To be honest, I didn't notice a massive difference after the pineapples were fitted. There was a subtle difference but not massive on mine. I think that could have a lot to do to the fact I have fairly soft suspension. Best results with pineapples I think will be had with firmer (or the stock) suspension.

A soft ride has its benefits in everyday driving though, so I'm not too fussed.

I drove my friend's 200sx and fto etc... skyline suspension feels very spongy and has more body roll. I think its because the car is much more heavier than 200sx. But I am definitly less confident when doing some hard corner on normal streets with skyline.

maybe a aftermarket suspension will help?

any suggestions?

I live in sydney and in some suburb the road condition are pretty bad. My car is about 2 inch lowered and I dont think the suspension isnt gonna have a long life if I travel alot on those bumpy roads.

considering handling and comfort. any suggestions?

Swaybars and as your car has been lowered an alignment kit. My car uses Whiteline bits and pieces, but there are other brands out there. Expect to pay about $700 for this.

Originally i ran around with King Springs, and after the alignment and swaybars noticed a big difference. Stayed that way for a few weeks then went back and got new shocks and matching springs. On the road there wasnt any real difference between the the whole hog (shocks, springs, swaybars, bushes, braces etc) and just the swaybars and alignment kit.

However a trip to the track highlighted the additional stability of the new shocks/springs.

the area I found that made the biggest diff was changing up to 2nd gear

before pineapples: tail slid out ... pretty dangerously in fact! So I was limited to the amount of throttle I could give it :D

after pineapples: chirps to 2nd, chirps to 3rd

I did change the tyres not long after putting the pineapples in, which made a huge diff too, however on the same tyres there was a definate gain in traction!

Personally I'd say the pineapples work best with a good set of tyres

Although on osc@r's silvia he said it reduced traction, even when set up the same way as mine ... however he has thinner tyres, so whether that's the diff or something else, I couldn't say

it seems to be of advantage to some cars but not others, perhaps the suspension you use too

but on my part, it's one of the best things that's helped traction for sure! and for 100 bux!

I have an R32 with stock suspension. To me the diff seems very tight, i don't know if it's normal or not, cuz i have nothing to compare with.

Anyhow, sometimes when i give my car stick around a corner, i get diff shutter (axle tramp??). Alot of people told me that was just because it was on the verge of not having enough power to fully slide out. But it seemed to happen whatever corner i tried to slide out of.

I haven't done it for awhile, due to the fuel factor.

Will pineapples help with this situation?

Yes they will help.

My cornering has been much more stable since installing the pineapples.

I have also noticed that wet weather driving is more consistant with the pineapples installed.

I have zero tyres on the back so of course that wouldn't help my situation! Still, I should be getting new 235mm tyres on some 17" rims on Friday, so that should improve handling on mine.

Improved sway bars (front and back) would definitely help. I had them on my old R31 and even though it had not much power, it handled pretty well for an old beast.

I am a 50/50 on pineapples....

My gf's 200sx has em and their ok, i drove it before an after and noticed that the rear felt tighter round corners... but it didnt feel natural and felt as though it might let go any second...

The pineapples reduced my confidence in taking corners hard...

Were they set up for all-round grip or straight-line grip? I've said it before in other pineapple threads and I'll say it again, all-round grip is the *only* way to set it up for a street car. Handling is comprised otherwise and I found it downright dangerous at times. Changing over from all-round to straight-line is a simple 30min exercise that you can do before a trip to the drags.

$80 for installation is abit steep.

It should take a solid 30-40mins to install it and 25-30mins if they know what they are doing. (Surpisingly 2 suspension shops i went to had never seen them and no idea how to install them without the provided instructions).

Should probably cost you $170-180.

    • I drive the Tiguan much harder than the Skyline in all conditions, because it just grips and hooks, unlike the R33 shit box
    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
