  1. haha your seriously considering taking a tvr to veitnam??? crazy! A T350 was recently up on carsales for over $90k, gone in like a month. If the budget can stretch though get the sagaris.
  2. spotted a nice feature on your car over on speedhunters, clicky great photos!
  3. Absolute weapon of a gtr trundling along burwood hwy up to Ferntree Gully Nissan (stalked you in the daily from Springy rd...) White, carbon hood, roof, boot, massive gt wing, I think black ce28's (could be wrong though), sponser stickers everywhere, race no. 35, nsw plates, M.Tauber on the quarter windows. Is this the same gtr that recently destroyed phillip island? Hats off to you mate, car looks fantastic!
  4. we know the story behind it too, the owner made a thread about it explaining everything & has even posted several times in this thread... but by all means keep everyone posted on what it goes for
  5. yeah if you want automotive you've gotta go to monash, I think they're the only uni in australia that teach auto design & clay modelling. Holden actually sponser the 'clay room' & their chief of modelling & fabrication, Mike Chester, teaches the students plus theres is currently 3 former senior designers from ford in the i.d. faculty. Like I said earlier, companies pay a lot of attention to monash students during their final year(s) which makes it heaps easier getting work. Also for anyone doing i.d. (regardless of uni) make sure you apply for the co-op positions at holden/ford, they have a few each, as they are almost a guaranteed job once you graduate (unless your useless...) Mr windsurf you say your ok with computer modelling, if you have any skills with alias autostudio holden & ford are both hiring right now (plus designers, clay modellers, colour/trim, etc.) so check the ads on seek & contact flexitech. cheers, tim
  6. haha yeah nothing on telly so im reading everything for a change! Jobs arent too bad, i.d. is pretty good in that you come out being able to go into a heap of different design areas. for example from my year, couple guys went to i.d. companies in melb (companies that do basically all kinds of work for clients), ones designing characters/environments for a video game company in port melbourne, few doing furniture design, ones working for dyson in the uk, couple doing web design, another went to italy to do his masters (now working there) & a heap of us went into automotive. 3 are designers (1 holden, 1 ford, 1 merc in china but previously honda in japan), 1's a photoshop artist at ford, 4 or 5 are alias modellers (ford, holden, hsv, they do all the 3d computer modelling during design process) & me & a mate got clay modelling jobs at ford. We make the concept/proto-type cars out of clay, generally all full size & do interiors too. There is heaps of auto work overseas, generally contract based, & pretty easy to move around once you've got about 5yrs experience. Auto design took a massive beating during gfc but pretty much back to full speed again (here & o.s.), I've been out of ford for about 18mths now (I worked on fords new t6 ranger so finished up at end of program) & have just been sluming it in factories since but as i said its all good again, currently have 2 offers & just working out where i wanna go. As i said earlier i dont venture into vic wasteland all that often so if you/your bro have any questions about i.d. at monash or just in general shoot me a pm. cheers, Tim
  7. Industrial Design at Monash is super popular & is a massive pain in the ass to get into. I've done it & my little brothers doing it now but neither of us got straight in, I started a mech eng/design degree (also at monash) & then transfered across & bro did a couple year furniture design course through RMIT then got in when he re-applied. Tell your brother to keep at it though as monash is the ducks nuts for I.D., the majority of people go and do something else first to build up their folio which makes it heaps easier, northland college is pretty popular i think. The main issue is they take stuff all people, think there was 25 in my year, when i did eng there was hundreds of people in a class! But at the end of the day its worth it, think only 3/4 people from my year didnt walk straight into work after graduation & if you want to get into the automotive field its your best shot by a long way.
  8. no idea dude, never owned a gtr (wouldn't say no though!), all I'm saying is 300's aren't as bad as all the people that dont own them like to say... like I said 7yrs owning one, mostly dailyed, & the only drama was a wonky afm. took the engine out to change it though whichever way the op goes though as long as he spends the coin to buy a decent one rather than a clapped out cheapy he's going to get a really nice car.
  9. yep, replaced the slave cylinder & bleed the clutch in my drive, with the missus, in under an hour. Surprisingly managed to leave the engine where nissan intended too as for specialist mech's how many do you need? Most people do the majority of work themselves anyway but for example in vic theres 3 in melbourne (glen iris, vermont, bullen) & another in geelong. There's enough info in the aus300zx tech section to do pretty much anything yourself anyway. end of the day they're fairly different cars but you can have a really nice TT zed for mid teens.
  10. They're a really nice car, yes I'm biased, but if your interested do some research on aus300zx.com As long as the cars well maintained you wont have any dramas with overheating or anything like that & there's a few zed specialist mechanics in pretty much every state that do great work. oh & 7 years ownership = no engine out
  11. As others have said they're definately lm-gt3's. Also nismo wheels are made by rays.
  12. Just because the outer parts look/are the same doesn't mean the dampning units, thats all the import inside bits that you cant see, are the same. Both brands will source their gear from the same factory, its possible that pedders option a better dampning unit with better valving or its also possible that its pedders, that company known for enthusiastic pricing, & they've just got a nice profit in them.
  13. Few yankie photos I saw & thought others might like...
  14. I doubt they would dave, they're quite a shallow design & are held in place by an 'O' ring rather than the larger style clips like the ones you posted a photo of. I'd be contacting a couple importers like streeter, or theres a load that are sponsers here & on nissansilvia, & just asking if they can track you down a few. They might have better contacts then just keeping your eye on yahoo japan. That said its also worth looking at upgarage.com & gooparts.com in case theres some listed there. cheers, Tim
  15. haven't got a photo of my exact caps but in the photo below its the flat style. Jesse is an import agent, google his name for his website & do a sau or nissansilvia search for some feedback. I've used him before & service was great. Importmonsters great for you to find stuff but Jesse might be able to track things down for you. good luck!
  16. Just to clarify the ones I made that fell out in the sun where made out of a 2 part urethane. I made the mould out of silicon, then cast a bunch of parts. The flat caps are relatively thin though which didnt help things. My experience with rapid pro is with stereolithography (SLA) & Objet parts, both of which while excellent for static models/displays are no good for general use. From a quick look at that link though the FDM parts do sound a lot more durable so you might be ok. My other experience with rapid pro parts though is that they arent cheap, especially if you need someone to scan or create your caps in cad. Dave when you say the wrong size are we talking diametre? If so what do you need? Just be aware a lot of rays caps are interchangable, for instance the ones I bought were off 17" te37's but fit perfect on my 18" lmgt4's. Perhaps email jesse streeter & see if he can track some down? cheers, Tim
  17. I tried making a few of the rays flat caps for my lmgt4's a while back, made a 2 part silicon mould of one of my existing caps & knocked up a load of fakies. Got the painter at work to colour match them to my bronze wheels then spent about $35 on the O-rings. Chucked them on & they looked perfect, how smart am I, these things are worth like $40 each new, I could make a load & sell them! driving round a few days later & it was nice & sunny, plastic warmed up with the heat & they fell out... Luckily I found a set of real ones for sale & just sucked it up & bought them. With the rapid prototype parts are you talking about using them to make a mould or are you actually getting a few made up to use as the actual centre caps? Just because rapid pro parts are actually reasonably brittle, oh & they dont like heat/sunlight as it tends to make them fall apart. We had a machine when I worked at ford design & we pumped out heaps of parts but they're only good for static displays, you wont be able to use them on your actual car. have you tried looking on yahoo japan? Because I just did & found two ads, same seller but selling them individually. one cap two cap cheers, Tim
  18. Unbelievably he had a passenger & they both walked away with only a little bruising! I went in & picked up the front brakes the other day, seller was a top guy, really helpful.
  19. i would've assumed it was because someone else did it
  20. all I can offer is Z32 300zx is interchangable with R32 GTR & GTS4, you've covered the essentials anyway, well done!
  21. sorry should be 'forged monoblock' & 'made in japan'
  22. are you sure? have never seen a nismo sticker like that, in fact lmgt4s dont have nismo stickers (inside the wheel), there should be a rays sticker with size, offset, date made, model, etc like all rays made wheels. do they have 'forged' & 'made by rays' embosed on the front of the wheels? would be where the dish steps.
  23. guys he posted the ad twice & pics are in the other one clicky, they're bronze though. Pretty nicely priced too, good luck!
  24. would it be possible to just chuck a request in the nsw section to test fit somebody's wheels? As you've said not to many shops are going to have a set just sitting there waiting (unless one of the importers have brought some used ones in?) The p-45r's are copies of the nismo lmgt4's, also i'm confused, yes there's only 5 spokes but they're thicker so why would they be weaker than the grid drifts??? Also for a couple hundred extra you could have a used set of real lmgt4's instead of rotas, just a thought...
