Want To Write An Ecu Diagnostics Program
bubba replied to deano27's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The guys at PLMS Developments are great to deal with. -
www.frontlinehobbies.com.au and www.towerhobbies.com They are the two places I used when not going to a LHS or looking for specialist items.

After the airflow meter but before the turbo.

Have just spent an extra 4k that I wasn't orginally planning to so I'd rather not spend $_$ on new cams unless I can really, really justify it.. Just for some comparison, these cams in this head made 490rwhp @ 22psi with a pair of 2540's.. I've had a mechanical engineer tell me to use the 20DET cams over the 25DE.. not sure on the justification though. Craked, PM sent.
-
OK guys, things are progessing quite steadily and am wondering what to do with my cams (am not forking out for huge cams and a solid lifter conversion). Stumbled across this cam info again and am trying to figure out whether to stick with the 25DE cams or whether a combination of 20DE/20DET/25DE cams would be better.. RB20DET Ex - 240 duration, 7.8 lift, opens 60 BBDC, closes TDC, LCA 120 In - 240 duration, 7.8 lift, opens 5 BTDC, closes 55 ABDC, LCA 115 overlap = 5, LSA = 117.5 RB20DE Ex - 240 duration, 7.8 lift, opens 57 BBDC, closes 3ATDC, LCA 117 In - 232 duration, 7.3 lift, opens 5 BTDC, closes 47 ABDC, LCA 111 overlap = 8, LSA = 114 (R32) RB25DE Ex - 232 duration, 7.3 lift, opens 54 BBDC, closes 2 BTDC, LCA 118 In - 240 duration, 7.8 lift, opens 9 BTDC, closes 51 ABDC, LCA 111 overlap = 7, LSA = 114.5 Relevant specs of the engine are: RB25/30 (R32 RB25DE head) Stock RB25DE (R32) cams GT35R 0.82 exh housing 6boost manifold 50mm gate Rev limit will be 7500rpm and looking at somewhere around 500rwhp. Can someone with a good working knowledge of cams in RB engines please help!

Thankfully, the hoops you have to jump threw to get a paintball marker also keeps a lot of the dickheads out of the sport! Pity cars aren't treated teh same as firearms (both are just as capable of killing someone, and at the end of the day the car or gun is just a tool and the person behind the wheel/trigger is the weak point). Anyway, as entertaining as this was, we should probably stop whoring this guys thread

Hmmk. I'm going to go with the High-Energy Pro-circuit sump still
-
I have already given this some serious thought and didn't feel the need to go into capital required, insurance, staffing etc. It was more the concept that I was trying to convey. I agree that there will always be dickheads and you will NEVER manage to educate them all to a sufficient level that the plebbery on the streets ceases to exist. If, somehow, you did manage to to get all the dickheads to participate in properly organised activities, do you think the current outlets would cope? Lastly, the reason I shot down your analogy is because it isn't all properly organised events and I guess, that is the crux of my whole argument. Why does it have to be so "organised"? A venue that catered for peoples whims and randomness is what I believe would help alleviate the plebbery. That, of course, is just my opinion. I'm all for education, but really, that doesn't work as effectively as most would like to think. I believe in also offering alternatives, and effective ones at that.

What is ASR?

You missed the point again, or you just aren't even bothering to read what I'm typing. Obviously everything that is currently in place is not effective enough because there is still blatantly too many dickheads on the road doing stupid stuff. I was suggesting further measures, not taking the approach that "there is already enough". Give them somewhere to get the sillies out that won't affect the general public. Is that such a bad idea? And please don't bring up paintball in regards to this topic again as you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. There are many different styles of paintball you can play, ranging from social spur of the moment games (rock up at a field and have a shoot) through to organised national level competition (of which I partake). Thus, you should be able to see how your paintball analogies contradict what you are trying to say.

Sorry Charles, the Stag doesn't get tracked If my 32 is ready by the time this happens I will gladly come along and put on a show
-
Here's an analogy for you all, skaters. The public got sick of skaters skating all over their footpaths/benches/whatever, so they built them skate parks. Somewhere to skate where they can only hurt themselves and not piss off the public.
-
My point is that you can't just rock up to ANY of those places, spur of the moment. A facility where you CAN just rock up unannounced, is what is really needed to get the bulk of the idiots off the street. Even then, you will still get dickheads. And that analogy is stupid. We live in Australia, not America. You can't just walk into Walmart and buy a paintball gun here. Please don't use stupid analogies that you clearly know nothing about as paintball is far more regulated in this country than driving will ever be. P.S. you all too.

While I agree with a lot of points, I disagree that there is ample places/events to take your car for some fun. No Limits etc up at Barbagallo's is $_$ with limited spots. Collie is too far away and you need a large group to book the track. Speed Dome? only organised sprint events that I know of.. AHG is good if you've got a group together but you can't just rock up and drop some skids. Some people don't have the time or money to commit to "competing" and the non-competitive events don't happen regularly and require a fair amount of forethough. Not like the Friday night "lets chuck some skids" sort of thing, which is very much part of being Australian! There needs to be a place which is open every day until late, you can rock up and pay a nominal fee (say $20 or so) and have the skidpan for 15mins or so. Chuck your skids in an environment that is safer than some back street in an industrial area and leave without fear of being persecuted because you like a good burnout.

Trying to figure out what controls the speed sensitive steering in my R32 for a couple of reasons.. First being that I would like to turn it off for track days (could just pull the plug from the HICAS computer I guess). Secondly, I would like my Stagea to have the same sort of speed sensitive steering.. definitely needs to be heavier at high speed. Is it purely electronically controlled? or is there special valving or something involved? /discuss

Nice work Charles!

It suprises me why people don't start the engines to make sure they at least start and idle properly.. we started my mates apprentices' RB25 when it was still in the halfcut just to make sure everything was in working order.
-
That's not very nice.. my old TT01 got run over in the carpark outside my mates workshop.. stupid cow came fanging round the corner and front wheel then back wheel over my r/c I'll put a battery on charge this arvo and try get some footage before it gets dark!

Before you bother doing ANYTHING to fix the problem, swap the coils around to figure out which one is the problem. It could be a coil OR the harness, swapping them about should help diagnose which it is.

+1 Size and location of restrictors is dependant on head and oil pump used aswell as intended application.

High Energy make their RB30 sumps to fit into skylines. The old design would have clashed with the swaybar in a skyline (have one at the workshop, was off my RB30 when it was in my mates commodore), I measured up my mates one and rang High Energy to begin explaining what I needed (a 50mm 45deg chamfer off the leading edge of the extension) and he was like "oh, we already do that now for all RB25 and RB30 sumps". I will be getting a pro-circuit High Energy sump, was meant to already be got but decided to get some Spool rods and needed to get a 6boost manifold Edit: can't see anything about baffles & gates in that JPC sump..

Too much grip or not enough power..
