I've heard a lot of people say Top Gear is better. But after watching the show tonight (yes my opinion is based on one show), I would have to agree with you. They only spent at most about 20mins of an hour long episode actually testing cars, the rest is a sort of light entertainment. Also they compared a sports car (Monaro) against a luxury car (300C) and threw in a sporty luxury car that is way more expensive than both of them (Jag S-type?). Not only that but they did the comparisons on a beach. Sure it made for great photo opportunities, but who the hell is going to drive these cars on sand?

WERD. I have owned both and I can say the r31 is better in every aspect. I heard that the rb30 cost Holden heaps to buy off nissan so they had to skimp on everything else. Having owned both I beleive it. Build quality is crap in vls. Also an r31 handles much better than the vl. The vl often feels like you're driving on ice compared to the r31. Some people think they don't look good. IMO they can look just as good if not better than a vl.

My parents only had autos when i was learning to drive. I got a couple of lessons in a manual car, but gave up and got my p's in an auto. When I got my p's I only had to be on p's for a year. So after the year was up I got my full license and bought my manual skyline. It didn't take too long to get used to a manual, especially since I had already done some lessons. So I'd say go for Plan 1. Especially since you are quite likely to make little mistakes when your on your p's. You don't want to do that in a nice car. TracidTrax you must be lucky. Every one I know has had little dings while on their p's.

If it is a 2JZ twin turbo then it may be worth somewhere near $21k. But you should still be able to bargain him down a bit. But as Maxx said, its probably a 1JZ and the dealer has made a mistake referring to it as a 3L. If it is a 1JZ, then I still stand by my original opinion that it is well overpriced, even with all those mods. Also you would probably be better off trading a non-turbo 34 in for a GT-T. Thats my opinion, but there is a thread on this topic in the Naturally Aspirated section, where you will find other peoples opinions.

There's no ultimate on the central coast either. Yes all majors have 98RON premium, 95RON normal premium and 91RON ULP. Mobil's normal one is Synergy 6000, which is 96RON. Their ULP is 92RON, it seems they like to add an extra RON just to be different.

I agree, at $21k the Soarer seems a bit overpriced. Check on carsales.com.au. I'm sure there are plenty of SC300/Soarers in similar condition that are much cheaper than $21k. EDIT: Sorry just read posts properly and had another look at the Soarer pic, it does look like a fmic. A turbo 2JZ Soarer would be quite nice.

Fuel tanks get a build up of crap over the years. A friend of mine had a vl turbo that used to run really rough whenever the fuel gauge went below 1/4. Thats the worst I've ever seen. You could fix it by taking the fuel tank out and cleaning it out, but that is just sooooo much effort, much easier to just keep a nice amount of fuel in there.

Car manufacturers give recommended tyre pressures that are best for the smoothest ride, not the best handling. If you like a nice smooth ride, put them to 32psi. If you want the best handling put it up high like Duncan said around 38-42psi. I always have my tyres at about 38psi.

Good work ringing Nissan, you went further than I was prepared to go. But in the long run it probably would have been the easier thing to do. It will be interesting to hear what they have to say about E5. I'm pretty sure they won't have a problem with it. But if they do it would be good to hear what Shell has to say about it, needless to say they wouldn't be happy about a car manufacturer giving out warnings about their fuel. ^_^

SteveL: I believe that the Biofuels Taskforce would use CSIRO findings in their reports. I can't see how you'd think otherwise. If the Chief of Energy Technology at CSIRO is one of the people making the report, I don't think he's going to allow questionable information that he didn't get from his own organisation. It would defeat the purpose of him being a member of the taskforce. No, Nissan is not on the panel. They don't need a rep from every car maker. Only one to represent them all. That is the norm for government taskforces. And your missing the point about the scaremongering. There is quite a bit of it going on, as you can see in this thread, many people do not understand the effects of ethanol and how it can possibly be used safely. As to science finding out later that there could be unforeseen effects, you have to remember there is nothing new about ethanol. It has been added to fuel in this country since the 1920s.

Yes it does, I have already explained this. Read my above posts, I don't like repeating myself. Like I said the only stance Nissan has against ethanol is against E10. I can't exactly comment on something you apparently heard from some guy, and I'm not going to ring Nissan to find out for sure. I really don't care that much. But if you read my posts you will see the point proven that most manufacturers are just being overly cautious in regards to ethanol, and that E10 will run just fine on most engines, and E5 is fine on almost any engine.

Read this: As you can see, not everyone knows the distinction. As I said I cannot find anything from Nissan about E5. They may be being purposely ambigous. But then again they may not have had a chance to give their opinion on E5, as it has only been released recently. Their discouragement of E10 fuel is from March 2004, which is a couple of years after ethanol was first introduced in those amounts in fuel.

My main argument was that there is a clear distinction between E5 and E10 fuel, as some people seemed to think they were the same thing, and had the same effects. The report I quoted and attached was made for the PM's office, not by the PMs office. It was a report made by the Biofuels Taskforce. This taskforce includes: * Dr Conall O'Connell, Deputy Secretary, Department of Environment and Heritage * Dr David Brockway, Chief, Division of Energy Technology, CSIRO * Dr John Keniry, Chairman Ridley Corporation Limited, and * Mr Max Gillard, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Toyota Technical Centre, Asia Pacific Australia. Also personally I would trust the NRMA, they are a motoring body, their sole prupose is to provide valuble information for motorists. However I do agree with you that it would provide questionable value on a street driven car. In order to gain a performance bonus from using the fuel, you would have to get your car tuned on 100RON fuel. Which would mean you would have to use it exclusively, and there aren't currently enough servos that stock this fuel to make this feasible. All I'm trying to do is correct some generalised and often incorrect statments made about ethanol blended fuels.

So do you think its possible that joy-riders took it? I wouldn't think they would in a car that stands out so much but it is possible. Just in case it might be a good idea to check the areas people usually dump cars on the coast. If you haven't done it already.

I'd like to see some proof of this statement. It seems to me your arguing that the amount of ethanol doesn't matter. Where did you get this information from? The amount of ethanol does matter a great deal. If you don't beleive me put some Optimax Extreme in your car and run it for a year. Then put a 20% blend in and run it for a year. Trust me, you'll notice a difference. Like I said, I have heard that even 10% is fine for most cars, and 5% will have no difference at all. I'll try to find some info that supports this, but in the meantime here is some basic information about ethanol so you won't be so scared of it. I know the media has run a pretty bad scare campaign but I 'm pretty sure you have nothing to be afraid of. This is from the RAA: From the NRMA:

The only actual statement I've heard from Nissan is that they don't recommend the use of E10 fuel. As far as I know they have no policy on E5 fuel and everything I've ever heard about E5 says its safe for just about any car, if not every car.

Sorry to hear about any car being stolen. I know its not a good feeling, eespecially when you've put lots of time and effort into it. I'll keep an eye out for it. I don't think I'll have any trouble recognising it. Just out of curiosity, what kind of security system did you have on it?

Yes well, hopefully this shortage will make people realise that bp ultimate is not some magic formula created by the gods, it is much the same as any other 98ron fuel. my 2c

That thing works very well. The other one is almost useless for translating japanese in comparison. It only does ok with languages similar to English, such as German.

The only help I can give is that the airbag light came on in my mates VT commy. All it needed was a new fuse so I suggest you check those first.
