  1. WOO HOOOO ! ! ! ! I Went with a cheap 2nd Hand gearbox, which is in, and it feels FINE ! Fingers crossed ! Looks like I've got an R33 GTR gearset, and a GTS-T casing + output shaft + spares galore for sale. Make Me an offer !
  2. Open (Shifter in 5th) Engaged (Trying to go 5th-->Reverse) Like Cowie said - if it's just the spring, You can get the assembly out the side of the box. If it's something more mangled, U might have to open up the top of where the shifter goes in.. . . . There's 4 regular bolts, and 2 pain in the ass Torx-Head bolts to get the shifter cover off the top of the extension housing. If you unbolt the X-Member and drop the back of the gearbox a lil' with a jack, You might get access to it all. I'll take a pic tonight if I remember, while I'm putting My 'box back in. Of course - You do know that there's no Synchro on Reverse, right?? ? ? If the dog-teeth are lined up wrong, U won't get it into Reverse. Putting it into 1st and driving forward a few millimetres generally sorts it out. - Cheers !
  3. Looks good ! Put the cooler in the return-line, after it's left the engine bay, before it goes back into the tank. This is where the fuel will have the highest temperature, so You can get maximum heat rejection through the cooler. That also means it won't matter if there's some restriction in the cooler, since it won't affect peak flow to the rail. The stock return into the main tank should be adequate, since You won't be pumping much more than the in-tank 040 does now. Personally, I'd Y-Piece the two returns together into the main tank, that way the warm fuel from the rail doesn't heat up the surge tank, which has a relatively small heat-sinking capacity compared to the main tank. Make sense?
  4. On MY car, it's a bad connection somewhere in the speedo. It gets the signal to run the speedo ok most of the time, but it's prone to dropping-out the signal in the wire to the ECU and HICAS computers. I can tell, because the AVC-R takes its speed signal from the wire at the ECU, and when the AVC-R loses the speed signal, the HICAS light is sure to come on within a couple of minutes. It also messes with the variable valving in the Steering rack. (i.e. it goes full-hard or full-soft)
  5. If you've got the steadiest hand this side of the neuro-surgery theatre, then yes, you may be able to deepen the existing grooves the 0.5mm before U hit Canvas. Give it up man, the tyres are finished.
  6. Haha - ummm, yeah ! ! No more cooked pads, and no more super-heated rear discs. With no ducting, I got the rear discs so hot, they warped/bulged out between all the cooling-fins, brake-shuddering like nobody's business ! ! That was on a DAMP/WET track too! Now it's all good, the rears don't seem to suffer as badly as the fronts (also with 2 ducts), which only last 3 flat-out laps at Winton (with R-Compounds on a 37deg day)
  7. Twin ducts - long ones feed through a slot I cut into the rear dustshields, short ones feed towards calipers. From Behind: EBC "Charcoal stuff" pads, which I cooked before doing ducts: I've got a series of "how-to" pics I took when I cut slots in the rear dustshields to duct air into the rear discs, Hassle Me if You want it posted (it's too late, I'm too tired).
  8. My Exedy Organic has so performed flawlessly, and it's seen 1.5 trackdays, about 15,000km and 6 months - maybe more (not sure. How it looks today: This is the bellhousing after 6 months - look Ma, not dust ! My pressure plate assembly is the same used for the brass puck clutch, rated at 70% higher clamping force than stock.
  9. Just in the process of cleaning-up the 2nd hand 'box, to install this week/end. Pics of the old, dismantled box: 5th/Reverse Lockout open: 5th/Reverse Lockout ENGAGED: H-Pattern the sits below the gearstick . . . . who wants to do a big one inside the cabin - Ferrari Style? ! ! Busted Selector Fork (Notice the worn-smooth bit, where it's jumped-up onto the selsctor Ring when it jammed): It's even got the rib broken-out: Hmmmm, What's missing here: 1st/2nd Fork on the left - notice how it's NOT BROKEN ! ! More Brokenness: I keep on finding bits & Chunks of Aluminium throughout the 'box, not cool. Apparently that's ok though, coz the gear teeth are so hard it just squashes 'em and spits 'em out into the oil ! (hence the T-1000 oil)
  10. It is the Nation's premier power track afterall . . . . Hehe, I don't know if I'd bother turning up even if I HAD money or a gearbox in My car ! ! Neeeed POWWWWWWWAAAAAAHHHHH ! ! hmmm, manifold pressure compensating Fuel regs on ebay for $120, looks interesting . . . . .
  11. Many good points from all sides, it's a hard line to tread, getting close racing between models, without getting crazy with the rulebook (late 80's->90'sGroup A anyone?). My 2c is that you can't make hard & fast generalised rules on bodywork, tyres, brakes & such things - otherwise you'll get 1 particular model dominating, 'coz it fits the rules best (e.g. RX7 in I.P, R32 in GrpA). Weight, tyre width, engine capacity & aero are where rules can realistically get laid down, the trick being to circumnavigate the politics of hobbling 1 car which is winning 'coz of clever engineering & big CA$H. Glad I'm not a rulemaker!
  12. Thanks Siks, beats the hell outta rebuilding mine for over $4k ! I've gotten onto a 2nd-handie for a grand ! :laughing-smiley-014:
  13. An interesting concept . . . . could the hip-pocket possibly support the annual Bathurst pilgrimage, Tassie trip, AND a Phillip Island trackday (or 2) in the space of 2-3 months? hmmmm . . . .
  14. Bad news for my rebuild - SAU Vic thread on My rooted Gearbox
  15. Yeah. 4th and 5th Synchro's are pathetic. 1st, 2nd & 3rd are okay, I've heard people get good results from a gutful of Redline lightweight shockproof. I've been quoted V.good prices to do a bearings & Synchros rebuld by 2 different places, food for thought.
  16. Well, the bad news is in . . . . . Nissan have superseded the parts I need (or something), the upshot being that I'd need to buy complete cluster sub-assemblies, which would put the total rebuild bill over $4000. I shit You not. P.s. Competition Gearboxes have been great, & both they & 360 Gearboxes can still do a bearings & Synchros rebuild at SURPRISINGLY good prices. I'd suggest anyone with 4th gear selection problems think about a preventative rebuild.
  17. I've got the Exedy organic, done 2 track days with it and 5 months driving (10->15,000km) - it still feels as good as when it went in (after it bedded-in, that is). I've got 200ishRwKw, but probably more torque than most similarly tweaked GTS-Ts, 'coz my AVC-R lets me run 18psi through the midrange, and bleed it down to 13psi as the injectors hit 100% duty cycle. The pedal feels maybe . . . 20% firmer than stock - and I think the stock clutch felt too soft, so it's GREAT! I think the 70% higher clamping pressure of the pressure plate assembly that came with it had a LOT to do with how well it holds. I've still got the stock clutch under My bed, just incase I ever want a "Jims's clutch" built . . . .
  18. NOOO changeover boxes for R33 GTS-T there, and apparently they're not too fond of doing parts - i.e. whole 'box or bust.
  19. Yeah, I'm getting the impression that 4th synchro is piss-weak in this 'box. Seems to be a common complaint. It's making Me think I should've looked harder at a gearbox conversion, but then I really don't want My car off the road for a month while I sort something out - Life sans-wheels SUCKS !
  20. This may blow a few minds, so Brace your bad selves . . . How about . . . early October? Sydney trip? That could either start, or finish with 4 days at Australia's temple of speed. Mount Panorama That's right kiddies - I'm talkin the main game, the big enchilada, the jewel in the crown . . . . The Bathurst 1000 ! I've been up 5 years running (I think) and I'm yet to be disappointed - although the law of averages says We're due for a WET weekend (I've been blessed so far). Add to that track time at Oran park, maybe Eastern Creek, and hopefully a "speed off the streets" day at wakefield, and it'd be MEGA ! Tough part would be getting a decent fang over the mountain - and it's SUCH an awesome ribbon of tarmac, who can resist? ! (I'll see if I can get some footage on youtube one day, pleeze remind Me) If Youse all want in, it'd better be decided within the next month or so, 'coz I'm due to get the advanced booking forms for the campground ANY DAY NOW, and it's very much first-in, best dressed. (need numbers & some ca$h to book campgrounds)
  21. Hey djr81, Man You are gettin' SUCH a raw deal there ! ! ! Even in the ol' days of early 90's WIN TV back home in Echuca, the F1s still came in at 11:45 (or 10:45 if U were lucky) every Sunday night! Except for the Canada, Brasil, and (some other) GP's - and that was all down to time-zones. I think Channel 10 is starting up the ol' channel 9 trick, of seeing how little it can spend on it's coverage, and how late it can push-back the broadcasts before the F1 fans stop watching, and start hating on 'em. Has anyone else noticed, how much less emphasis the other motorsports get, now that the V8's have left the station? Oh: first practice in Bahrain is on, 1. Trulli . . . . . . 5 Laps, 1:35.500 2. R.Schumi . . . 5 laps, 1:35.573 3. N.Heidfeld . . .7 Laps, 1:35.969 etc. etc. Goto Formula1 . com - Live timing
  22. ummm, FRP, is also known as GRP, sort of, . . . . not sure how to say this.. . . IT IS FIBREGLASS DUDE ! Sorry. just had to vent . . . (Note: FRP=Fibre Reinforced Plastic, GRP = Glass Reinforced Plastic) Unless You were talkin' 'bout CarbonFire Reinforced Plastic . . . .
  23. Is anyone from around Mullgrave/Glen Waverley/Dandenong going? I probably won't have a gearbox-in-car by then, but wouldn't mind going along for a chat/meal/drink, so, . . umm, . . . aaahh.. . . Can I bum a lift? If I have any money to buy dinner by then.. . . . . (stupid dumb gearbox)
  24. Ditto. AVESCO/TEGA etc have made an attempt at slimming down the pointscore this year, and making it worth passing, but it's still a confusing cauldron of points. Interesting comparison between what people complain about with the V8's Vs. F1: V8's it's "Bloody processions, cars are too closely matched" Vs. F1's stereotypical whinge of "The lead cars just bugger off into the distance, they're too far apart, and hardly any passing." NASCAR, anyone ? (Puts on John Deere cap)
  25. DUDE! I'm almost GLAD it won't be Me trying to hang-on to that thing down into Dandenong Corner ! Good luck to everyone all the same! (I'll still be broke then, but an outside chance to come down & lend a hand)
