I drives a R34 GTT Manual, and I got offers for Blitz intercoolers (new + pipping) that is kitted for the ER34 . However I found an aftermarket for GTR HKS Type R (2nd hand) which is price much lower but I have to do the piping myself yet still cheaper than the Blitz. I was told that the HKS would give me lag.

Which one would be a better buy in the long run if my goal would be around 400-450ps in the near future?

Thanks in advance. Cheers!

Why would one give more lag than the other? Does it have an extra 2 litres of internal volume?

Id expect either would be fine for your goal as they are both name brand cores and good quality, assuming they are around the 600x300 core size (which is just about an industry standard these days)

Thanks mate for your feedback.

The reason I was told about the lag is the piping for the blitz is shorter since it will continue halfway from the existing stock piping and go underneath the intercooler to join the other far end with a 180 turn piping. Where else the HKS intercooler needs the piping to be specially made coming from left through the battery base(bore a hole just like GTR piping arrangement). Would the minimal extra length, will i get more lag?

Honestly, I prefer the HKS Type R for the price but the Blitz is new...so getting confused.

The HKS Type R is for designed GTR's as it's a lot thicker than the Blitz (100mm vs 70mm) so you may have trouble getting it to sueeze in the ER34 bay.

Another thing, even though the quality is great I found my HKS one damaged VERY easily and within 3 months the fins on the front were really damaged, so I've bought a Bar/Plate design instead which is less prone to damage.

so these intercooler kits fit straight flush, no cutting of anythings esp front bar and that?? im looking at a intercooler kit, wanting jap brand, but dunno wat to get...i like the blitz cuz it has stockish piping...is arc worth it?

I Believe apexi, hks and blitz all make a kit that uses the stock piping..

I think the apexi one was slightly more expensive by like $200, and the cooler itsself looked smaller than the blitz one.. so i got the blitz one

I currently have a custom 600x300x100 cooler (using a PWR core) and had no problems with fitting. Even used the factory holes for the piping.

As for cooler choice....if your looking at changing the plenum in future id say go for the HKS out of the two.

The blitz one from memory has a bend on the drivers side end tank so it would be very difficult to modify the piping to suit an aftermarket forward feed plenum.

On the subject of plenums though..good luck with the neo engine.

Ive been looking for quite some time now for a suitable bolt on type plenum and there is not much out there.

yeah the volume is the same... but the air travels through less piping to get to the TB..

if you were refering to my second post 2nite

I think if u measured the piping it would be the same volume as the other kits.

Doubt there would be much diffrerence there.

I got the blitz one. MINT

The blitz piping has 3 turns.

The one which goes around the fan has 5 turns.

Conclusion blitz has less lag cause of the less turns and shorter piping.

Also a cop wont like the look of a huge pipe running around the engine, unlike the blitz where you dont see nothing from the engine bay.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
