  1. Fairly straight forward, Silicon chip have published an article and designs to do this: http://www.siliconchip.com.au/cms/A_108910/article.html Basically takes the audio from the microphone/pzt sensors feeds it to preamplifier -> bandpass filter -> rectifier + low pass filter. If you didn't understand that it's essentially a sound level meter which is only sensitive to knock frequencies. I copied their schematics and tuned the filter to the rb25. So far i've only bench tested it with an occiloscope, will be installing it in my car soon and hooking it up to the inputs of my techedge wideband.
  2. hey have you still got the varex muffler? i can't send PM to you.
  3. Joined the hypergear club recently thought I'd share my story. After finding my previous highflow too laggy for my liking I went to stao and asked for response so he put together a turbo with SS1 compressor wheel. Went to install it last weekend. When i finished fitting the lines and intake I spotted missing manifold studs. First and last. I went to tighten up the remainder in the hope i could still drive my car. Found 2 more broke and another seized up. fark! decided to rip everything off.. Called thread doctor but he was too busy, so i searched the internet for left hand drill bits and ezouts, couldn't find anything local (wanted it fast). wandered into a tool shop and found this: An hour plus later.... got charged 120 for manifold gasket from nissan... crazy oh well needed it. $2.50 per stud wasn't too bad though Anyway I've effectively changed turbo 3 times now. Getting real good at it lol. Hope that makes anyone struggling with their turbo install feel better. Wonder how much the exhaust leak contributed to the lag and if i even needed to get my second highflow. Feels good so far anyhow. Not quite stock response still but heaps better than before. Would be interesting to compare to Bird's turbo since you have an actual SS1
  4. There's a dual mode muffler fitted factory for the ECR33. If you look at all your R33s you'll notice provisions for the cabling. It's also stated in the workshop manual. So according to the legislation: "(3) A person is not guilty of an offence under subclause (1) (d) if the temporary noise reduction device: (a) was fitted by the vehicle manufacturer, or is an equivalent replacement for any such device fitted by the vehicle manufacturer, or" Does that mean varex is an equivalent replacement dual mode muffler?
  5. Hey Stao (& everyone else), I bought a second hand OP6 highflow. Took it to Stao last year to get some advice about fitting it up. Stao thinks it was an old highflow he did due to the balancing marks. Stao said the CHRA is similar to a gt3076 or something. See attachments for pics. Anyhow, I finally got around to fitting the turbo this week. Took it out for a test drive and I'm finding it super laggy. Hits 7psi at 4000rpm in 2nd gear, video here: I just wanted to ask... is this normal?! I have checked the wastegate and put so much preload it shoots up to 10+psi. The reponse is still the same. I have blocked the wastegate feed and response didn't change. My thoughts now is that the turbo is just like this. In comparison the stock turbo hits 7psi before 3000rpm: Anyhow I don't have time to change it again, so i'll be driving this around a few months. What are my options if I want stock response with consistent 14psi? I saw earlier in this thread you can do a 2871 BB highflow or 2530 highflow. Will these turbos achieve good response?
  6. Sounds like a problem with the ignitor. I bought some aftermarket s2 coilpacks (transistor built in). One of the coils/transistors died and would short circuit and consult would throw a code 21 error code. Would happen for 2 minutes when the engine was warming up then be fine for the rest of the drive. I eventually bought nissan datascan and waited for it to happen again and turned off cylinders to find out which one it was. Replaced it and never happened again.
  7. How much for the blown turbo (if your willing to separate)? Is the turbine housing damaged? Interested if it can be high flowed.

  12. happens all the time. hate these idiots who can't drive. at least on the freeway you can use up the breakdown/emergency lane. the outbound ramp to kings way near crown is the worst, u get 50 metres to merge in. As i was accelerating up to 60kmh to match the traffic speed the idiot infront of me brakes to a complete stop. Made me brake so hard and we were both stuck there till a massive gap in traffic came.

    Stacked The 33

ouch. i did something similar i was reading an sms while reverse parking. scraped my rear quarter. Was able to polish mine out though. takes decent force to do the damage in ur photos though. u must reverse out fast
  14. front/dump is stock cheapo xforce 3" cat I haven't been EPAed yet so I'm not sure but i was jsut following the document: ADR 28/01 2006 I used a super wide angle lens (10mm) on my 7D so the distance is closer than it looks in the video.
  15. Measured myself today not sure i was doing it correct but you can see in the video. I'm getting about 88dBA @ 4600rpm. So i assume at 4800rpm it'd be close to 90dBA. I thought this might be useful for your reference. Measured using altronics Q1264 SPL meter. Setup: dBA weighting Hi level Fast reponse 45 degrees approx 0.5m from exhaust tip

    Noise Cameras

wonder how they discriminate the location of the noise. what if i just stand next to the mic and clap my hands or make some other loud noise? lol
  18. does it have to be 1mm all the way through? if not ideally you'd start with a short starter drill or at least something bigger and stiffer. after you start should be much easier to drill the rest.

    Coil Packs

got yellow jackets for myself. fixed my misfiring i had for 2 years. i tried heaps of things including swapping 2nd hand coils, taping them up with high temp tape, 0.8mm gap plugs, rewiring my ignition power supply with high current relays and changing cas. i now run 1.1mm gap iridiums no probs. although i do remember having to file the bracket or something coz the yellow jackets were slightly bigger.
  20. is the front speakers splits? did u check the depth and diameter? i can do all that and live relatively close. i recommend u get rear speakres that fit though. if it's too big for the plastic holder it'll probably hit the metal on the shelf too and u don't want to cut that. are u just amping the sub or all the speakers?

    Tiger Woods Saga

y is it acceptable for a female to use violence against a male and receive praise like "you fkn go girl". but it's wrong when a male teaches a female a lesson they're labelled a woman basher, instead of receiving praise like "u taught that bitch"
