Hi

Anyone know how hard or easy it is to change the hydraulic fluid for the transfer case for the attessa? mines sprung a leak where the hose that leads into the transfer case. Is it just a gasket that needs to be replaced and then the fluid that is lost replaced? Also the type of fluid to use? Anyone have previous experience and knowledge would be appriciated. thanks

the hose that goes into the transfercase actually just feeds pressurised fluid into the actuator that is mounted at the back of the transfer case. the transfer case has it's own fluid that you service, one drain plug and one filler plug. attessa actuator reservior should be in the rhs of boot behind liner.

Use nissan automatic transmission fluid - can't remember what is called sorry... Nissan will know tho..

EDIT* Just reread the first post - use the tranny fluid for the attessa reservoir - not sure what for the transfer case...

Thats right, auto trans fluid from the boot resoviour.  From memory theres no gasket just a screw in fitting.

ok kool thanks ...if iam doing that myself to change the fitting...i presume i will lose fluid from the boot resevoir so i may as well do a serive n drain and change it, but what kind of fluid do i use to replace? would nissan sell them??

ps: duncan i want to purchase the attessa controller of you if u have any available still..still waiting to get my other car ready so can use on that. cheers

yeah but if i take that hose that is bolted on to the transfer case with two bolts out n replace with new gasket i presume...which fluid will come out? from the boot resevoir on driver side?

First undo the pipe the goes into the rear of the transfer case ( 14 mm pipe spanner if i remember right ) , block the end of it so you don't loose fluid ( if you dont want to change the fluid in the boot ) , then undo the little plate where you say its leaking and seal it with a gasket or liquid sealant , reinstall the reverse order .

If you want to change the fluid in the transfer case undo the plug under it and drop it out then undo the filler plug on the side and fill until it starts coming out .

If you want to replace the attessa fluid , undo the little bleed nipple under the boot on the drivers side ( under the car where the reservoir is )and let it drain out . Fill the tank in the boot to max and then you have to bleed the system while you keep an eye on the tank to make sure it doesn't run low .

To bleed the system you have to activate the attessa pump , yopu will find that you have to find a plug under the dash , near the steering ( refer to the workshop manual as to what you have to do , not sure on the 32 , i cant remember ) .

Once the pump is going you undo the bleed nipple on the transfer case for a second and do up again , repeat until there is no more bubbles in it .

If you dont bleed the system the attessa wont work as its meant to , you have to bleed the system everytime you pull the g/box down to do a clutch as well .

You can use Nissan matic-d auto fluid in both , i dont , i use dextron III .

I hope that helps you .

Correct Richard , same in both mate , but Nissan have the oil as well but they know how to charge .

Make sure you bleed it though , some people have trouble geting the screw plugs out so make sure you can undo the fill plug first before you let the oil out of the trasfer case .

yes! wise advice. i made that mistake once before, drained out a gearbox then couldn't open the farking fill plug. the oil still all drained out i guess as there was enough air coming in through the breather. eventually we got the filler open but it was a nervous moment.

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
