  11. "hehehe...its like kissing a peanut! MWA!" Quote (simpsons) thats wrong!
  12. strut braces help make the car more rigid. you said what i said, just in a different way. however, this isnt always true. example, looking back to the 97' season of F1, the cars with the "softest" chassis (being the poorer teams; Prost etc..) would always be in the last half of the grid, supporting your statement. however, when it would rain, the slower cars in the dry suddenly became competitive cause the chassis would flex enough to transfer weight to which ever wheels were under load, resulting in more "mechanical" grip. this theory isnt my own, i actually heard it from Martin Brundle during commentary of one of those particular races. the basic pricipals are the same for road going cars as well, even though you dont see as much of difference as compared to F1.
  13. sorry, i got my wires crossed. :innocent: strut braces will reduce chasis flex. i feel so stupid! however, they will help. :uh-huh: yeah, he worked on very old fiats! i guess that says it all! :chairshot i guess it depends on what kind of setup your looking for. if your after a softer setup, for say wet weather (racing) or general road use, then strut braces wont do much good at all. but if your after the opposite effect, then bolt everything you can on to it!
  14. im gonna send my entry off on friday morning, how will i know that you guys recieved it? are you gonna send a confirmation PM or what? i know of two R31's that will be entering from canberra. both are quite neat.
  15. yeah, just be carefull of lowering the arse, cause you'll chew out your tyres at an alarming rate. bloodly IRS! but would you have it any other way? :Pimp2:
  16. strut braces and sway bars will significantly reduce the amount of body roll you will get, but not elimate it. i have a friend who has been working on rally cars for about 25 yrs or so, (he's not young!), and he says that with just front and rear strut braces, you will get a 25% improvement in handling on top of what you had already. true? you guys decide. i run coilovers in the rear of my 33 and some kind of 'super duper' spring in the front (not sure what kind) with the stock shocks, and this works a treat. if anything the arse end of the car is too stiff and doesnt get enough body roll, so to combat this, i use 265 tyres on the back, which makes a difference. i think the only time you'll be unhappy with alot of body roll is low speed competitions. in my experience, having body roll at mid-high speeds isnt always a bad thing. cause the chasis just rolls over and sits on the bump stops on the outside wheels, transfering the weight of the car to the tyres on the outside of the corner, resulting in more grip. say what you like about this theory, but it worked for me. having said that, i much prefer my current setup and wouldnt swap it for the above! i'd start with the shocks and springs and work from there. strut braces will be a cheaper option, but you'll notice a bigger increase in cornering ability with the springs and shocks.
  17. G'day all! i recently purchased the boost controller and hand controller which everyone here is raving about. after reading all that has been writen (almost!), im glad i did buy it. however, all that everyine has writen here means very little to me as i am not very mechanically minded (thankgod im not installing it!!!). is it hard to tune and do you need to have it on a dyno while your doing it or can you have a passenger do it while driving?
  18. damn! well.....atleast your front bar is repairable!
  19. good god! james actually posted something! people this is big, this is really big! :jump: Friday night was cool, for about 15min! then it sort of slid down hill.
  20. yet another toy car! is it matchbox spec or hotwheels spec? jks welcome. you should also speak to R31DET, he has a spray painter friend who is pretty good. he might be able to work something out for you.
