as macka said ive got a t04. i swear the scraping sound is coming from the turbo! but their appers to be no side effects, and when you stand over the engine bay and rev the engine it goes away... i really dont understand. macka mayeb you should swing by a have a look hehe:burnout:
if your car is pre 1996 then tint laws are different
i pulled this a few times on my last car (94 r33) it had 10% tint on it, every time i got pulled over and questioned about it id just say it came like that, has been through compiance etc with it on... and they didnt say anything
but as mango said its also got alot to do with how u drive and ur attitude toward cops. when it comes down to it the police can yellow sticker you for just about anything
well i managed 14.8 on std boost!! (160rwhp)
im going back down after the tune-up (hopefully 270-280rwhp) aiming for mid 13s, possibly low 13s if i learn to drive it!
i get around 400-450kms around town, and the engine is running like pig at the moment, with a bigger fuel pump but std fuel map. still havent got round to tuning it yet, its almost worth the money simply due to the money you can save on fuel...
ive been listening around my engine bay intensely recently as theres a strange scraping sort of sound going on. the front end bearing of my gearbox is very worn so thats making a noise but there seems to be a scraping sound coming from near the turbo area.
its sounds like the wheels are scraping against the turbo housing. is this realistic? the turbo still spools up well and theres no loss in power... could this scraping noise not be the turbo? its driving me crazy!!
hehe thats a small air filter!!
is the car still for sale? a mate of mine is looking for an S14 atm, will forward him the link and your contact details.
why not remap the ECU?!?!?!
with 256 data points (im pretty sure)
it costs $500 the first time as you have to buy the new ROM, reburn the maps and then epoxy or whatever the ROM onto the board
after that it gets cheaper (around 300) to get another remap
an SAFC costs $500 alone, plus fitting and tuning. in the end the SAFC is only 'tricking' the ECU into thinking there is less/more airflow so is not a long-term solution for a high-powered car
the improvements youll feel with the pod filter will depend on how badly designed the std airbox is. some are better than others. im not sure with R33's, however if you get a pod filter make sure you do the cold-air partition cos sucking in hot air from the engine bay is NOt going to help performance!
while the RB25DE is a good engine it doesnt repsond too well to mods.
basics have been mentioned such as filter, exhaust and management change. the reality of it is that you should probably just save for a turbo. i gave up on my R33 GTS for the same reasons, you just cant make it fast enough:D
yeh this thing happened to my car a while ago
d/c the breather pipe and was pouring out smoke and running v.badly. had blown 2 piston rings... hopefully this isnt the case with your car but thats an easy way to diagnose the problem!
you can get a power FC apparently
but hard to come by and expensive
anyway with a remappable ECU why replace it?? just go see lumpy at c-red! i guess if youre after BIG power then a motec or seomthing but realistically a rempa should sort you out
go for
1)exhaust
2)pod filter or decent panel filter element
3)boost controller (set to 10psi with std cooler)
4) SAFC fitted and tuned
5)front mount
6)boost up to 12psi and retune SAFC, should be looking around the 180-200rwkw mark
id say the turbo will die before the fuel system.
next steps are
fuel pump
bigger turbo
metal head gasket
injectors
full replacement ECU
and hopefully looking at around 220+rwkw by that stage!
0-100 is around 7secs
and 1/4 mile is high 15
i used to own one, their nice cars but youll get used to the power very quickly and want a turbo!! but a wise move not to get a turbo car so early
good luck with it!
ive actually heard that this stuff isn't good for your paintwork!
there was a thread about polishes etc and some people had proof that over time it deteriorated the paintwork... i used to use it but being paranoid about my car have now stopped.
i use meguliars gold class wax, it takes a while to do 1 coat (which means it only happens once every 2 months!) but the finish on that is excellent. pity it doesnt last too long on the black car!
takakaira.com i think...?
and yeh with that sort of power id say go the power FC. but having said that its alot more expensive. the AFC doesnt have as much control but its cheaper and can tune a car to a certain degree.
