How To Cover This Bit Of My Front Bar?
funkymonkey replied to JoelyMoley's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
you've got the mesh on the wrong side. make a cardboard template for the mesh to sit as flush as possible against the back piece. drill pairs of tiny holes along the line of the template on the panel cut a piece of mesh (if possible a finer mesh than what you've got) to size using the template paint the middle piece of the panel black so it blends into the under-bonnet area better thread some thin solid metal wire through one of the pairs of holes you drilled earlier loop the wires through the mesh and back through the other hole in the pair tighten the wire by twisting it. if possible spray the mesh black, so that the whole thing just blends together. It would also help if you took the time to make sure your bumper sat right. Your RHS headlight needs to go up a bit, and that gnarly gap (possibly from fibreglass sag or bad fitting of screws) between the headlights and bumper needs to disappear. -
nga wut? that's exactly what my ceffy's been doin... might check the injectors today. BBS's are cheaper out of germany, my uncle can get a set and send it down. But I don't wanna just do a Euro/US spec BBS meshie replica. I want to give it that oceanic flavour. Like when I talk to the guys inthe US/UK they always go on about how we get work meisters and GT-C and XD9's on our skylines and shit... I wanna try and replicate that uniqueness. I'm seriously considering a set of VS-XX's with gold centres in 9" and 10.5" front n back. However I'll need to run hub adapters for those, and that means I'm gonna be nervous as fuck about a wheel coming off, and also more importantly I'll lose up to 20mm of offset, which means I'll have to get like an 8 and a 9.5 or soemthing like that spaced out. Ideally I want something with max width and minimum offset that just bolts straight on. And Basti's right, I'll never pay full price/retail for something, I'm happier buying secondhand. Otherwise I'd have gone out and bought a brand new golf instead of spending $5000ish on a 2000 model.

I don't see why I should be charging anyone for taking the risk of running a firmware update that I'm playing with for my own personal use. If you choose to use it, you're on your own, and removes any liability on my part. Just like jailbreaking an iPhone or softmodding an Xbox. If I can convert the multibyte japanese characters to halfwidth japanese characters, then I might be able add English to the end of it. That's on the proviso that the Xanavi system can render half width. Ah yes. I'm doing it because I tinker with electronics, it's a hobby and an experiment. I jailbroke my iPhone within 30 mins of purchasing it, modded my XBox, run an Arudino on my R32 ECU to drive a couple of devices and change dash light colours, have an Internet controllable light and temperature control system for my house, have an RFID based dog hatch for my dog, etc. I don't believe in paying someone to do something when it's much more fun for me to do it myself, its the risk I take for what I can learn. Maybe its just a blatant disregard for warranties and gadget costs, after all if I break it, I'll just buy another one. I'm sorry if this cuts into your profit margin and business model.I also don't believe that profiteering from any hacks I make will lead to any advancement in the platform (old principle I hold from being a programmer). What's the point in replacing a closed system with a modified closed system? When I get it all working properly, I'll put up step by step DIY's so anyone can do it from scratch, or just download an ISO of the firmware and have a simpler update process (for those who don't wanna know how its done or aren't technical enough). If anything I might set it up as donationware, where people can donate some money to offset my initial costs if they found it useful. Also a few of the admin would like to have a word with you about trading on the forum without being a paid trader, and using SAU's brand in marketing your product through your networks. The first I heard of this was when I was at the compliancer and he said "ah yeah the SAU menu update... it was too expensive so I don't offer it." You can imagine my surprise. I'm not the admin that looks after traders and businesses or trademarks, so I'll leave it to them to sort it out with you. Getting back on topic, I've already had a look at the map data, and it's encoded in a proprietary Zenrin format (the guys who provide maps for JP, EU and US). Decoding this would take a fair while, but we'll see how we go. So far my plan was to just get the bootscreen to display a custom image, and the menu in english for ease of use. I'll tackle maps after that.As far as the process is concerned, if it is successful, then maybe further down the track I'll have a look at doing the other Xanavi units (V36 etc). Its never going to be a priority though, as I don't own one and hence no urgency on my part to get it working. With all that said, this is a project I'm doing for myself, so I'll be working according to my own timeframes, which means the rest of you guys shouldn't wait on me to get it working or for updates or for support. That is the difference between free and a paid product.

on the rear I'd like around 10" +25 or something like that. this is the colour the car is atm. Fucking euro's running gay bolt patterns and reverse mounting hubs.
-
they come with 6.5 +30 or some shit. After all the measurements I did I can fit 9" +25 to 9" +30 in the front with some rolling and so on. This will give me minimum offset on maximum width. The rears aren't an issue, there's plenty of clearance and space to fit up to 11".
-
you find me epic fitment in 5x100 then. I'm trying to avoid running spacers, pcd adapters etc.
-
lol I haven't had a successful flash yet, so don't get your hopes up. This weekend I'm gonna try it on the car, so I'll see how I go. As for the screens and stuff... I'm not sure if it can be changed, but I'll have a play with it and see what happens. No plans for the V36, I'm just doin this in my spare time as a favour for the missus
-
fuckit 8.5 +35 is nowhere near aggressive enough.
-
found a set of regamasters in 18x8.5 +35 5x100 PCD in white. should cost about $1300 delivered fenced.
-
yeah I doubt they'd ever pick you up on that. worst case scenario move your gear shift from 3rd to 5th only, so it lookes like you're goin from park to drive

oooo livin life on the edge maaaan

wtf... why do cnc'd titanium parts have oxidisation marks on them? that's full homo spec. titanium + heat = oxidisation = pretty colours titanium + electricity = electrolysis = pretty colours titanium + cnc machine = mirror surface in a uniform colour in fact to make a cnc'd titanium surface go magenta/green you have to etch the surface or subject it to extreme heat, which actually distresses the material and makes it weaker. This happens naturally near welds and shit, but on a machined washer and bolt? GTFO.
-
lulz titanium strut brace. coz chromolly strut braces are so heavy.
-
17x8 +40 in a 5x100 PCD FFFUUU this is the smallest offset I can find or 18x8 +38 VS SS's repaint centre gold? fucking euro 5x100 PCD screwing my ability to obtain baller wheels cheap.
-
truf! you're like that voice you hear when you find a passed out chick, which tells you its ok to fingerbang her, because there's a very good chance she'll wake up feeling horny and do you.
-
Also... this is my inspiration: the golf has slightly worn factory cream leather interior, which my dad's mate is gonna recolour/restore to a nice tan like the murc.
-
I did? Stance suspension kit shipped from the US today oh hells yeah

Which is why instead of banning you for spamming the forum I've merely locked your threads and told you to cut it out. By all means get together with other R32 owners through local meets you organise on SAU. Just don't try to scalp members on here to your own forum. Exactly what's wrong with SAU that you need to create a splinter forum? What content on your forum do you have that caters specifically to R32 owners that SAU doesn't already provide? Other than body panels, cosmetic parts, a 16bit ECU and hydraulic ATTESA system, what other unique features do R32s have over an R33 or R34 that they require a specialist forum? How do you believe you can organise a club better and create a better user experience overall than a devoted committee of up to 10 people per state and a forum of 50,000 members?

just to update you guys, I managed to pull the firmware data out of the update CD, and have started decrypting the text blocks. It should be easy to identify cos its all multibyte data for japanese text. Replace these with english equivalents and the menus should be in english. Also pulled the bitmap data out of the firmware file, and have replaced it with an "SAU" background screen is there any other tweaks you guys would like to see on the menu's etc? I think I might be able to change the colours of some of the menu highlights etc... will require some playing around. I probed the board and found the JTAG pins, so even if I cock it up I should be able to manually force a firmware into the rom (gonna pull an image of the working one in it first). Hopefully this weekend or next I should be able to test it on our V35, and if it works, I'll slap together a firmware update CD for you guys to download and enjoy.

hey I've got this idea for this round thing that you put on the corners of the car... makes it sooo much smoother to move. I'm thinking of calling it "the wheel". What do you reckon? Shoot me a PM if you're keen to come onboard and market the idea in WA. In case you're too dense to get my allusion, stop trying to reinvent the wheel. SAU caters for skyline owners of all varieties. We have regional clubs that manage track days and events with CAMS affiliation etc. If you want to set up an R32 only group in your local area, that's fine. Organise an R32 only cruise on SAU, that's fine too. But if you want to leverage SAU to make your own little 32SAU national club and kickstart a forum of your own... Get. The. Fuck. Out. Sincerely, Admin and avid R32 owner since 1999 (GTS, GTSt, GTS4, GTR and even GTE models)
