Turk,

Most likely a dump pipe design issue.

yeah dont know man, been given all sorts of reasons like the flow is too good hence the spike

and was advised to add octane boost to stop pinging

could be cams

hasnt been a simple upgrade solution like i was informed in the begining, bolt off bolt on 50rwkw good story

I should have gone for the HKS GTRS option would have cost me roughly the same after havein all the problems with the highflow

R33GOD

Why limit yourself because of a faulty product?

Not saying that Slide turbos are bad/faulty, as i have had good experiences with Aaron (Slide). Sometimes shit happens and one or two go bad; i know i am in the technology trade. But when you get the replacement unit, don't hold back, it should be good to at least 16-18psi, if it fails then ask for a refund.

I know that my high-flow turbo ran out of puff at anything over 16psi (ie: the increase in rwkw did not justify the increase in boost). And with my level of head work, the turbo was limited to 270rwkw. On a std head, i would not expect to see over a genuine 250'ish rwkw.

i dont know why but i just get put off. i just dont want it to break again. being bush bearing and all.

i just cant afford having my car off the road again. so il drop the boost to keep it safer

Just realised i started this thread in Nov '05.

Back then i stated; "Hopefully this set-up will last approx 12 months, then the bottom end will be treated to forgies....". It actually lasted 16 months and dropped compression in cyl #3 at a Calder Park track meet :nyaanyaa:

Now i'm doing a whole lot more than just forgies .

Funny how your words come back to haunt you.

So i'll state: Hopefully the new setup will last 30 faultless, hassle free, years :worship:

Numerous track, motorkhana, drag and cruise days, 7yrs of hard driving. A fair bit of punishment and high temp/stress events.

Honestly; when the piston was removed we barely found the fault. 4 hairline cracks between the ring lands, that's it. No melting, detonation, missing bits, etc. Bores, bearings, rods, crank, etc were still in perfect condition and the head of the damaged piston was unmarked. So the conclusion was fatigue.

here is my recent dyno, (keeping with the topic) ive just had a rb25 highflow with the vg30 exhaust housing, also a nismo fuel reg and z32 afm.

wow, thats not too bad! :)

mine did all 6 ringlands :D

See that's were i am a little disappointed: i farked up an engine but have nothing to show for it, i have no bragging rights!

You stating "mine did ALL 6 ringlands" has a bit of cred; or better yet "kicked a leg out of bed".

I can't even fark up an engine properly :(. Funny thing is, on 5.5 cyl the car still felt strong, Driving home, after the race, i gave it a squirt in 2nd gear (to 100km/h) and thought all was good, and the oil out the filter was just massive blow-by. The next morning, when it took almost ten minutes and endless cranks to start, was my first indication something was wrong. Compression went something like: 158, 160, 83, 161,159,160. Yet when the power came on, i had no smoke and the car almost felt as strong as usual.

Barely justifies a $15K conversion/build

lol, i see your point, better to kill it good than something small requiring a rebuild. its fairly disheartening at the time, but in the end its good to know you now have an engine that can cope with the extra kw :D

it is funny too, when my compression was down the car still pulled hard and felt like nothing was wrong.. execpt for the oil cloud blocking my rear view and filling up my 1L catch can in one good 4th gear boost

wow. thats the second one that ive heard of to go in the same way. what a suprise. whos one is next, do you think?

lol probably mine; its now officially been one year since I received it and installed it.

out of warranty FTL

but still, a warranty on a turbo is a good deal for sure

Al i take it your not using another hi-flow with that 15k build..

What build route did you go?

Its still good to see that these little hi-flows last a while, Im acutally holding back on chucking on the gt30 because of the hi-flows potential..

Just a run down..I made 235rwkw on 10-12psi with exhaust,fmic,rb20 actuator and SAFC..thats about it without getting to technical.

As mentioned earlier, i dumped sold the Hi-flow for a HKS GTRS, only to find (at a later date) that my exhaust was the main reason for the lag. But that hi-flow is now in a friend's R34 GTT, and it's still going strong, making 270rwkw@15psi.

The build is very extensive as it's being prep'ed for motorkhana and track work

The key parts:

- rb30det conversion (built to rev to 8000rpm)

- GReddy plenum

- Tuned length, high mount, ext manifold

- Garrett GT3076R (GT30R) [smallest turbo recommended for the engine]

The end result should be about 300-330rwkw@20psi, with better response than a hi-flow turbo :P

Turk,

Is the dump pipe a split dump design...i.e . seperate pipe for wastegate.

I have a split dump design on the 33 with the hi-flow and it seems to work a treat. It plumbs back in at the bottom of the dump where it bends to go to the cat.

yeh Al i did see that post earlier, its great to see the turbo still going strong and at a very respectiful power figure still.

Your build sounds awesome, good luck with traction. Though it sounds like the turbo will be very progressive and im sure you have concentrated on the suspension..so good luck with it all.

Cheers

thanks :glare:

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
