People, The guys over on secretdrift forums have organised a social meetup/bbq predominantly for Cefiro/Laurel owners, but all JDM 4doors are welcome to attend. 2door vehicles will be allowed, but you will have to make an effort to fit in by stickytaping and extra 2 cardboard doors on your car. Here are some details from the sd forum So, if you wish to attend please state so in this topic and indicate if you will be bringing mates so we can have a guesstimate and the number of sausages/drinks to bring. People who express their interest will be given further instructions via PM If there are any further instructions, please ask in this topic so that I don't get the same question 10times via PM Thanks, Luke

That's pretty cool. I knew you could get them remapped but I didn't realise they were options available for real time tuning. In that case it may even be worth retaining the Z32 ecu and not worrying about going aftermarket?
-
Hey, Since the Z32 VG30DETT ECU is remappable and has support for VCT I thought it would be a good choice for running my RB25/30 hybrid. Providing I use the same size injectors as the factory VG30, keep the compression/boost levels similar, and use the Z32 AFM the factory ecu should be able to run it without a retune? I do plan to make a fair bit of power out of the engine, but I figure if the VG30 ecu can run it with basic mods it would save me having to get the initial tune, and the cost of an aftermarket ecu. Then after the engine has run in, I can upgrade the injectors/afm etc and get the ECU remapped to suit.

I found a thread where someone was considering the conversion to an S15 and uras was saying he was considering putting the double wishbone suspension into the S13, but there were no photos and he said he didn't end up bothering about it because of lack of steering lock... which is a good point, you can only turn the front wheels soo far if they have driveshafts in them...
-
No I don't have a GTR to compare this to, but I do have a regular R32 in my driveway and I can tell that fitting the double wishbone suspension is not a fairly minor mod to the strut tower. I am aware there are going to be problems with the transfer case and the chassis rails, but one step at a time... I am eager to see where this has been done before, I have been looking for research for a while now, this wasn't just some idea I thought up and posted in a couple mins. I haven't been able to find any detailed photos of a conversion like this anywhere, the best I found was the FullRace R14 conversion (GTR engine and gear into the S14) and even then they don't show great detail of the conversion. All you can see is that they have welded in the double wishbone suspension.
-
That is true, but the strut towers in the S13 and RWD-A31 are completely different to the towers in the skyline, it's definitely not a matter of unbolting the upper arm and then drilling holes and bolting it into the S13 (or cefiro). Even if you did, the strut tower would probably collapse. Alternatively you could cut the towers out of the skyline and then weld them into the cefiro (or S13), but that kind of modification is not reversible and would render the car track only... if it did work. I managed to find some photos of GTiR uprights, and they look very similar if not identical to the S series uprights. I'm going to go hunting at wreckers to see if I can compare them side by side, at least then I'll have a better idea of whether it's going to work or not.
-
No worries, yeah any of the headlights should plug straight in, Perhaps you could hang a skyline exhaust under the car, then measure the distance between the front of the cat and the end of your front pipe, then just make a little pipe to join them, possibly even a flex join? I'm not exactly sure how big the difference is going to be.
-
Yeah I'm planning to have a look at some Nissan family stuff first, the GTiR springs to mind, as does the regular pulsar, may also look at the patrol (though I'm not betting on it).

Cant Get A Smooth Gear Change?
daisu replied to Italiazr1's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Using a short shifter will make it harder as you are loosing mechanical advantage on the lever. It will also wear out your synchros faster. I'd recommend doing the oil change in the gearbox, maybe use something like that redline shockproof? Just read your signature, if you have that much power and your '20 gearbox is on it's way out, might be time to look into an RB25 box, especially if you intend to be snapping gear changes on track. -
Yeah, using the front suspension from a skyline is going to involve having to weld the suspension mounts in, which is going to be costly, there is a group in the US that does this conversion to S14's, and they weld in the suspension from the GTR. Subframe, yep already looked into that.

People, I'm wondering what's the likelyhood of being able to find a hub from a different vehicle that is going to fit up to the suspension arms of the S13/14/15. If I have to do some reasonably small mods like using different control arms and what not to get it to fit then I don't mind, only thing I'm worried about is completely ruining my steering/suspension geometry. But I figure people lower their cars insane amounts, use longer control arms and wind in max castor with adjustable arms without too much drama so it shouldn't be too bad. Reason for this, I want to use some sort of FWD or AWD front hubs so I can convert my cefiro to AWD. I know that some cefiros came factory fitted AWD, but they utilised the double wishbone suspension from the skyline, whereas the RWD cefiro uses the same suspension as the S13, so I can't just whack the drivetrain in. Buying a factory AWD cefiro is also probably out of the question as I've only ever heard of 1 person owning one and I don't think they'd be a common thing in japan either, if you could find one it'd have to be an 88 model to bring it across.

Sorry to go a bit off topic here, but do you have some bright led's behind your cluster or is it just from long exposure time on your camera that makes it look so bright.

Looks like it might come in handy

Exhaust, only other that fits is C33 laurel, but like the cefiro good luck finding one standard. The difference between the cefiro/laurel exhausts and ones like the s13 and R32 is that they are pretty much straight from the front pipe back. That and the cefiro/laurel not only has a longer wheelbase than the R32, the boot space is also a fair bit longer so the exhaust from r32ors13 is going to be far too short. You may have some luck with R33, but don't quote me, thats just my assumption from looking at pictures of aftermarket exhausts from what I could find in google images, the R33 exhaust looks fairly straight like the laurel/cefiro one. Headlights, not exactly sure what you are asking.. Are you wanting to know if you can replace your current headlights with ones from a later model? If so, yeah they plug straight in. I used to have the projector style with the black surrounds, and now I have the non projector type, plugged straight in. Can't help you with the bumper though.

Hey people, I know that the R32 2door and 4ddor rear bumpers are different but was wondering if anyone knows if the reinforcement bar is the same as I need one for my 4 door.
-
He was probably referring to the pink sticker as in the AFM, and if he was willing to sell the AFM seperate from the engine.

I managed to find something locally.... thanks for your time. Luke

Item: R32 Mspec front bumper Condition: Decent Price: $100 or trade for an uncut bumper (prefer black but will accept other colours) To Fit: (What car) R32 Location: Brisbane, southside Contact: Either here, PM, or on my mobile 0432 848 627 Comments: It's been cut in the front to allow more airflow to a FMIC. I'm not running a FMIC so I don't need it and would prefer a bumper that hasn't been cut.

People, I'm after a bellhousing for my RB25DET box. Anyone got anything? RB26 bellhousing fits I'm told, whether it has to be specific clutch setup (ie push or pull) is another thing, though I am missing clutch, the clutch slave cylinder and the fork etc so I'd assume even if it is the other type I could make it work providing I source the correct parts?? Let us know what you got?
-
I can't say specifically where I saw it, but I'm pretty sure it was in the 300 and something pages long thread (R33 RB30 conversions) where someone talked of installing an R32 RB25DE head onto an untouched RB30 bottom end. From what I've read through this forum and others, the standard RB30 bottom end is quite reliable, providing it is in good condition. 155psi across all 6 cylinders sounds good to me, what are the factory specs for a standard RB30E? Reliability is a bit of a fuzzy area due to the many variables that affect it, boost pressures, compressor efficiency, tuning etc. If you do a bit more reading in the forum here you will find some first hand accounts of setups similar to this. Personally, I have no previous experience, I'm only at the stage of collecting parts. Do some more research and figure out what other people have done regarding factory bottom ends, and you will see what kind of power outputs they are achieving.

Piston Oil Squirters---->aftermarket
daisu replied to r33_racer's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Gary, this oil retention coating of the skirts... is that the same thing as the teflon coating that the other guys were talking about? -
Piston Oil Squirters---->aftermarket
daisu replied to r33_racer's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Awesome, that is alot cheaper than I was expecting. Is the teflon skirt coating the same as that oil retention coating that sydneykid talks about? -
It has begun, I have secured an R33 RB25DET complete head (minus injectors and exhaust manifold), and I'm going to look at an RB30 engine on Tuesday. So excited I feel like a kid on christmas eve.
