  4. I think it really needs to be a bit of a balance. There should be two criteria aiming to be satisfied: 1 - Make it a good event for spectators. Obviously this encourages sponsorships, higher viewing, higher attendance, basically helps make it a success commercially. We all know how good it can be watching a number of wild cars going at it tooth and nail. 2 - Make it accessible also for the not *as* serious entries. Theres no point having an event with half a dozen cars and thats it. Basically there would be an hour of action and not much else. If you have a couple of lower classes with one top class acting as the draw card, it will encourage spectators to stick around for a full day. Obviously street class entries wont be as crazy as open class ones, they wont be as fast, wont be as impressive, but they would likely still provide close and entertaining competition. Think about your typical drag racing event. Noone says 'oh lets not have the untubbed class because the pro RWD is the one everyone wants to see'. Yeah sure the top class with the fastest cars is definitely most impressive, but its also the slower but still entertaining entries in the lower classes that make it a proper full day event, rather than a handful of cars doing a handful of passes then calling it a day.

  6. Some interesting points being thrown around... I think the biggest dillema will come from what determines a 'street' car. Introducing an R compound control tyre or saying only R compound tyres are elegible is pretty stupid to put it bluntly. The whole *point* of a street class is to try and literally emulate the capabilities of the cars on the street with the performance of the cars on the track. If you are super serious about winning then yes you should use R compound tyres. You also should probably be in an unlimited class because using the theory that you should have dedicated tyres, you should probably also have a dedicated car for the event. The idea of a street class is that the competitors run in as similar a guise as they would on the street as practicable. Realistically most people wouldnt drive a car with no trim/interior panels/a fixed back race seat/a harness/a cage/no stereo/no aircon as their street car on a regular basis. I think it is definitely valid in saying that safety is a vitally important concern when running an event like this proposed one, and should be taken seriously when determining classes and regs for sure. But take a look at your typical track day. Almost all the street car participants *dont* have rollcages, *dont* run serious R compound rubber, *dont* have totally stripped out interiors (perhaps have taken out rear seat/spare tyres/jack/tools). Of course there will be a few who do, but typically most participants are normal, lightly to moderately modified street cars running very close to street trim. And safety wise from what I have seen, it really doesnt seem to function too badly this way. By defenition the most competetive entrants in an event like this (who will obviously be the ones hitting the highest speeds), will be typically running in the top unlimited class with no restrictions on rollcages or race seats or other safety equipment...
  7. With Wakefield being resurfaced (I think it started yesterday?), would it be a viable track once the work is completed? Also I think it would be really important to have some well thought out regulations in place. I think the problem would be that unless the competition is effectively broken down into competetive classes, and regulations are put in to govern to total performance of competitors (eg the no slicks at Tsukuba), it would be easy to end up with an unfair competition that is really biased towards some competitors. I think there would be quite a lot of interest in such an event from people with street cars (ie not dedicated track bashers) as a good way of getting involved in some friendly competition with other similar cars, due to the fact that the format is relatively kind on cars (basically only as hard as a regular track day). Perhaps it could be broken down into something like this: Unlimited AWD, RWD, FWD 3 top classes dependant on drivetrain config. R-compound rubber allowed. Street AWD, RWD, FWD 3 street classes dependant on drivetrain config. Street legal tyres only. Full interior, full exhaust, no cages, valid registration required. (Which so far is obviously more or less how the Revspeed event is divided) But then additionally have: Unlimited and Street Classics 1979 perhaps? And older cars elegible. Otherwise same rules as other Unlimited and street class respectively. True Street Similar to street class, but also no engine conversions, functioning cat convertor required, the owner must drive the car and car must drive to the event. This might obviously be a bit difficult to enforce, but I think would make for a really entertaining class? The $1000 Challenge Limited to spending $1000 on your entry (including purchase price of the car). Other than that pretty much anything goes, as long as the vehicle passes scrutineering. This would be the perfect class for all the backyarders out there and people on a strict budget, perhaps the prize for the class being a drive in an Unlimited or Street class car in the following years event? Or maybe $1000 prizemoney? Obviously this kind of class would benefit those who can think outside the square a little (not only in terms of what car to squeeze into the budget, but also showing what is most important in making a car go fast). Again, this could prove to be a bit difficult to police, but if it could be done I think it would be fantastically different and completely brilliant fun for spectators and competitors. Of course this is just throwing around ideas at this stage, but I think it would be great if while the event was similar to the Revspeed event, if it also had its own character...
  8. That would be wicked!! Sounds similar to Autosalon magazine's current time attack event? What sort of timeframe would organising such an event be? Ie when would the first one be? '08? What track would you have in mind for it?

Seriously top effort though guys, I think I speak on behalf of just about everyone here in saying that your prepwork, dedication and performance over there have been inspirational!!

  14. Hmmm I personally cant wait to see the Vspec, but Im a little doubtful as to how well it will do sales wise... Dont get me wrong, Im sure it will have masses of appeal as a track special type car (same as a GT3), but look at it this way, with no extra power and less weight for amazingly close to double the standard GTRs price, I think quite a number of potential buyers will see it as a case of not quite being sure why you are paying so much extra? While Im sure the engine, even if it wont be getting any more power, will have some work done to it (eg more/bigger oil coolers/radiators etc), and while you are getting more track oriented suspension, I think for approximately $100,000 above the standard price, a lot of people would opt for a base model car, and then get the work done themselves for significantly less money. How much could it really cost to get a base model GTR up to the Vspec standards? The weight reduction would be largely free, perhaps 8k for a few carbon panels, bigger oil cooler and radiator allow perhaps 2k, some brilliant high end track oriented suspension for around 10 - 15k, and say 2k for labour? I might be missing a few things out here obviously, but it really seems a *long* way short of justifying an $100,000 price hike...
  15. Looks almost exactly like what I plan to do. So useless having all your boot space taken with a stupid square sub box. Was actually considering getting a smaller 10' sub (just so less room is used) but looks like your 12 fits in quite nicely. Only problem I can forsee is finding a good way of securing it, that is both solid but also easy to remove
  16. Sorry for n00b request here, but any chance someone could post a pic of these flexible straps? Sound like an interesting idea... At recent track day, I used front strut brace to be towed back to pits when a cooler pipe blew off. Any dramas with using this method?
