  1. ahhh, i never knew fcons could be piggy back. It looks like an old unit, so im leaning towards piggy? that would explain why its just been stuck on the kickpanel instead of in the ecu's place. check out the pic (i know it doesnt show heaps) and tell me what you think. if its a piggyback, i'll just pop it out for compliance/pits then boom, back in. (then out again if i have an accident... )
  2. ooohhh say it agaaainn. good stuff silvia, interesting read.
  3. Hey all, Not sure if this is the right section for this, its the closest i think, admins plz move if its not My R32 i bought at auction in Japan has a HKS PFC-FCON fuel computer. This is great, but i'm a bit concerned over its legality - i know theyre illegal full stop for road cars, and insurance is impossible. The way it is mounted shows it clearly to anyone, as its bolted to the passanger kickpanel. So i'm thinking i can a) try and move it under the carpet or hide it behind the kick (is this where factory ECUs are?) B) remove it (bad option, as boost is wound up) c) gut a factory ecu and hide the FCON in that. Is this doable? what would you recommend i do? Hiding it is the best option, but in the case of a big insurance claim, they'll find it and i'd be ****ed. blacky
  4. thought about container shipping, but heard alot of shit about cars falling onto each other etc, wasnt worth the risk.
  5. Sweet, predator! thanks for taking time out to do that, i know i'll be using it. just out of curiosity, how much was it just to have the new glass cut? and i take it that the reflective material is actually attached to the rubber backing not the glass?
  6. They're not illegal to OWN tomj, but get caught with one mounted/in use and you will be in trouble.
  7. forget that, start her up first chance you get! Dont you wanna hear that baby purr?? but seriously, you've got the right idea, get fresh liquids/filters in all round, then enjoy.
  8. instead of just whacking the shit out of the wheel to get it off, just grab each side and rock it left-right till it loosens. no risk of breaking your nose...
  9. Theyd be chirping non stop here in Perth...
  10. I'd be happy with $380, as long as they weld up the holes, not bog them up.
  11. I only knew my last one made it on when my agent rang me and confirmed it after he'd spoken with the shipping company. John: RO-RO
  12. Hey Sprinta, yeah i hope it gets on too.. sorry to hear yours hasn't made it yet, hope it comes soon. Really, even though its not really anyones fault, waiting 3-6months for a car that should be here sooner is a bit unfortunate. I probably am in the same boat as everyone else, i suppose we'll have to wait and see. What car you getting Sprinta? (don't say AE86... )
  13. Just because tis the easiest option i'd pull the button assembly and just see if anything jumps out at you as wierd. Have a play around and see if anything changes.
  14. I'm no expert, but have you checked for leaks along the intake system? If unmetered air is getting into the system after the AFM, then that could make it run shit. A celica I owned had a crack in the intake plumbing and the bastard would not idle, almost dying all the time and bunny-hopped on take off.
  15. Hey Tyler, Its not on the boat yet, it wont leave till later this month. From what I was told, my car will be shipped via either Mitsui OSK, NYK or NYKLine (not sure about last one). So this suggests that there may be more than one ship arriving per month, or that the different companies alternate the route.. but i'm sure Geoff knows what hes talking about and what he told you is accurate. You're also right that alot of private imports are being shunted of boats due to the new cars coming in... maybe i just got lucky?? To be fair though, its only been booked, not confirmed, but its 90% certain it'll be here January (touch wood). Hope your car gets on mate, nothing worse than waiting another month for your new toy! blacky
  16. If you just want it regged, then go the swap-swap method. The Jap belts are perfectly good. But i cant really offer any contacts for you as I dont know what outlets u have in tassie, perhaps the equivalent of Supercheap/Repco, or maybe even order direct from Klippan?
  17. Hey Ezy, why not just disconnect the factory one and run that to the new one? That way only one gauge is feeding of the vacuum supply...
  18. That doesnt sound too bad GTR V, not dissimilar to a 15yo import. I'd imagine there would be a shitload more paperwork and red tape that comes with it though? Reading up on personal imports on DOTAR's website makes it sound like a nightmare.
  19. If I was in your position, I'd just put the r32 items in (if they fit) and get it over the pits with them (because they are most likely going to be ADR compliant, as its an Aus released car...) and then swap the old ones back in. How easy do you guys have it over there?! Don't you have to do intrusion bars, child points etc?? blacky
  20. If you're talking about importing one, I cant see it getting any cheaper - the pirce has skyrocketed towards the end of this year with the demise of the 15 yr rule, and because they are *relatively* rare and fewer will be arriving in Australia (whos gonna bring a 15yo car thru SEVS?) there isnt really any reason to drive the price down... I can only see people asking high amounts for them.
  21. Just adding my experience, my car was bought in november, is a july build and has just gotten on a december boat. No problems as far as i could tell just went straight on.
  22. good luck mmmgtir, but remember that VSS did put out a bulletin warning consumers to not count on being able to import 1990 cars under the 15 year rule. def worth a try though!
  23. from fatz I believe this is the one reason why p-platers always seem to feature so heavily when it comes to road carnage and fatal crashes - when you've never had the freedom and power a car provides before, when your mates (who either have their p's too or are getting them soon) are in the back seat cheering you on, when your dying to see what 150kmh feels like your bound to be doing irresponsible and unsafe things on the road. God knows I did it, throwing the old camira around like a toy... but after a year or two of driving, the novelty kind of wore off, and now i'd much rather maintain the car and just have it working well rather than racing it at every opportuniy. not in all cases, but in alot its a novelty thing : get first car=be stupid until the novelty wears off. Oh, and I've got to say power restrictions don't seem to be that well thought out - a 93 Holden Barina can go 150kmh and slam into a pole, just like a 300kw R33 can....and theres a pretty big power difference there. Just look at 250cc bike riders - the size/power restriciton there doesnt stop them having accidents. (although to be fair, they would probably be more likely to have one if they were on a bigger bike) Blacky
