Hi, Just looking for some advice, I started importing my skyline 3.5 months ago and its been stuck in customs/quarantine for approx 2 weeks or more now (I've lost count!) Apparently, quarantine cleared it and sent it to "Holford" motors for washing and then they must book a second brief inspection to double check the car before it leaves. They have been planning to book this inspection for more than 5 business days, and my importer rings them daily to try to get it sorted out. Last time I heard it would be Monday this week, but they have been saying they will do it soon for more than a week. Has anyone else experienced this problem when importing from Japan? Is this normal for quarantine? Regards, Gareth

Sorry to drag up this old thread again, I'm pretty sure I'll be buying the Autowatch 446Premium, just wondering with the above comments when the new version of CATE was getting released? Otherwise I'll stick with the GiSMo / Directed product that does the SMS/send/control functionality, I just need to find good installers in Victoria. Regards, Gareth

Car Got Defected, Fined And Searched Again!
some_cs_student replied to Spunky Munky's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Aftermarket intercoolers are only illegal with pods, I assume you had pods as well? The engine bay is dirty I would recommend you confirm that as a minor defect. Number 3, aftermarket front bars are not illegal, have you cut into the front bar at all to fit the intercooler or piping? There is the ethical standards department for the police but it might not work too well if you did have illegal modifications Regards, Gareth -
300km/h Speedo Where To Get One?
some_cs_student replied to 260rsstagea's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
There was a group buy or trader selling the Nismo clusters (320Km/h) in white and black. There was also a group buy of white gauges that were 300Km/h and cheaper than the Nismo clusters. Have a look around the group buys and business traders sections. -
Xenon dash? Now thats a new one If your referring to Xenon headlights then yes thats factory standard on series 3. And the price is very cheap for a series 3, the red book still advises: $29,700 - $35,600 Is the average sale price for Series 3, while its: $26,100 - $31,600 For a series 2 in the redbook, prices have dropped so much So its cheap, but its white (very common), so the final decision is your choice

Parking On Public Holidays
some_cs_student replied to Modena's topic in General Automotive Discussion
The blue parking permits apply during semester, double check with the traffic group there but as for out-of-uni days they are free parking for anyone I used to park in those zones during exam time and blue was free -
After R31Nismoid's hint I finally found the information on page 8, VSI26.pdf from Vic Roads (thanks R31Nismoid). To repeat the Vic Roads guide: "Apart from any pillar or other part of the vehicles structure or fittings, there must be no internal obstructions to a drivers view through the swept area of the windscreen, to the right of the driver's position or 60degrees to the left of the drivers position, except for the area outside the primary vision area." Ok, so its plain illegal under "Repairs and obstructions to view" in the Vic Roads rules. Anyway, I'm looking at buying some gauge pods now to make the car more legal Regards, Gareth

Stop being so technical I meant that I read the page not all hyperlinks off the page, if i did that then I would never be able to stop reading But I'm reading it now.

Well if its not obviously listed here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=156269 Then I'd probably miss it, that threads changed since I read it so it may be there now. I didn't think I'd need to read the Vic Roads website after I bought my car from Japan but clearly I should have. I will take a look at the Vic Roads website and I'm looking at buying from http://www.mearcat.com.au/ Regards, Gareth

Is that another Vicroads law I didn't know about? I have A-pillar gauges at the moment (two of them) and have been wondering if I need to remove them or not. So they are illegal in Vic?

Wiring Up A Jl Duel Voice Coil Sub
some_cs_student replied to OGR88 R32's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
If ohms means increased resistance then why would you want it to be higher? Wouldn't that mean less power? How does it mean better sound quality? I'm still learning car audio so I'm curious... -

Vic Roads/cops: !black Window Tint Must Read!
some_cs_student replied to _handbrakies_ _ _'s topic in Victoria
I've heard this from a tinter few years ago, maybe this was the case in the past but the Vic Roads regulations are pretty clear now I'm curious about this tint that looks darker on the outside but is still legal, I do have darkest legal tint on my other car but its very light, I'm sure it could be a little darker My new car is pitch black tint on the back but lighter on the front windows, will look into fixing it when I get in trouble Regards, Gareth -
Vic Roads/cops: !black Window Tint Must Read!
some_cs_student replied to _handbrakies_ _ _'s topic in Victoria
My car came with very dark tint when I bought it from Japan, I think its well below 35%, is there an easy way to tell if its illegal? I assume that I have to pay extra to get the tint stripped off and re-tint the car if I get caught? -
Hi, Tried STI electronics but only found a soldering company. I've found this website: http://www.directed.com/Products/Security/Default.aspx# DEI appears to be a group of companies marketed under multiple brand names so I'm confused what people are referring to as "DEI". Is there a particular model? EDIT: just read the site and looks like there is one model called the 210C in the different brands, its roughly $100/year to gets the sms's and everything. It looks like all there brands are selling the same product for GPS tracking Or would you recommend the Autowatch 456 + CATE800 solution? Regards, Gareth

Fs: Immaculate S2 R33 Gt-r Vspec
some_cs_student replied to ras1983's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
Its 1997 and 1998 (series 3) models that came with Xenon lights. I'm not sure if they were a factory option before that but I haven't seen series 2's with Xenon's. Oh, and series 3 had the same series 2 front bar with a lower lip, red stitching, and a rear fog light (1 reverse light). -
Interesting, Mongoose is a well known brand but close to quiktrak price is expensive although the savings on the monitoring will be nice Autowatch was recommended in another thread, does anyone know much about them? I haven't heard good things about viper so far... Do DEI have a website? I found some results in google but I may be looking at the wrong website. Regards, Gareth

Hi, I know I've posted this before but things have probably changed in the past 6 months, I've had a look at this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...p;#entry3155248 And noticed there are some new GPS tracked alarm systems around. I'm currently deciding whether to go with QuikTrak, or go down the route of a cheaper GPS alarm system that calls me when somethings wrong. What GPS tracked alarm systems are around these days with the paging option? (I'm going quiktrak if the insurance company gives me a decent discount ). Also if you know good Melbourne based installers to talk to about the products that would be great. Regards, Gareth

Best to PM me because I don't check the forums too often. Everything was organised by PhoenixImports, the shipping company is NYK I believe. http://phoeniximportsaustralia.com/ As BeerBaron stated this does not include quarantine, customs or any other fees that may appear, this is JUST shipping from Japan. Also, the car is not arriving till this Saturday, I could give you more feedback if you PM me later next week, when I get to see the car in person. Regards, Gareth

Hi, I'm fine running everyone else's VIN number in FAST but I can't seem to run my own. My VIN number is: BNCR33xxxxxx My car is a 1998 R33 GTR and I have read on Nissan Silvia and here that not all VIN numbers work without inputting the model code, so I found: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...=FAST&st=20 Decoding The Skyline Model Code Mainly by FunkyMonkey, but there doesn't appear to be the R33 information on there. Is there a way I can run my own VIN number in FAST? Or do I need the model code? Can someone please send me an R33 GTR VIN number so I can run through the model code? Preferably Series 3. I tried looking through the FAST thread but didn't find many R33 GTR VIN's Does anyone know how I can lookup my VIN in FAST? Also, is it a bad idea to leave VIN numbers on the internet? I can't see any harm in it but I'm curious... Regards, Gareth

Apologies for digging up an old thread again, but I've tried PM'ing 8OO5TED and got no reply. I've tried twice now. I've also PM'ed GTRSOUL (Chris). So do we have a shannons contact? Has Matt (8OO5TED) or Chris (GTRSOUL) helped anyone recently? Oh, and yes I have read through the entire insurance thread. I've got a nice large list of insurance companies I need to try and contact soon though
