  1. Purely for drag, can't go past a manualised powerglide + transbrake.. my mates commodore with powerglide, 5000rpm histall and transbrake FYI (to expand on what was said above) transbrakes engage first & reverse to allow you to load the engine up and build boost so you can launch at full boost
  2. Sounds like a plan! But srsly, Paul needs to get in touch with his inner bogan!
  3. The steering isn't manual, it's electronically controlled hydraulic assit (power steering), over ~80kmh the steering gets heavier so that it requires more input at higher speed.
  4. I don't care who he is or how experienced you think he is, what he did on the cruise was fucking stupid. End of story.
  5. Because they wanted to see SAUWA there but weren't willing to step up themselves? I'm 100% for the next one (with or without SAUWA), Paulie wanna come drop some skids with me?
  6. Yeah Borneos' car.. fkn hot and it's a 25/30 too so it must be a winnah I thought I had Steve Jones' 34 dropping the huge skid on video but I must have been a douche when filming as it's not there I do have the fight that happened during the burnout comp and VERY clear footage of the stubby bouncing of a guys head! lol
  7. smoke machine lol I saw the switch but the look on Dens face had me going!
  8. Maybe the skyliners were afraid they wouldn't be able to drop a decent skid.. afterall, that's what motorvation is all about
  9. It probably would but I'm not spinning the thing as high as the RB20 and peak power with the new turbo shouldn't be as high as the RB20 was so should still be fine. Big duration cams and a bigger turbo again (T04Z) and you'd probably want the 4.3's to help get the thing on boost.. If the 3.9s are a bit too tall to be able to drop 4th with the new turbo I might have to go back to 4.3s (got a real itchin' to show up the v8 boys in the burnout comp at motorvation next year lol)
  10. I'll be there next year, whether as part of SAU or not I dunno. P.S. Steve Jones' 34 drops a mean skid lol
  11. Doesn't feel out of sync at all, I usually only rev to 5500rpm so the ratios work pretty well with the current setup. Have had the 30 with the small turbo and the 3.9's for over a year now and it's great. As for the ratios and the bigger turbo, only time will tell! I have my old diff here if I need to change back.. I shouldn't think I'll have much problem spooling the GT35R up so hopefully the 3.9's just make for bigger burnouts
  12. 1. Are we talking purely engine here? To date (current setup) about 3.5k for a forged RB25/30, stock rods, serviced R32 RB25DE head, N1 oil pump, 550cc injectors, z32 afm then about $600 for the remap. Another 3.5k in parts are about to go on to make 400rwhp (GT35R, TiAl 44mm gate, exh mani, custom plenum, gtr cooler/bovs/piping, oil cooler), budgeting 1k for buying bits of pipe, getting the ENZED guy out etc etc and looks like 1.2k on the High Energy sump heh ^^ This is phase 2, phase 1 was getting the basic 30 (with all the RB20 ancillaries bolted on) in the car, running and registered. **Phase 3 may involve 3.4L crank 2. 245rwhp @ 4600rpm (same power as my RB20 made but not at 6500rpm ) Rb25 turbo that chokes the motor up at 5800rpm 3. Pretty much all of it with help assembling the internals (I more watched and learned for that part ) Edit: the amount of torque and response in a little 32 with suspension and fun things such as button clutch and 2-way makes for a very entertaining ride!
  13. Yeah I did it after the 30 went in. 4.3's were very "brutal" with my setup.. with it making it's power so early and falling over at 5800rpm it was rather violent acceleration with too many gear changes (would also spin 3rd in the dry, something I can't get it to do with the 3.9s now even with shitty tyres, on a track obviously ). With the 3.9s it's not as neck-snapping, gave me some speed back in each gear but most importantly it made it a lot NICER to drive and makes more use of the abundance of torque. When I first changed, it was very noticable but now it's just normal as far as I'm concerned I will be interested to see how the taller gears go with the new turbo when I actually have some lag again.. might be a different story..
  14. Anyone know how RB25DE cams differ from RB25DET? I remember seeing a list of stock cam specs on here a while ago but can't for the life of me find them Upgraded cams is a 2.5k excercise I can't justify/afford yet
  15. You could say that about almost any engine build.. As for extra machining costs for a 30, what you have mentioned is only a few hundred dollars worth.. tapping/drilling tensioner locations isn't a big deal. Longnose mod on crank can be done without a collar for about $100 if you machinist knows what he's doing. There was also enough slack in my piping that I didn't have to modify to suit the extra 38mm deck height. I only had to modify the piping for clearances reasons as the bonnet didn't shut! Depending on setup, the only pipe that I can see almost definitely needing modded is the dump pipe, but really, that's not a huge deal. If you're doing a full forged rebuild of an engine, then the cost of going 30 is negligible when compared to the rest of the rebuild costs. And 3L torque is a no brainer P.S. Ash, nice once, I've got taller gears though so when I'm talking 2000rpm.. I talking 60kph ish. Likewise if I let it slack off a bit I have to downshift.. 1500rpm up a hill just doesn't quite do it hehe. I do love putting along at under 1000rpm in the morning while the car warms up though
  16. N1 definitely runs much higher pressures when stock, but I believe they have a 100psi relief spring as I never see over 100psi (100 on cold start, when warm 10psi @ idle and 100psi over 5000rpm).
  17. Nice, does it pull hard? or pulls enough to not have to downshift?
  18. +1 +1 +1 Low down torque monster is pretty much the definition of my engine in it's current setup.. RB25/30 with RB25 turbo, lets see your 20/25/26 pull up a hill at 2000rpm in 5th gear lol
  19. If you don't/can't fork out for a PFC then look into a remap.
  20. Wiseco forgies, N1 oil pump, 550cc injectors, z32 afm, 044 fuel pump, remapped stock ecu, stock RB25DE cams, custom forward facing plenum & Q45 throttlebody (plenum/throttlebody go on with turbo). Srsly, it should do it without breaking a sweat and the driveline is all done too (except for clutch.. current button clutch should be fine on the street but if I wanted to throw some slicks on and take it down the strip.. or drop 4th gear standstills.. I'll probably need to go multiplate!).
  21. I got a quote from JC a few months ago, $1100/year, $450 excess for an accident and $1450 excess for fire/theft (that's with ALL my mods, they wanted an itemised list and photos before they would agree to more than 13k though).
  22. Yeah well only have standard rods at the moment and the setup should make 300rwkw easy got a 9psi spring for my gate so will get my tuner to start at 9psi and bump it up until it makes 300rwkw. The whole shebang should be good for ~400rwkw but I don't want to go there yet
