I recently had a problem with my front left headlight. For a while it was a little dimmer than the right, now, nothing at all.

I have tried playing with the connections at the back to see if it had just come loose, but nothing. So i had a look at the right headlight to see if anything was different.

Now i have no headlights. Sorry i mean no low beams. Parkers and high beam are fine.

Any help. How do I take the headlight assembly out and check it properly?

Another obvious question checked fuse's( but a blown fuse might affect the high-beam too) so it must be the globes.

http://www.skylinegts.co.uk/R32-Fuses.htm

Has the layout but a test light is the best way to check fuses and also to check that it isn't a blown bulb!

Other than that it might be wiring/relay/earth?

The dull headlight sounds like globe fault/faulty earth to me!

The fuses for the headlights are in the engine bay in the relay box, two blue 15A ones!!

Also when ever taking out a globe don't touch the glass part!!(If you do touch the glass part clean it with dry cleaning fluid and a nice soft cloth before you reinstall it!)

MEGA

Hmmm... i've always wondered why they put the massive emphasis on that?? I've touched headlight globes before, whacked em back in and no problems whatsoever. Sure, you don't want to leave big oil marks over them from your skin - but i've always just cleaned it down with my tshirt or something and no probs

my friend has similar problems with his 32 gts .. one of the lights dont' work some of the time ... and sometimes it works correctly ... he wants to know where can you find the relay which the light uses??

Could be due to the switch (the stick you turn the headlights on with). I had a similar problem on my R31. It was pretty intermittant and eventually just went out together. And yes, the switch does have left/right wiring inside so one light can go and not the other.

Its most likely the globes. You will probably find when you remove them, they will have a lovely silver mirror finish on the inside of the glass - that would explain the gradual dimming of the LH one at least.

I have the same problem.

My front left works every now and then, ive swapped bulbs many times, which so far hasn't made a great deal of difference...

Its really starting to shit me off, if the light doesn't come on, i bang the glass covering, and it will come on 99% of the time.

My turbo timer has now ****ed up since last nite, (won't keep car running), so im thinking ive got an earthing problem somewhere.

Any tips on how i can check,

a. earthing (where and for which part)

b. the switch for the headlights

The other bit thats pissing me off, is im using the globes that cost $50 for 2. Now when these go pop for no reason after a day...

Im running a pretty powerful amp, could this have anything to do with it? (the headlight was giving me shit b4 all this went in however).

there is no relay for the headlights on an R32, its all through the switch, mine does the same thing but im waiting till the w'end to take the switch out to clean the contacts in the switch, the problem can be caused by arc-ing in the switch which leaves hi resistance deposits on the contacts hence the no low beams

therees a shroud thing around ur gagues, that has about 5 screws holding it in, after removing these screws, you need to unplug the looms from the switches mounted on the shroud, there are five or six plugs that need to come off, also it may help to label where the plugs came from (lights, foggies etc...) after the shroud is free, you may need to lower the steering wheel to free shroud, the switch can be removed, by undoing another four i think it is screws, then the switch will come out

but remember, the car is very well screwed together and there can be "hidden" screws that you may not see at first glance, dont want to break anything

My R32 had dodgy low beam when I got it. First the left would go out then the right. Turned out to be the switch. Removed switch as SupaFly Skyline described after I found the screw hidden by the under-dash turbo-timer. After gently prising open the switch I cleaned the burnt looking residue from the contacts with fine wet and dry sandpaper and sprayed them with contact cleaner. Then I cleaned and lubricated the sprung detents. While the switch was open I replaced the blown indicator bulb inside (fiddly). Back together it works perfectly. No more problems X (fingers crossed).

Ok,

first things first, this is not a 10 minute job :)

Ater ripping everything out, i cleaned up the contacts by sanding them down, spraying some wd40 on them and put it all back together. Everything seems to be working ok so far, so ill see how it goes over the next few weeks.

Thanks to every1 that provided info :P

    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
