  1. Not in Buster's case, he was getting wheelspin way past 60'. Incorrect suspension will do that to you. I will admit it was on a pretty piss poor surface, I reckon it would be 1/3 second faster at WSID with the same set up. Then there is a good 1/2 second in the right suspension setup. There is more to good 1/4 time than just the engine.
  2. We still have the R32 pump, I have been waiting for it to die but it just keeps on rattling. We use a billet alloy rear rack eliminator made by our race team fabricator. I pulled the globe, no HICAS warning light then.
  3. You mean you don't have a decent ambient air feed? Surely not. Nah drivers are famous, team members are anonymous (even the team manager).
  4. Nope not that simple, you really need to have a look at them side by side. I removed the complete HICAS system from ours, it weighs heaps. Wait until you pick up one of the solenoids (there are 3 of them). After you have driven the car with no HICAS, you will never want to go back. As for the cooler I plumbed it in on the return line from the power steering rack to the reservoir. It's not under much pressure there. If you put it in before the rack it has to contain the full power steering pressure. Hope that helps some more
  5. Our Stagea has no HICAS, does yours?
  6. Who makes the HotBits shocks?
  7. Hi Bl4ck32, They are geared differently (check the pulley sizes), I guess because the R33 pump doesn't have to run the rear rack as well. Be carefull where you disconnect the rear rack plumbing as the power steering cooler runs of the return line from the rear rack solenoids. Hope that helps
  8. Nah, it's a 2wd R33 GSTS with severe suspension problems, can't be compared to a 4wd GTR. But you know that Steve, you are just being obstreperous.
  9. Oh that's pretty dumb (your word, not mine), we have a 2 fans in the dyno room that cover intercooler/radiator, oil cooler and engine air inlet. The reason I asked is because ....... well if you know how Shoot Out mode works, you already know why I asked. How many do you want? I have no interest in dyno queens and 1/4 mile is boaring. You know Circuit Racing is what we do and engines are a very small part of that package. My cars have won races all over Australia. Two of them hold the current class lap records, one at Sandown and one at Oran Park. Another has the category lap record at Wakefield Park. We had the category and class lap record at Eastern Creek until last meeting, but we will get it back. Won Bathurst outright twice, won classes 3 times, finished top ten on 8 occasions. I think we still have the Improved Production car record at Surfers Paradise and the Sports Car lap record at Lakeside. Sandown, let's see, 2 outright wins, 3 classes ................. Shooooot, how many more times do you want me to show my true skills?
  10. Spot on, the only thing I can add is when doing a solid conversion on an RB25 cylinder head we use GTR valves, GTR valve guides, GTR valve spings (std or aftermarket), GTR collets, GTR retainers and (obviously) GTR buckets.
  11. We have a ball bearing hi flowed RB25DET turbo on our RB20 DET and it makes 225 rwkw (~380 bhp) at 1.3 bar (19 psi). It makes 165 rwkw (~300 bhp) at 0.9 bar (13 psi). Hope that helps
  12. Yep and just use the RB20 wastegate actuator for its higher boost setting.
  13. I have heard of reducing the fuel pressure to lean off an engine that is running too rich. Usually with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, but I guess you could do it with a cheap bleed valve. In fact you could probably connect an electronic boost controller in between the plenum and the fuel pressure regulator and move the fuel pressure around to over come any rich spots. You can't do that for lean spots thoughs. So, I am confused, where does the extra pressure (it's really boost ) come from? :headspin:
  14. So the air coming out of the dyno cooling fan was at 52 degrees? That's a hot day for 11th June (winter), even in Perth.
  15. Give it a clean first, we use spray on brake cleaner as it doesn't leave residue. The hot wires get dirty and send poor signals to the ecu. Happens a lot on cars with POD's,expecially if they are over oiled. Most times a good clean fixes it.
  16. Hi Evan, we don't use Wolfs, I suggest you have a chat to Steve-SST he uses them all the time. I can't say that I have heard of Wolfs having the problem that you describe.
  17. The testing is neither complex nor expensive. If it means a cheaper total cost for an engine I would do it every time.
  18. I honestly don't know, I have never used a DJetro version. All the cars with them I have seen, use map sensors, not AFM's. I have used the PFC Boost control kit with all sorts of turbos, singles and twins. It enables you to hold the wastegate shut until you reach the target boost, like other electronic boost controllers and the twin valve manual controllers. So it enables more boost, that means more torque and it will enable the boost to come on as early as the turbo will allow. Does that answer your question?
  19. I can't say they gave ME a hard time, the problem is they refuse to recognise the FACT that Nissan (and most other car manufacturers) do rolling updates. If they run out of early model parts they use later model parts, this happens most frequently at the end of the model run. If the early model part is approved and the later model part is approved, then having the later model part on the early model chassis should not be a problem. Let's face it if I went along to Nissan to buy a (superceded) spare for an early model, I would get the later model part anyway. It's a REALITY and DOTARS simply refuses to recognise it. I just had the bad luck for it to be a door, it could have been a windscreen wiper, or a radiator, or a turbo, or a gearbox etc. No one would have cared about them. I guess it could have been worse, it might have been all 4 doors.
  20. The R32 GTST weighs 1245 kgs and the trailer 410 kgs. Previously we have used a number of Foulcans and Commondoors. The closest thing to the Stagea was our Foulcan Waggon, it weighed 1610 kgs had 170 kw and was an auto. Having tried several manuals we found the auto to be much better, the lack of an LSD was a problem occasionally and ABS would have been nice. The Foucan was rated to tow 2,200 kgs with electric trailer brakes. The Stagea weighs 1,658 kgs, it's an auto, 4wd, it has ABS and LSD. The standard Power is 173 kw. The torque is a bit less than the 4 litre Foulcan, but nothing a few mods won't fix easily. If we tie off the tow bar mounts to the rear subframe mounts it should have higher integrity than the Foulcan with it's live rear axle and leaf springs. So unless there is some inherent lack of rear chassis strength in the Stagea, I can't see a problem.
  21. Hi guys this is a collection of quotes I have written over the last few months on my experiecnes with buying a Stagea, getting it complied under RAWS and then registering it in NSW. I hope there are some learnings for others in there... Hi CoolPC, it doesn't always go as planned. I purchased ours on 6th May, it left Japan on the 12th May and arrived on the 3rd June, which was 1 day late against the Kiwi Car Carriers shipping schedule. Quarantine held it for 5 working days until they released it. It took 2 days to travel the 10 k's and get from the dock in Brisbane to the compliance shop. Then it spent 10 working days getting physically complied as promised. But DOTARS took another 17 working days to complete the paperwork as it had a later model LHS rear door, which eventually had to be changed. It then took 4 working days to get from Brisbane to Sydney and arrived here on 22nd July. So if you get yours in under 2 months, registered and ready to go, consider yourself lucky. Yep all that is absolutely correct, except ours was an early 1997 build. My problem is why did DOTARS insist on crash testing (at a cost of ~$25K) when the later model doors (with better side intrusion bars) are already approved? It is simply illogical. If I need to replace a door now and buy a new one from Nissan, I will get a later model one, as they don't make the earlier one any more. All it needed from DOTARS was a recognition of the fact that vehicle manufacturers do rolling updates. So newer model parts will appear in earlier model cars. If the earleir model is approved and the later model is approved then the rolling update should be approved. What it means is, anyone who imports a Stagea from now on will have to pay back their share of the $25K that was waisted on the crash test. In my case, I had to waist $500 on a used earlier model (unsafer) door and then get it painted. As I said, totally illogical. Hi Gary, good to see another Stagea on the go. Mine arrived 5 weeks ago and is still getting complied. Typical Nissan problem with rolling updates, where they use some new model parts at the end of the run of old models. In my Stagea's case that was a rear left hand door, it has the later model intrusion bars and all the other 3 doors have the early model intrusion bars. So it is stuck in no man's land with the beaurocrats at DOTARS. Hopefully it will be sorted out next week. We have a race meeting to go to next weekend and I need the Stagea tow car. Hi Guys, having finished with the DOTARS bureaucracy, I am now dealing with the effen RTA bureaucrats. It's all my fault, I made a big mistake, I paid for my greenslip on line Me = "It is good enough for renewing, so it must be good enough for first time rego?". RTA = "Didn't you know that when registering a car for the first time you have to have the original of the greenslip with you". Me = "Well the NRMA let me do my greenslip on line and one of their questions is "is this a first time rego?". I have the screen printed receipt with the policy number and the receipt number and the vin number of vehicle". RTA= "No, the receipt number from the NRMA and the policy number aren't good enough." "There are other numbers on the ORIGINAL greenslip that we need." Me= "I have the NRMA on my mobile now, what numbers do you want?" RTA = "listen, I told you, we need the original of the greenslip." Me ="Why?" RTA = "That's the system" So now I have to wait until the original greenslip is posted out to me by the NRMA. Time for an update.............. Two weeks working interstate, so down to the RTA with the ORIGINAL greenslip. RTA= "All the paperwork is now in order" Me = "Great where's my rego?" RTA = "Bad luck, you have been selected for a random inspection" Me = "No problems, let's go" RTA = "Sorry, but you have to book it in" Me = "Next Saturday?" RTA = " Sorry the Inspection Stations are only open Monday to Friday" Me = "But I work" RTA = "So XXXXday, at YYYYYYYYY" Me = "Then they will register it?" RTA = "On no, you will have to come back here to register it" Me = "That means a whole day off work" RTA = "Sorry, that's the system Time for the last update..... Took the Stagea along for it's Identity Check. Waited for 30 minutes in the que, I had an appointment but that doesn't matter. Only took them 40 minutes to agree the engine and chasis numbers. Asked question " Must have been my bad luck getting a random inspection?' RTA Inspector, "Oh no, we inspect ALL RAWS Imports for their first rego". "Why" "It's the system" Went back to local RTA, waited in the que for 45 minutes. They finally took my money and I now have a fully complied and registered Stagea

  23. I have never owned a "standard" car in my life, every one of them has had mods. If the cops pulled me over I would argue the point, nicely of course. If they insisted, I would get the car inspected, but you don't have to do it right there and then. I always had plenty of time to change over the bits that needed changing. That's why I never sell or throw out the standard parts. An example, I go for the inspection, the inspectors says "that's a standard airfilter, why did the police officer give you a ticket?" " I have no idea, maybe it was the sticker on it that he didn't like." Hint, I always have little things on the standard parts, a little sticker, a different clamp, a blue hose, anything that I can point to as being the reason. I always keep the receipt from the inspection station, next time I get pulled over I show the officer the receipt. "I have already had this checked and the inspector passed it, if you make me go and needlessly get it checked again I am going to sue you for harrassment and loss of a days pay while I go. It''s your decision officer". They always back down. The only thing you have to be careful of is cameras, never ever give them permision to take a picture of your car. Remember it's all a game, don't take it seriously or personally and never get mad.
  24. We have 4 cars with "standard" Power FC's with boost control kits, 2 X GTR race cars 1 X GTST race car and 1 X R34 GTT road car. They work perfectly, the cars drive "nice" like the standard ECU. There are plenty of threads on this subject, do a search and you will find all the info you need.
