It's easy to tap to the other CAN networks, and in addition, most of the stuff you'd want could be obtained by querying the data over UDS on the network available on the OBD2 port. That said, it's much nicer to just listen on the appropriate network to data that's being streamed rather than querying in steps using OBD2 or UDS.

The first year I did Putty Road I was driving the old Honda Jazz work car. Being the rear vehicle of the 2nd or 3rd group to make sure no one got lost. The GTRs in front couldn't work out how I "was with them in the twisties"... They didn't like it when they found out I was only cruising and chilling in the Jazz like it was a Sunday drive with my Nan in the car.

MLR's Bogan cruise ship
MBS206 replied to The Bogan's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
But that's the thing, the WRX doesn't come stock with all those things. But the old WRX looked good (not all of them). Same as like certain EVOs, Skylines, they looked good as they came from the factory. Stocko WRX doesn't look like anything more than a Subaru Outback except for the hood scoop. -

Take all the black off, put stock wheels back on, and you've got a boring looking Camry with a good scoop. The factory WRX with no fancy bits, looks more boring than a modern Sportivo Camry. Or I'm getting old... -

I was following a near brand new Subaru the other day. If it weren't for the fact it had a WRX badge on it, I'd have thought it was a pure pleb boring car. -

I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more... -

Nah, I'm not an a-hole, ha ha! I do like the colour match. Some of the carbon fibre wraps are quite freaking horrible. There's one a local company I know uses, and it looks damn good! Also very very expensive per metre to buy! ha ha ha It might be cheaper to respray the roof than use the good CF Wrap, ha ha! -

That depends, someone might offer me a good price to resell it Mark... Ha ha ha! I can get it wrapped in a really nice looking carbon fiber vynil if you want? -
I used to daily mine with a 6 puck button clutch. It drove (to me) like a factory clutch. Roll it off the mark all like normal, no jerking, no bucking. Hilariously no one else could drive it without dialling up about 3,000rpm and chirping the tyres off the mark, or stalling it. It's all about getting used to it.

So you're now accepting offers of 10% more than the cost of the turbo kit fitted? -

January or Feb is it booked in for turbo fitment? -
The front foot path. There's a little Asian bloke that drives around with a ute all the time. Lucky to have anything vaguely metal left on the footpath within 4 hours.

You're selling the SS?! How much are you asking on it?

R34 oil and timing belt change
MBS206 replied to drifter17a's topic in General Automotive Discussion
My answer would be, that depends. If it's something that can be grumpy to start, runs a bit rich, and is likely an expensive engine, then yes, I would. But there's a few reasons why. Sumps aren't really sealed, there is airways to them, so it is technically open to moisture. Secondly, if as mentioned it has been started, and it's a fuelled up, I'd dump it, as chances are, fuel is in the oil. Next to that comes, how much use had said oil seen before it was parked up. IE, how much carbon, and potentially fuel/water did get in there while it was being used, and has now been allowed to sit, and slowly come together? For the most part, if it's just been something like a road car, stock engine, nothing wild, f**king send it if it's not near oil change spec. -
I forgot to say Mark, you know how if you lack sleep, we get Grumpy Mark? When I lack sleep I'm Grumpy Matt. We must be the GrumpMa's!

I wonder if I can convince the boss to buy them and then take his Senator to the drags...

We're meant to be useful?!

If I don't do this, people want to be around me even less than normal. 8 hours is a minimum requirement...
-
I'm 22 years younger than you mark, and I'm operating in the exact same way! Ha ha ha

PRP RB26 cast block + head prototype running
MBS206 replied to joshuaho96's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
It makes you wonder, all these people starting to make a billet replacement head, I wonder if any have thought about trying to adapt tech from newer engines into them. You're already at the full design stage to make a billet head... Why not really spice it up and had some more modern tech into the mix too... -
Connect all the plumbing up properly. The actual worst part about having the turbo unable to actually build boost, is you can and likely would over soon the turbo if you drove the car (free rev while stationary isnt likely to manage it). If you do have an air leak as Duncan suggested, you'll have a bad time as the AFM will be saying different to reality. As you have had the engine out, I'd go over all electrical connections again. If you have a consult cable, plug it in, and see what the ECU thinks is going on. Did you touch the timing belt? If so, double check your timing on the gears is correct AND put a timing light on it while it's idling and see what ignition setting you have. Is the AFM you've installed the one that was in the car previously? You said you replaced seals, what seals exactly? What have you had apart? From memory when I had my RB25DET with factory throttle, there was two plugs the TPS plug on the loom could go to. One would leave the car running like shit, the other made it work, I think one plug on the TPS area was for something else (an option). It's too many years since I saw that part of the loom to remember properly though. Is the car idling smooth (as smooth as an RB can)? Does it smell fuelled up? I have a feeling either timing in timing belt is off, or a sensor isn't right.

Theres still skid pan and motokhana days up in QLD at least that are $100 or less. The ones that are ran as "driver training" less so, they're expensive, but just normal skid pan days like SAU ran are still low cost. And thats one of the places I learned to be a lariken, purely by asking for passenger rides, and how people were doing crazy things. Reese gave me plenty of pointers back in the day for skid pan! And yes Duncan, I will never forget your pointers for track work. Especially after Neil got out saying "I am NEVER getting in the car with him again!" 😛

I go back to, skip the concrete, we just need smooth dirt/grass... You weld us up one of those huge take like things you buy at Bunnings for spreading dirt nicely, except we'll tow it behind a car instead of push by hand. 😛
-
Maybe SAUNSW could see howany members would do a motorkhana day if Schofield's is still available for a reasonable price...
-
Skip the concrete, we just need to smooth a field. Mark knows how to drive a grader Duncan I reckon 100x100 flat area for skid pan style, and then some sort tracks for rally... Duncan's already got a rally car on the premises to...
