thinking about buying an oil cooler and installing into my car, now its a fairly standard set up, walbro pump, 450x300x80 cooler, air partitioned and insulated k&n pod, 3.5" turbo back kakimoto exhaust, std turbo (altho i have a high flowed one sitting on my floor when i can be bothered going through hell to put it in!), 500hp walbro pump, bleed valve, turbo smart stage 2 blow off, running 15psi and thats about it...

so yeh for this set up considering its pretty standard, first off what woul i have to do to install one? where would be the best place to mount it? any recomendation's on the cooler to get? maybe second hand off something else? where do oil lines etc have to be joined? could any one please help :( and if any one could offer rough idea's for pricing

also the same for oil catch can

i have this theory and wud like sum1 to correct me if im wrong.....

if the oil cooler is sitting lower than the sandwich plate does that mean wen u do a oil change the oil in the cooler wont get drained ???

if the cooler is mounted and the lines coming out from top how does that drain out ???

goin on that duz that mean the cooler shud be mounted high......

thats correct..oil in the cooler and lines lower then sandwich plate or oil filter plate, does not get drained, so you then have to drain those manually when changing oil. If you change oil quite regularly then its prob not so bad to just leave what oil is in there when adding new oil.

i recomend finding the biggest one you can aford.

tyre in oil cooler or 30 roe oil cooler in ebay. i almost got one but they are mostly dash 8 fittings(9/16 ant i had dash 10.(5/8) ize hose

my gtr struggles with oil temp with 2 25row dash 1o serek ones!!(mainly due to the 4 relief valves in the factory oil filter housings. so bigger is best and a pissy 19 row one wont cut it for a minuite.

you could fit a 30row one in(just) the front inner guard behind the brake duct.

hope that helps

hey Dave ... motor sport connections have adapters for moving dash 8 to dash 10..

i bought one of the just jap ones for $99 , had to get the adapters since they dont run std dash fittings on them..

yet to install it though, gotta finish welding up the support brackets for it!

ok so if i buy a 30 row one, with a dash 8 fitting could i get all the adaptors and fittings from just jap at kirrawee?, and installing should be pretty easy? i installed my front mount and customed some piping into my car so im pretty sure i could do it, theres now electrical involved?

dont know if they have all the fittings there.. pretty sure they have the adapter plate for them though.

i got all the sandwich plates, remote filter unit, fittings and line from motorsport connections..

that little lug is for when you mount the tank horrizontal like the first pic.. then the clear tube to show the oil level goes vertical instead of horrizontal.

there was a thread about 3 weeks ago with a full pictorial install run through..

so the 3rd connection is for mounting it sideways? so do i just block this off if i install vertically? and also whats the link to the thread as i searched throw many and were not very comprehensive or helpful, was more like... heres a pic of my pretty engine bay, make it look like this!

Time to go back to your respective forums or alternatively go look @ your own nuts in the mirror.

cheers

LOL, what, like the 'masterb***ing' cat thread in the wasteland??? :(

just got my oilc cooler too, looks like a busy weekend for me, oil cooler looks easy tho, has 2 parts think it just bolts on where the oil filter goes then the oil filter bolts onto the other adapter run the lines to wherever i wanna mount my shiny new cooler and hey presto, but the oil catch can i also only got one line for it? FTW? thing is shitting me lol something so simple is making my head spin, i might actually go and have a proper look at my car tomorrow

also just to give people an idea.

i purchased oil cooler from just jap for $240 for the kit, and the catch can i got off flying performance for $45 or something

so how things are looking now, i have in my high flowed r33 turbo, 450x300x78 fmic with 2.5 piping, walbro fuel pump, bleed valve(will be installing an electronic soon), k&n pod filter, 3.5 turbo back, home custom heat shield for pod, ssqv blow off, will be installing catch can and cooler on weekend any ways any feed back on what else i could do!

thinking about cam gears soon, and the elec boost controller and also an safc/tune, also some bigger injectors, any ideas on what sort of injector's/cam gears would be good? also any other idea's would be appreciated ;) im hoping for a nice reliable stockish car that can push out at least 210rwkw with minamal lag and a nice power curve, but all in all its all about having fun fiddling with your car :D

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
