  1. Although I agree that it's a little weird to spend all that money on your car and not know anything about it, think about it this way: Mr. X is a doctor/lawyer/porn star and he bought a Skyline GTR... It's not as fast as he thought it would be, so he drives upto CRD with a stock GTR, and drive out with a 600hp GTR a month later and hand Jim a cheque for eleventy billion dollars... Why would he do all the research and development and learn welding, engine building, flow dynamics, fuelling requirements, engine tuning, etc... etc... Just because he wanted to make his car more powerful???? Wouldn't it make more sense to stick with what you know (your job and career) and earn the money to be able to pay someone who knows what he's doing to work on your car? Mr. X simply doesn't have the time or the inclination to learn the ins and outs of engine dynamics... All he wants is to make his car more powerful... Is that such a bad thing?
  2. Man... "chequebook racer" must be up there with one of the most retarded things to ever call someone :uhh: :uhh:
  3. All for show bro!!!! FUL SIK RE??!
  4. HAHA!!! I HAVEN'T READ THE THREAD!!!!!11
  5. I think you'd be surprised how many other cars there are that fit that powerband description Many are quite famous cars on the show circuit, but you'll never see them at Drag Combat or Eastern Creek (oh, unless they're in the carpark all lined up for show *coff.coff*)
  6. Yes, people are overly concerned with their dyno figures... It's funny to see how workshop-to-workshop readings for the same car can vary so greatly... It's even funnier to see how state-to-state readings can be so completely out of whack But by FAR, the funniest thing is how angry people get when you point out to them that they spun up 500kw @ wheels and only run 110mph on the 1/4 mile
  7. So what about the 6 month subscription for updates? How do we go about registering for that? I assume you haven't done that yet so it's valid for the buyer? edit: WHOAA!!!! Hang on, you had the new one up for $550 last night... And now you're asking $800? Kmart have them for $650-ish new... If you'll sell the new one for $550, I'll take it... Otherwise I'll just head to Kmart.
  8. Happy B'day skank-boy!!!!
  9. Kirin Ichiban > Asahi You should get pics of the 1 litre kegs of Kirin that you can buy... Those things are AWESOME!!!!
  10. Wow, definitely a valid point, and I wish I knew how to do that Unfortunately I don't really know how to translate gear ratios -> powerband With the following being the ratios of the R33 GTR box, how does one calculate where you should be aiming to be making your power? 1st 3.214 2nd 1.925 3rd 1.302 4th 1.000 5th 0.752 Final drive 4.111
  11. Yes please Sir!!!!!
  12. I agree with him. If I had to choose between a 10-15 year old R32 GTS-4 and a 1 year old WRX, I know I'd take the WRX in a heartbeat. ......... but if you can't see that that's an unfair comparison, you should end yourself and not contaminate the evolutionary gene pool Oh, and 1996 R33 GTR = $40,000-ish 2003 WRX = $37,000-ish Now lets compare those two cars
  13. Yep, I absolutely agree with everything you said in that post ESPECIALLY about matching gear and diff ratios to the powerband of your engine, something I think a lot of people understand, but.......... Unfortunately for most drivers on here, [i'm guessing that] we don't have the budget or the luxury to be changing gearsets to more suitable ratios just for the occasional trip to the race track Although I love circuit racing, and will take my car to the circuit as often as my wallet allows, I have to keep in mind that at the end of the day, it is still 90% a road car... And as a road car, I'd like as much torque down low as possible, as that's where my engine will be working for literally 80-85% of it's working life. That makes the decision to sacrifice the 50hp at 3500 rpm for 25hp at 7000rpm a little harder But for the race cars like you deal with, it's absolutely true that a nice meaty 4000/4500 -> redline powerband and suitable close-ratio gearset would be ideal
  14. And how does the 6 month subscription transfer to the buyer?
  15. What's your reason for selling?
  16. It's a cruise, not a race. Reading the last two pages, has confirmed what I had feared, in that people would be going at outrageous speeds, and endangering the welfare of others. There are always a few in the bunch, and they always seem to be the younger drivers It seems to go hand in hand with convoy driving in performance cars. I fully understand how tempting it is to hammer it along such awesome roads such as Putty Rd. HOWEVER........... people must remember that we're driving a pack of loud, fast performance cars that attract Police attention even whilst going the speed limit. Many people also complain how they get unwanted Police attention when they drive their cars, just because it's a turbocharged import. Did you ever stop and think why? Put yourself in a Toyota Camry with wife and kids going the opposite direction, only to have a group of turbocharged imports with young drivers rip past you at nearly double the speed limit. Not only that, you are attending a Skylines Australia Cruise. You are bringing the club as well as performance cars in general into disrepute with your actions. There shouldn't need to be two groups. It's a cruise guys, not a race.
  17. That's not true at all. It'll handle 300kw @ wheels EASILY, if the block is in good condition.
  18. That's a photochop. Those are 26" wheels before someone dodgied it, if I remember correctly.
  19. More! More! More!!!
  20. I suggest you take note of your signature before someone comes and rips your bonnet off for having those stupid neon washer lights on your car
  21. Yeah, well I meant drags on that comment... For circuit work, you want torque from as down low in the rev range as you can get it Peak powah means nothing
  22. Lucien, I know that the old style is just an accessory thing you stick on the normal fuel filler cap. Looking at the photo of the new one, it doesn't look like it's large enough to slip over the old one, so I would assume that it's a complete replacement... I could be wrong though, so don't quote me on that.
  23. Chambourcin is best during hot summer days around the pool Mmmmmmmmmmmmm... hot summer days
