Hello all, this is my first post and i have been reading some the threads over the last couple of days. I must say i am thoroughly confused with all the different model and engine numbers that these cars have.

I am still in the dark ages at the moment as far as vehicle choice. I have a 98 xr8 sedan with the acient (spelling)windsor 5litre. I am looking at purchasing a new car in about april may and have been checking out the xr6t ba falcon,as i like abit of comfort and room.

I already know about the possible driveline probs this car might have if a few mods were made to increase boost.I was wondering what my 50g's would get me in a import.

This is just an inquiry at the moment so i'm not ready to sign on the dotted line just yet.

xr6t with a couple of options 50,000 on the road

xr8 * * * * * * * * * * * * 56,000 on the road

Drove both (manual) and seat of the pants say's the turbo's quicker. (imo):uh-huh:

Finding a R32 in good condition will be hard. I spent a year doing so. Now probably will be harder. My car's starting to show leaks but that's cause I thrash it on the track.

R33 gtr is the best bet. Get a V spec if you can live with the harshness. In you can't, just get a regular R33 gtr.

R34 lacks torque that GTR's produce stock.

I would buy an R33 GTR

Thanks for the replies guys. R33 gtr seems to be a favorite by the sounds of most comments. What is the resale on these vehicles like say with 100,000kms travelled?

Is it better to purchase a car with no mods done and also seeing as the other half has to drive it as well, are the auto's substanially slower? ( i know can't be helped unfortunatly) Parts and servicing, is it alot more expensive than the average performance car?

thanks again.

I'm starting to think there are too many R33 GTR's around or cars that are trying to look like an R33 GTR (i can talk ) and most people who aren't into skylines can't tell for crap (or care) whether it really is a GTR.

I'm even thinking an R34 GT-T is a better option to an R33 GT-R due to them being newer, more original looking, decent power, for same price. Just my personal opinion though!

Oil, filter, plugs things like that aren't going to be too much differnt to what you're going to have to sink into a new XR6. I think with a performance car/car you care about you maybe get better things rather than the cheapest crap you can find. Generally that gives you longer life out of things.

Autos? Nah, sorry. GTRs are a drivers car foremost, and like any good drivers car, it only comes in manual.

Hey Turbine,

Yea its better to get a stock gtr in my opinion.A stock one is fast enough already, and maybe modified one gets alot of "use and abuse".I think the resale value is pretty good, its a gtr afterall.Anyway, i think an r33 gtr is one of the best value for money performance car out there.Servicing will costs much like any other import.Test drive one, youll thank me later

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
