, except for styles.

As a result [ryan] was removed by Prank as a Mod. and will never be trusted in this positon again.

I guess the issue is by creating the forum did his actions do more harm than good? Is the ensuing debate a positive thing for the Forums or damaging?

Whatever the issues [ryan] has created a problem that we must resolve.

that's easier said than done ryan. see what you didn't think of when you went ahead and created this section without asking was the implications. you can't create just this one secret forum. if this stays then squizz wants a garage spank section. there'll be numerous other factions asking for one and we'll have crap everywhere. but if that's what everyone wants then it will be done. it is everyones forum after all!

From what i know;

Aren't each of the state forums taken care of individually by each state execs etc - Separate rules, separate moderating guidlines and so on? Victoria, For example, have their Wasteland thread, and they say "keep the spamming there".. that seems to keep their members happy, or maybe not, i don't pay attention to them as it doesn't concern me. And if other factions are asking for a private forum - review the situation and see whether it's a good idea for them to have a forum or not. In this case, it's a good idea for this private forum to get around those double standards. If someone requests a private forum with valid reasons, and the moderators/execs in that state approve of it, so be it. If someone requests a private forum without valid reasons, it's not approved of by the people in that state, tell them no. Simple. It's not primary school, there's no need for the "oh but muuuuummmmmm! so and so has this! i want one tooooooooo!!!! MUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!" type attitude.

Hope that made some sense

Thanks Dino!

I came back to Sydney to find the NSW forums dead, and realised why when I spoke to one of the guys and I found out about the TW forums!

Sorry to open up a can of worms!

Once again, this'd put the double standards into play with the whole "family safe" thing they want.

You don't get it. Once again I'll repeat myself. You want to make it public and put a disclaimer. OK. I have no doubt it'll turn out like the wasteland. People will still whinge DESPITE the disclaimer, and of course you'll crack down and not allow stuff. Why? Because you want it to be a "family safe" website. Well, if this is the case, then you'd have to do the same thing to the westside forum you did to the wasteland then. Wasteland has a disclaimer doesn't it? Yet you insist no hot chick threads etc, cause you want "family safe". Double stanards galore. Yeah, nice work :)

umm...I don't believe that is a "Double standards" issue [ryan].

By having a disclaimer and not allowing porn etc. would just be "the standards".

Ryan is trying to say that some people enjoy the content, while some dont, so why not keep that content in an environment that is away from the element that doesnt approve of it?

Unless of course that content is deemed to not be suitable, not just in general SAU but also the private forum...

Disclaimers don't stop little billy from clicking the thread and reading about the "angry dragon".

And i don't see the private forum as a problem, it was never a problem until certain people blew it up INTO a problem. I'm with cereal, this is going in circles.

Snor.

Smooth your suggestion may well be the one that resolves this issue.

Its the only way i can see for SAU to prosper like we all want it too red... It will give everyone the option. That way there will be no complaints on content etc etc

Therefor allowing everyone to enjoy SAU in thier own way...

5hit, am I missing something ??

WHO COMPLAINED ABOUT THE CONTENT OF TW ????? ( and what was the issue in general ?)

Yes we are going in circles until somone provides the facts.

If I am deemed wrong, I will eat humble pie, (It actually is pretty good !!)

I would like to offer some suggestions.

While I totally agree with Ryan's intentions, I also agree and totally understand what Dino has said. I do believe that the concept behind the Team Westside forum is a positive move and should be adopted. I say this because there are alot of people out there who do get uptight about "hijacked" threads and general "post whoring". I can see that some of the TW antics we got upto in the threads in the NSW section may have left people with a sour impression of us or deterred them from staying because I'll admit that we do post alot of "openly homosexual", stupid and exclusive (for loss of a better word) content which offends some. I can totally understand someone reading our threads thinking, "ummmmmmmm I'll be staying away from them!!!", but unless you know the TW crew and understand that all this is light hearted, non-serious, fun chit chat amongst guys who know that what the others say is to be taken as a joke and is never serious, you can't really appreciate the humorous aspect of TW. The great thing about TW is that at all times we can all get along in a relaxed and humorous environment without the ego's and "I know everything so I'm god" attitude. There's no politics, no bitching, and no grudges. It's pure fun and enjoyment which is hard to find in the performance car scene these days.

Now to the suggestions, (btw I'm just brainstorming here)

1. Make the TW forum public, with a disclaimer (although I have doubts as to how effective this will be)

2. Make it private but visible. Meaning if a member of the forums clicks on it without access, a disclaimer page opens up stating clearly the content which is contained within and that the forum is purely a light hearted discussion forum and not a place to post threads for serious discussion. Should the member agree, they click AGREE which opens up a PM window to PranK to request access. (This may mean some serious work for the forum admins. sorry in advance guys :))

Thanks for your time ;)

    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
