  1. Unfortunately the cars straight from Japan so I also don't know what LSD is in there. So MTL is ok for a GTR gearbox? I will try 75w90 in the rear, and look at some redline lightweight shockproof for the front, should I go redline lightweight shockproof in the front without the LSD modifier? Or do I need to add the LSD modifier? The only thing I know about both LSD's is they seem pretty damn tight and the car is pretty heavily modified from Japan so I'm not sure if it was just street use. A mechanic has advised that the whine and clunk are from the front LSD but it is "operational".
  2. Hi, Two questions, I bought Redline MTL for my R33 GTR gearbox oil. I've just read more carefully that most people are using MT-90, is MTL ok to use? Should I ask if its possible to exchange for MT-90 (which would be hard because I have to get it back there first )? I also need to do the diff oil and the front and rear of the car appears to have LSD's. I'm looking at Redline 75w90 from http://performancelub.com. But the Redline oil finder http://www.redlineoil.com.au/oil-finder.asp, recommends '80W140', which I haven't seen around at all. Would you recommend using 75w90 in GTR diff's? The front is aftermarket and has a clunk when changing gears, I am not sure if the rear is factory standard or not. I also found this post: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Re...il-t190062.html Which is slightly different again and does recommend 75w90 for GTR LSD's, I'm confused. Regards, Gareth P.S. I am trying out the Castrol 5w40 in the GTR engine.
  3. Item:Boss Kit Age:Unknown (came off the imported car) Condition:Perfect Price:Price-drop $65 for Boss kit. To Fit:R33 GTR Location:Melbourne Contact:PM or email somecsstudent(at)gmail.com Comments: Steering wheel sold!
  4. Yes, that could be the case. Weird, my front diff behaves the same as the back, the wheels spins in the opposite direction to the other wheel, and locks tight. One wheel cannot spin without the other one. So that would mean I do have an aftermarket front diff. Thanks for the help, hopefully its just an oil change that will fix the weird clunking sound and any other problems
  5. If you ever feel the need to find the engine number on a RB26?. It is: "Below the intake manifold (plenum), near the engine mount." (quoting R31Nismoid) "Its below the thermostat housing, which is where the bottom radiator hose connects to the block. U will need a torch to see where it is let alone trying to read the numbers." (quoting Barney) They are both referring to the same location.
  6. R31Nismoid, Barney, thanks for the replies. Please excuse my n00b mechanical knowledge of skylines I will add this info into the "what to look for when buying a skyline" thread as its pretty hard to find. EDIT: found the engine number, its where you say it is on a small plate. Its very difficult to see unless you have a large mirror you can use, or you go right under the car to find it.
  7. One less reason to panic . Do they have this list for imports as well? R31Nismoid, thanks for the reply. barney, are you sure? I mean that sounds different to what R31Nismoid said, this is for the RB26? Anyone else have an opinion of where it is? I will try looking again tomorrow, the engine number is written down on the roadworthy but I just want to double-check it for Vic-roads AND so when they try to find it we can offer some help (hopefully a little quicker than 45mins ). Regards, Gareth
  8. Ok, so something is wrong, but just to clarify, on a stock R33 GTR. Rear diff is a mechanical two way LSD. Front diff is a viscous LSD? I will get the diff checked out by a mechanic soon, hopefully its nothing major Regards, Gareth
  9. I've also found that the wheel is turning in the opposite direction of the other wheel if we jack up the back of the car and turn one of the wheels by hand with the car in neutral. I thought this happens to open-wheel diff's? Is this normal?
  10. Hi everyone, I've searched but I keep finding different info on where the engine number is on an RB26DETT for an R33 GTR. Some say near the gearbox on the bottom side of the motor, others say behind the turbo's, near the water pump on the inlet side? I can't seem to find mine, and Vicroads apparently want to see them for registration purposes. Does anyone know where an RB26 engine number is? (pictures would be great if you have any ) Regards, Gareth
  11. Hmm, we'll the diff was constantly locked while the car was jacked up in neutral, is this normal for a 2 way? I've read 2-way locks on acceleration and de-acceleration. It also has a bit of diff whine from either front or rear diff. I will have to organise for a good mechanic/diff specialist to see the diff at some point to make sure its ok. In regard to the power question, no idea, I've only had it for a week or so now. Still haven't found out if the turbo's are stock or not
  12. Hi, This question may seem a little vague because I don't have very much information I can give. My imported R33 GTR has arrived from Japan, its pretty heavily modified, the first mechanic suggested the front diff was aftermarket. However, when jacked up so the back wheels were free, the wheels spun by themselves, there seems to have been some kind of wind-up in there that had occurred. It was then found out that the wheels ONLY turn together, they seem to be completely locked. This seems like a bad thing for the car as I have advised it will be unstable at certain speeds or in wet weather, so I will have a mechanic work on it as soon as I can, however, is this kind of modification normal in Japan? I'm hoping its something I can remove rather than replace the entire diff... A quick search showed that this can be done by welding the diff to create a locker? Or adding something into the diff, a mini-spool ? My mechanical knowledge is not very good so sorry if the explanation is not clear. Regards, Gareth P.S. I can take photo's of under the car but I don't think it will help (or will it?)
  13. Tthe R33 GTS-T (same as the R33 GTR) fan shroud fitted, it was a little wider than the radiator for some reason. It needed minor modification, but was incredibly difficult to get into the tight engine bay and the huge steel braided hoses attached to the RHS top and RHS bottom of the radiator made things very difficult. So its in and hopefully that will get me the roadworthy now. There were no holes in the radiator to bolt anything in (some people suggested they existed, I didn't expect to find any)...so we made some brackets out of metal to hook from the bonnet area to the plastic. So radiator's in and hopefully that will get me the roadworthy now. Anyway else wondering if stock radiator shroud fits, it does, its just really damn hard to get in. Regards, Gareth
  14. Just a minor clarification, Castrol 0w30 is made in Germany, 5w40 is made in America for the European market so its probably the same thing, I'm probably going some Castrol 5w40 and some Redline gearbox oil for the cars first change Edit: Picked up the oil in person from performancelub.com, excellent customer service and him and his business partner really know there oils. Saved me a little on postage Regards, Gareth
  15. On PerformanceLub he stocks Castrol oils but is this the German version or the Australian version? All the links point to the American sites so I really can't tell. Just deciding between Mobil1 and Castrol at the moment for my oil change for an R33 GTR. This will be the first change since it left Japan so I have no idea what oil it was previously running.
  16. I found a cheap shroud from a wrecker which was slightly damaged, unfortunately it was close to fitting but it broke when I was trying to fit it. Its a very tight fit so I'm not sure if it will fit on the Greddy radiator, it *should* but its going to be hard. Thanks for the reply.
  17. Hi, I've been searching but found nothing so far. I have an R33 GTR, aftermarket radiator, no fan cover/fan shroud/radiator shroud. Roadworthy person wants a fan shroud, and the manufacturer of the radiator claims its ok with modification, I have found a R33 GTST radiator fan shroud but no idea if it will fit. Does anyone know if R33 GTST fan covers are the same as R33 GTR fan covers? Are the radiators the same? Or completely different? Regards, Gareth
  18. I bought my car on the 15th of March and its nearly ready! However, its only been waiting for compliance to finish for a few weeks. I think this is the third week now and plates *should* hopefully be there tomorrow. Paperwork was approved around last Friday I believe. Regards, Gareth
  19. Now that I know Greddy and Trust are the same company, I found the TRUST/Greddy manufacturer page (hosted off the TRUST website). http://www.trust-power.com says: " fan cover mod. required" It also has a size of H631.8×W385×D48 So its probably going to require a custom fan cover. I will have a look around and see what I can source. Thanks for the help everyone. If anyone else has a Greddy radiator like this please tell me if you did a shroud/fan cover....or different fans et cetera.
  20. Yes, I found that radiator on Nengun as well, just trying to check if its the same setup as my one, here is an engine pay picture attached. It also has a separate tank that you fill the radiator from. I did have some higher resolution pictures but I can't find them right now.... Do you think we are talking about the same radiator? It looks the same as http://www.nengun.com/trust-greddy/aluminium-radiator to me...which would solve the problem. Anyone have a fan shroud for sale?
  21. Hmm, I don't think that is going to help. I should have mentioned the question relates to a roadworthy in Victoria. So either I have to go to factory radiator with factory shroud to pass the roadworthy. Or I need a fan shroud for the Greddy radiator...
  22. Hi everyone, I currently have an aftermarket radiator, a silver coloured Greddy radiator that came with the car from Japan, and it has no shroud on the fan. This is a problem for the roadworthy as I cannot get one without having a fan shroud. Does anyone know if the stock fan shroud fit to this radiator at all? How can I get a shroud that fits this radiator? Regards, Gareth P.S. spent about 20 minutes searching the forums but not 100% sure which keywords I should be searching for. I haven't found any useful results yet....
  23. GIO did not explicitly state an Australian car alarm as a requirement, but I assume it was there in the fine print or I missed it. I will try to organise it when I find some funds
  24. Hi, I've been recommended some good Australian alarms, mainly the Mongoose M80g (I think thats the model name). However currently I seem to have a half-decent Japanese alarm, although I am not sure how decent it is. Its a Hornet 280g, a quick google found me this page with the information on it: http://google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2...=en&ie=UTF8 My alarm system looks like an older version of this, a 2 button remote which has a clearish coloured case, I have not identified the alarm as a Hornet 280g but this is the manual that was left in the glovebox when I bought the car from Japan. It appears to have a tilt sensor, and quite a loud siren, beyond that I only know that its manufactured by directed who also make Python and Viper. Does anyone know anything about this alarm? Is it a good alarm at all? Thanks, Gareth P.S. I am considering the Australian alarm install, I just need to find some money for it
