Now that there are a few people with NewKleer's Consult Interface kits I thought I'd start a thread for the software and any questions / issues / ideas that people are having with it.

This interface should work with most generic consult software. Only issue ive found thus far is that rom dumping doesnt work on Nissan Datascan, but works fine on Calumsult.

Calumsult - use this .exe (placed in same directory) if you have problems with rom dumping - normal .exe has resume on rom dump and more gauges, old exe doesnt but seems to work better (or so the author has said)

So, to get the ball rolling:

I've had a look at Datascan on a friend's laptop and I can't get the Active Cylinder tests to work.

From the engine manual it seems that the Nissan Consult uses a program card. Is the software meant to be model specific? Has anyone else managed to turn off 1 cylinder at a time using the active tests?

ive been able to turn cylinders off/on on my old rb25 silvia.

not all cars support the cylinder tests in the same way. unfortunately sr20's have it a different way, not sure if any software supports it that way (check out sr talk or whatever its called)

i got one of them consult cables a while back from newkleer, worked great :(

Only problem i had in my rb25 (using all of the software packages) was that when throttle was 0% open, software would report it 20% open..

and then when it was realy 100% open.. software would report it 80% open.

My R33 using SRtalk reported my TPS at 8% when idle. It seems to measure voltage like an 02 sensor would. With Conzult-free, it measured 0.42v or something.

So I dunno about these discrepencies...

Those two programs are the easiest to setup and start using right away, OBD and TECU were fussy for me, and TECU didn't support a COM port above 4, so it didn't want to look at my USB consult cable. =-/

Calumsult I never got working.... full package or not.

I'm currently looking into getting the full (Conzult-sx)Conzult program, but at $75 Euro's, it's pretty pricey. =-[ The free version does a lot of monitoring, but I wanted the ECU-learning reset feature and all the other tests such as the HICAS, A/C etc...

can anyone verify that SRTalk just sits there and does nothing if you ask for the error codes and there are no error codes/problems. My engine won't start (engine light flashing), yet SRTalk just sits there saying 'getting error codes', but that's all!

I have an Sr mate - I am talking about my S15 that has the problem :P .... everything else works perfect! I just think maybe if you have no error codes, the software just sits there and does nothing when you ask it to report error codes. Conzult works fine too, but does the same thing with the error codes.

SR talk asks you to choose your engine... in my case, i put a dot next to "RB25DET", and all the values appeared correctly.

When I used it last, and checked error codes, it came back and said something like "no errors found!" with a smiley face.

Your mate is trying it with the ignition on, right? I think I tried that function with the engine RUNNING. When I turn the car off, and my alarm (built in turbo timer) takes over, the software just stops reporting anything.

Possibly SRTalk doesn't run without the engine running? NewKleer, which circuit does the power wire in the consult harness run off? Is the power from accessories or...?

normally its wired up to IGN on, so u need it on reds for it to work. depends how ur car is wired for turbo timer as to whether it will continue to work or not when timer on

i havent tried srtalk recently, seems its changed a bit since i used it last if it works with rb25's now

yeah I was using it with the ignition on - it saw the ECU fine.

I have had an auto techinician out and he ran his fancy consult machine, and it also says no fault codes.

We have diagnosed it down to being the factory immobiliser. When the car is off, the immobiliser light on the dash flashes like it should. However, when you turn the ignition to the 'on' position, the immobiliser light turns on hard red, and the engine won't fire (which is typical of an immobiliser). Both the auto tech and Nissan haven't heard of this before - so I will have to get the car towed to Nissan for them to problem solve it :)

yikes... fair point! So one of the points it immobilises is obviously the starter motor, considering you get ignition.

My immobiliser cuts ignition also, so I get no HICAS, airbag, etc lights on the dash, and no fuel-pump priming until I un-immobilise it.

i know this might sound obvious, but are you sure the immobiliser is actually off when u try to start the engine?

the immobiliser is factory .... all S15/200SXs have them, and it automatically activates when you remove the key, and automatically disarms when you put the key back in (the key has a small chip in it, which must be matched to the immobiliser when in the ignition).

Hill starting won't work, as there is no fuel being supplied to the cylinders.

Thanks for your ideas though guys - keep them coming if you think of anything.

I am actually wondering whether the immobiliser has a relay somewhere, and that has failed?

    • If they can dyno them, get them dyno'd, make sure they're not leaking, and if they look okay on the dyno and are performing relatively well, put them in the car.   If they're leaking oil etc, and you feel so inclined, open them up yourself and see what you can do to fix it. The main thing you're trying to do is replace the parts that perish, like seals. You're not attempting to change the valving. You might even be able to find somewhere that has the Tein parts/rebuild kit if you dig hard.
    • Can you also make sure the invoices on the box (And none exist in the boxes) are below our import duty limits... I jest, there's nothing I need to actually purchase and order in. (Unless you can find me a rear diff carrier, brand new, for stupidly cheap, that is for a Toyota Landcruiser, HZJ105R GXL, 2000 year model...)  
    • Murphy strikes again! Nothing at all would have gone wrong if you had the tool kit in the car! You'd have just found the clamp loose the next time you went to touch it...
    • I have been being VERY quiet about what you're alluding to, as it is something that ticks me off... The number of cars from factory that run coil overs is HUGE! Most of them these days do... The other part that annoys me, is people saying "Well all the incabin adjustable suspension is illegal by blah blah blah"... If that's the case, then why can I buy a car brand new that can do it if, FULL STOP in cabin adjustable suspension is illegal...   Also, I could just chuck some aftermarket shocks in my car, throw the stock springs on, after my blue slip, dump my super low springs back in. Same shock and spring style setup... Hell, they could also be the same colour springs etc.     I'm voting, BlueSlipper didn't want to touch the above car for some reason. Whether it be some sort of bias against the car, the owner, them maybe having previously done dodgy shit and now they're being super careful in case they get slapped in the face by the Gumbyment again... Find a new blueslip place.   And can confirm as you had said, yes there are holy bibles of vehicle heights, and all sorts of other suspension stuff. Heck your run of the mill mechanic, and tyre shop has access to all of that stuff. It's how they do wheel alignments...
    • Funny story Heading to Sydney this morning on the HWY there was some slow traffic, so I gave it the beans and midway through my overtaking "power run" I lost all power It seems that I missed a hose clamp,  and the MAF and filter went WiFi To make this more problematic, the little tool kit that lives in the boot, is sitting in the sun room at Goulburn......LOL Luckily for me I found a bit of steel on the side of the road that could be used like a rusty and bent flat head screw driver to tighten it up enough that it got me into Sydney, it is now all tight like a tiger with the aid of a 8mm socket Note to self: Use my brain and double check stuff, and always keep that little tool kit in the car for when I have a brain fart
