We're talking about the same Nissan that refused to sell 2 seater 300ZX's in Australia because the believed no one would buy em right? They've already priced themselves at the high end of the affordability scale (compared to other mass produced sports cars)... the added costs of a V Spec or Evo would price them right out of the ball park.

gold sewid... pure gold. then again, it kinda looks OK in that wheel arch... kinda like how a 22" looks quite normal on a Chrysler 300. BTW have you guys in japan noticed this new trend of white cars with black wheels, and WHITE wheel lips?

looks very american. would expect a rapper to roll around in that... like maybe Ludacris.

A mate that just got back from japan commented that there's been a small stumbling block to the R35's sold in japan. In japan when you go to register your car, one of the things you have to provide is you shako shoumei details. ie. your parking space allocation. Now to those living in rural areas, or with their own garages this can be whatever size they deem fit, but if you live in the city and lease a parking space from the city, then the size allocations are preset. Most of these spaces are under the width of the R35, which means that some potential buyers in the big cities cannot own the car, or must go to great difficulty to own one. To date most japanese cars are designed with the average parking space size in mind, but Nissan's kinda gone "f**k it" with the new GT-R. From memory the last japanese car that was designed like this was the NSX, and that again was designed with the US market in mind. If you look at porka's, audi's and other mass produced european sports cars (ie not ferrari's n lambo's), their wheelbase is narrower than the new GT-R. I suppose having a small narrow car like the older GTR's sitting next to a Charger, Corvette or Rustang would look kinda small and girly. So besides the advantage of a wider track, was the design of the R35 to comfortably seat the McDonalds fuelled wide asses of yanks?

Fender/wheel Arch Flares On R32's
funkymonkey replied to funkymonkey's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Nismo_Boy that's exactly what I was planning on doing, GTR style rear overfender with the arch flare. Thanks for that... more pics of that car would be super ace! I'm goin for pretty much that look without the "omg wtf super drifter" look BN kit... going for more of a GT toughness. Nismo_Boy and URAS, where did you guys get those fender flares for the cars from? -
Fender/wheel Arch Flares On R32's
funkymonkey replied to funkymonkey's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
N2 is a series of racing in Japan, which I guess includes Silvia's, AE86's, and non GTR skylines. back in the day "N2 Kits" were kits similar to the flares that the race cars ran to fit better tyres. 240SX is what the Americans called our 180SX's and silvias. 240SX Coupe = S13 Silvia with 180SX front 240SX Hatch = 180SX 240SX S14 = S14 200SX Silvia -
Noob Import Question
funkymonkey replied to G Boost's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
once the compliance sticker is on your car you can take it for registration. -
Well... so I'm about to start prepping the car for its new look, and I've been seriously contemplating getting some fender flares for the guards. Guard rolling just doesn't get me the desired width and I don't particulary like the look of rolled guards, esp when the car's not substantially lowered to tuck in under them. Using a fender flare allows me to retain the shape of the wheel arch. Another reason that I've seriously considered them is that newer designs of cars give the flaring of the wheel arch prominence, a callback to older designs I guess, but by doing so it actually could modernise the design of the R32 (bit confusing, but you should get what I mean). So i've been thinking about getting fender flares... here is my inspiration: Its a sweet 240SX in the US that's been painted in 350Z blue with the flares blended into the factory guards. I love the toughness that it give the car and the improvement in stance... not to mention the fact that you can now run wider wheels. Here's one on the back of an R32 GTS, not as elegant and flowing, looks more purposeful Here's a set of N2 fender flares When not blended in and left in another colour they can look a bit too oldschool (like a torana or a 240Z) but I reckon when blended in and colourmatched to the body they can look really nice. Thoughts? Anyone got any more pics of R32's with arch flares?

Noob Import Question
funkymonkey replied to G Boost's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
oh we're talking a delay of a couple of days? lol in that case its just regular paperwork being delayed in canberra. Its actually all digital these days the RAWS submission system, but yeah it does get a lil choccers at this time of year. 1 month from the time the ship lands in australia to registration is the average I found. Most good workshops can turn them out in a fortnight or so. -
Noob Import Question
funkymonkey replied to G Boost's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
It sounds like the car is uncomplied. Ususally its a straightforward procedure, a few modifications to the car to make it Australian Design Rules compliant, submit the correct paperwork to DOTARS (department of transport) in Canberra, wait a coupel of weeks and then register the car as per usual. Compliancing a car should take no longer than 1 month usually. However if the car in question is a test vehicle, then there's a game of hot potato between the compliancer and the DOTARS when it comes to paperwork. If "Discussion Items" are raised about the work of the compliancer, then the compliancer has to rectify the issues raised by DOTARS and resubmit the paperwork, sometimes have it reinspected and so on. This can be repeated over many montsh. I've seen test vehicles take as long as a year to get approved. Usually a compliancer that's been in the business for a while and on the ball will get their test cars through quickly. mostly amatures and new businesses are scrutinised more carefully. Ask them who the compliancer is... might help you figure out what you're in for. Oh and what car is it? -
got you a rear view and tail light I can send up to you via my mum who's comin from melb on monday. pick it up from her in North Strathy.

Are R32 And S13 Lca's The Same?
funkymonkey replied to Aaron32's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
hmmm might try and grab all 4 (S13, S14, R32, R33) and sit them side by side n get some pics... although there's a distinct possibility one of the muppets at the workshop mislabelled the LCA's lol. -
there's VQ40 V35's running around around the world already using modded Nissan Navara engines.

Are R32 And S13 Lca's The Same?
funkymonkey replied to Aaron32's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
R32 and S14 are identical, except the hole for the swaybar doesn't have the washer tac'd onto it. Perfect for converting S13 hubs to 5 stud S14 hubs. R33 and S14 are identical, except there is no hole for the swaybar. S14's have a different ball joints to S13, and the bump stop for the steering rack is different. So if you work it out, S13 is different to R32 So not interchangeable, unless you're doing a hub conversion. -
new batman movie musta been real shit for him to have to do that. not really a big heath fan anyways... his acting was a lil lacklustre in the big hollywood movies he did. ah well RIP.

RX-7's are issued approvals under USED car import allowances. And of them only 09/1999 to 12/2002 models. The reason they are allowed is: from http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/sevs/032-02.htm i.e mazda never sold them as a full volume model, so parallel imports are OK as long as they don't coincide with local manufacture supplied periods. Nissan on the other hand has hinted that they will be supplying the GT-R in full volume to Australia, and they've proven that they're willing to go to great lengths to stamp out the competition from parallel importers by their actions in the UK. Here's the approval for NEW R35 GT-R's: http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/sevs/477-00.htm

My god Geoff's a cock juggling thunderflamin mongrel... maybe he should read the SAU threads on the subject before hypemongering. The SEVS listing is for NEW R35's... which means the car has to be sold as a NEW car by a local reseller. Its not a used import approval, which is what RAW's deal with when importing cars like R34's, V35's etc. An R35 should cost about $120,000 PLUS compliance cost from my calculations (keeping in mind the luxury car tax you have to pay on it). Now as with any car that has limited number of compliancers (eg ferrari's and masserati's) the compliance cost isn'tgonna be $2500 like an R33 Skyline... think much bigger numbers. No USED R35's are allowed for import under the current approvals. Used imports will only be allowed if Nissan fail to sell an R35 locally within 18 months of it being available for sale anywhere else in the world.
