OK, suggestions....

Boost controller? Im using a 'Hybrid' brand dual stage electronic boost controller, excellent unit for the $$, bought from www.flynnperformance.com.au, or can be found on ebay for around $300.

Cat Coverter? try BATMBL here on the forums, or again ebay for a stainless steel hiflow 3inch unit for around $200.

Mechanicl? depends where you are. Graham West Workshops on Marion rd rocks!

bwilkeson is on the money about the Hybrid dual stage boost controller. I have one (in my S15) and they are excellent (especially value for money-wise) - www.flynperformance.com.au had an ad on ns.com selling these for around $200, which is an absolute steal. I think normal price is around $300.

OR there is/was a guy on SAU that sells a bleed-valve type (not really a bleed valve as such) setup for only $35 .... not sure if he is still around or not - I think Joel has been using one, and I am going to put one on the R34 once it's on the road. It also eliminates wastegate creep, so will reduce lag (in theory anyhow).

I just bought a 3" high flow XForce cat off Ebay for just under $150 delivered, otherwise BATMBL (Bos Imports) sells the same unit for around $180 + delivery. The Magic Cats advertised on ns.com are far better at nearly twice the flow rate, but are around $420 + delivery.

If you are stuffing around with your exhaust anyhow you should invest in a front/dump pipe (if you haven't got one already) from BATMBL - I just bought a segregated wastegate one for $420, but I think he does a single pipe version for $270 also. Well worth the money, and a good power increase.

I have had my car worked on by Tilbrooks, Morpowa and Turbo Tune - all of whom I can recommend. Beware though, when it comes to anything mechanical on a high performance car, you can double whatever you think it is going to cost. :)

cool, thanks guys...

i dunno what my car has so far...there might b a dump pipe alreay...when i get it serviced, i get som1 2 tell me what i got and what i should get...

ill try out those 3 places 4 a service.

i had my other cars done at D&T, so i might go past them see what they can do 4 me....

is it easy to install a boost controller?

i also go a turbo timer lying around, how easy r they 2 install?

cos im so lazy i might go 2 some car place n get them 2 do it all hahaha.....

sorry bout the questions guys, tel me to shut up if i get annoying...

As you know the cat is generally the most restrictive part of any exhaust system, so I highly recommend one of Bos Importing's cat (w/ stainless steel inside). I got the 3.5" one off BATMBL, very hi-flowing. Or the Metal cat can be bought from Car Toys for $400 (doesn't include flanges).

For boost controller Im using the GReddy Profec B-specII ($459), its easy to use & has a display screen. Also, before I did have the Turbosmart bleed valve & had no real spiking issues @ 12psi, main diff is it didnt boost as quick as the EBC.

got a hiflow cat today at d&t, $320, car seems alot better, only get an extra 5kw if went 4 a $500 stainless ...so cbf wasting extra money...

got some prices for a boost controler...

autobarn blitz dual stage type r $799 + $88 install

turbo tune blitz dual stage type r $900 fitted and dyno tuned + plugs and oil if needed.

both said hybrid aint that good...turbo tune seem good 2 me cos they gona tune it :(

im also considering to either leave the boost 4 a while n get a cool alarm system, one that i can start from my remote and it looks and closes the windows...james bond style haha autobarn seemed to have a good one for about $900....

hmmmmm, then again i could use $900 for xmas haha

opinions ppl :) thanks

Was the alarm you were looking at at Autobarn the Viper 791XV?

There are guys on SAU and ns.com forums selling these alarms for $399.

I am getting one of these for the R34.

Nozila and Sambo33 both have one and recommend them.

I think the window windup kit is $90 from the SAU and ns.com sellers.

The problem with an alarm like this is the extras all add up REALLY quickly - even at the cheap prices offered. My wish list goes like this:

alarm $399

battery backup $ 50

window windup $ 90

movement sensor $ 65

piezo sirens x2 $ 50

electric trunk release $ 60

Viper el light $ 30

Spare pager remote $140

TOTAL $884

+ fitting of at least $300-$400 for all those items!

Great alarm though - and would be pimped out to the max with all those extras.

My other idea was to put about 4-6 piezo sirens in (in various hidden places), so if a crook was in the car when the alarm went off, it would literally send them deaf :(

ahhahaha

making them deaf is a good idea...

ummm, yeah i think it was the viper 1, it was in the front case n it looked like a big computer chip with spots for wires n looked cool...duno wat extras it had i was ina rush, but he said window thing was extra 100 or so, and extra installation...

i dunno..i might go the boost controler 4 now n do the alarm later...i just think its cool 2 b able 2 start ur car from the remote....

wat u guys think about turbo tune price and the blitz controller?

absolutely DO NOT leave your car without an alarm.

In my opinion people who don't have alarms in such attractive cars deserve to have them stolen, and just make the rest of our premiums go up.

I got a blitz sbc I-D for around $550 from nengun.com. Works sweet!

I just had a heap of work done at Tilbrooks, new engine, PFC, camgear and boost controller. I'm happy with the work they did. They compression tested and leak down tested 4 engines, at their expence, before they found me a good one. Not many places will do that.

i got an alarm atm, but its a bit old....im not that stupid too have no alarm :D

i might just get a slightly cheaper alarm n get the boost controler as well

haha cya money, im on a spending spree this week..

I got an 'insurance approved' black-wired car alarm, brand Black Widow model 10000, cost $180 off ebay new. Does the job - the car is alarmed and aok under my insurance stipulations.

btw, nothing wrong with the Hybrid ebc, although if I had my time again I would have got a $500 brand name item (and the big body batmbl cat not the small, and the split dump not the single, brand new fmic not 2ndhand, etc etc). But its all about $$ resources! ie best bang for buck........

Good luck with it all. Brendan

do not comprise performance over safety and assurance - alarm/immobiliser. ebc can wait - btw reason why autobahn doesnt think highly of hybrid is simply because they dont stock them. my missus and i have both had the viper since it was in the market in aust - cant remember model number, and it has done exactly as its suppose to. very user friendly and has many additonal add on options at its disposal. btw ebc's aint always the bee's knee's.

They compression tested and leak down tested 4 engines, at their expence

doesnt take much to do a compression and leak down test. having said that, i know where your coming from...its the customer service they offer - finally.

    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment.
