Mark, Warren and I went to the skid pan yesterday afternoon to do maintence (we like to help when we can!) while we were there, we discussed the next tech session.. The outcome is totally useless on the road.. but megga fun. We will be learning how to do a controlled loose, 360 degree turn and drive out! thoughts..

Well, I'm Aaron.. not a total newby, but anyhow..... I like to drive anything with wheels.. or a steering wheel anyhow. Currently own a series one R33 with Calsonic down the sides of it. (Thats a long story!) I run skid days in Gympie at the roadcraft driver ed centre.. PM me for info. I'm also building a mini-off road buggy. Thats all

good thing he owns a ford then, and doesn't own a nissan.. we might have to do things to prevent him from touching another car.. Anybody seen the new 'Roush Mustang'? Performax International (Corvette Qld) have the new Shelby GT's, I gotta admit, the Shelby touch is VERY visable! I have not been able to see under the bonnet yet.. but i suspect its a supercharged version! Speeking of the Shelby, They also have a full black, no chrome.. totally sinister looking, darth vader type of a beast out the front.. it 'looks' mean.. really MEAN. Everything is black, even the light sorrounds, grill and.. well everything is BLACK! If I remember.. I'll take a foto next week. Cant wait to see one cruising down the road..

How about this.. Invite the cat back.. bear with me on this one ok.. Feed the thing with as much milk and cookies it and its mates can consume. Then when the cat and his mates are fat and lazy.. skin the little monsters and recover ur old seats! i bet 2 things would happen.. 1: That cat will NEVER do that again 2: ALL other cats will know what happened and stay well clear! lol.. I had a cat pi$$ in my old turbo VL once.. I tried everything that i could think of, some old wives receipies and commercial crap as well. I got rid of the smell when the wheather was fine, but when it got muggy... well, I didn't drive the car anywhere! Cos when i did, MORE cats would do the same. yep.. a good cat is a rug or car seat cover!

Points system for skid season 2008! Time trial: 1st 25 points 2nd 20 points 3rd 17 4th 15 5th 13 6th 10 7th 8 9th 4 10th 2 11th place or more gets 1 point DNF 0 points. Crash -2 points! for the shoot out: 1st 11 points 2nd 7 3rd 5 4th 3 everybody else gets 1 point. It is possible for 1 driver to be the fastest in both time trials and win the shoot out and win the max available 61 points. Each time trial event will be allocated points. So, if u win the first time trial u will get 25 points, then u get 6th in the second round u will get another 10 points. Then if u come 3rd in the shoot out u will get another 5 points. That makes u a total of 40 points. There is a prize for the highest points score of the day! Your points will be acrewed over the year and the winner will get the piston trophy at the end of the year! Consistantcy will be the key.. Keep it smooth and tidy. Speed is fine, but accuaricy is final. Like it? -
The list has just been updated and corrected. Unfortunatly RoadCraft (the skid pan owners) have had to change 2 dates on me later in the year.. It appears the dates will only be moved foward or back 1 week. I will post up again when all is clear and who it will effect. But at this stage, only 2 dates late in the year are effected.

As far as I am aware.. RevHead has started a thread in the members section for the SAU exclusive skid days. Contact him for bookings and payment details. Don't cry to me if you miss out! You have been told early.. I doubt spots will last long for either day. -
that is so true.. I run skid days up here in Gympie (north of brizzy) on wet concrete.. My rear tyres have a max pressure of 45 psi, and I run them on 45 psi! And thats on WET concrete! Personally, I only use the hand brake when i screw up or need a megga tight turn. The skyline is more than well equipped to give a good outcome.. even just for fun! The diff may not be to happy if you do to many of these days on the black stuff.. but if your not to hard on the old girl she should cope ok. I still have the stock diff, and mine has done 18 skid days now. I use weight shift to help it slide, then GENTLY apply some power. That and the high tyre pressure really helps. I like to slide more than be quick! I do it for fun as well! aaarrgghhh hahahaha! I love doing scando flicks and large power slides. The diff only works really hard when the tyres cant spin. Like when the car is coming into or out of a slide. once the traction on the tyre is broken, its easy for the diff to spin the 2 tyres. that help?

Duran Duran groopies? how old are you man?? but I hear ya! Today was a very weird for me.. I didn't see one crazy thing! Probably because I spent most of the day fitting a new timing belt and stuff. But yesterday I saw a late model lancer wagon with.. well, i think NO springs! none at all. looks like it is bouncing off its bump stops! Where are the cops when u need them!
-
Last time i got pulled up.. Mr plod asked for a breath test and told me to buzz off! I said, "here is my plastic" he said, 'go, before i find something to book you for' huh? find something? what the? In my humble little town (Gympie), I havn't been pulled over in.. hmm.. 2.5 years! I drive it quite in the hot spots, stay AWAY from the night clubs and just lift my foot when they drive past so the car sounds queiter. It is just over legal DB and i know it. but the new laws suck!
-
I followed a winnabego today.. that sucks! but can somebody please explain y such a slow, underpowered, pentioner insipered vehicle like that would be towing a MASSIVE caravan? Isn't the whole concept derived from the fact that u don't need to drag a van? I'm confused..
-
Yea thanks Marc.. I saw an old muscle car in the wreckers the other day that I used to see when i was yonger.. It was a real machine in its day. was a tuff 351 (I'm not a ford man either!) shacker, B&M shifter and trans kit, big wheels(for its day), big exhaust and all the usual guages. The wrecker bought it for.. get this.. $1000. the guages are still worth that! Now thats a car that should be put back together and put back on the street! We will swap it for 15 snot rockets.. hahahaha!
-
Mate, I hope somebody snaps you in half and jams u sideways into a chinese muffler and turns the key on and revs the little snot box up to 6500rpm and burns your poor, sad, little man syndrome butt! Buzz off if your not interested in adding relivant material.. on topic: Spotted a poor sad VL ss yesterday. being driven very hard by a backward hat wearing noob with 3 dweebs. 2 different chromed hub caps, black front bumper which was half ripped off, pass door was kicked in and only 1 of the 4 brake lights worked. But the humble old 5L sounded pritty darned good for her age! it had a custom puff of oil smoke on gear changes.. the sadest thing was it had chopped springs. it was bottoming out everywhere on our wonderful roads!

Ye old whore town freaks... get back over there! My puta is in the shop.. it had a melt down. I come back to see thread hi-jacked by kids and boats. What the? I see it like this: 1: Shut up untill u go to a race, drift or skid pan type of a track. Then carry on about who's car is a dunger. 2: Kids should be sent to the naughty corner... even older kids! (Noel) I am currently building an off road mini buggy.. a very mean spirited type of thing. It has plans, but i think they are way to weak for my kind of off roading! I know my mates( ..and I, will get carried away).. this poor thing will get its nuts revvvvved off, jump high enough to scare all of you and enough power to drag a modist skyline. I am taking a race car approach to the build. I am planning on a 1200cc engine. if it doesn't go fast enough.. there is always boost! Now, it wont be for the road.. but almost as crazy as an rb25 in an mgb! ohh, speaking of which, I met an old Canadian engineer who put a 350 chev into an mg. could have been an mgb. he even fitted posi-track! hahaha But just goes go show that with some thought and homework, you can plug all sorts of weird stuff together.. but that doesn't mean you should.. me included!

That was a crazy concpt car.. not a very good on either! I didn't see this, but was told by a very animated Gas mechanic: A toyota side mount supercharger on an EA falcon which was on LPG! He said it poped and farted at idle, didn't make any power above 3500 and chewed (in his opinion) about 20% to much gas.. and of course it was a slush box. The car was in for a tune up and he wanted to fit a very large FMIC. The owner 'loved' the 'racecar' sound! aaaaarrggghhh hahhhahahaha.. The mechanic rang me to see if i had some parts lying around we could sell him!! I said that was just a little to cruel. but then again..?

Hole in one Marc! I was at Marks yesterday (My drivng instructor mate), he said... A poor uninformed 17 year old went for a test with next to zero driving time and only one lesson.. He really thought that he could A: Drive, and B: Pass! Now if he had passed, there would be yet another person on the road with no concept of how to drive, how to stay alive and not kill either his car or others. I have been lucky enough to chat to a few new drivers. All but one have made it painfully clear that its not overly hard to pass the test, and that they didn't 'really' learn much. They all said they learnt what to do to pass the test.. but thats it. how SAD! Perhaps a car group as big as ours should apply some pressure to the powers at be..

At the end of the day.. all said and done, the most often killed people on our roads are teenagers! Now, the biggest question is, what do YOU as a club/forum/person/car~nutter do about it?? I personally beleive that it is way to easy to obtain a road going licence. There is very limited time for driving instructors to impart information into the youth and properly educate them in proper road driving techniques that will 'help' keep them alive. The other thing that drives me totally crazy is that there is no standard for driving instructors. I recently come across a guy who just got his bit of plastic from DOT, that was TAUGHT some very crazy driving moves.. Sure the horsepower rule is goin to help, but the education behind it is non-existant. If anybody was actually serious about reducing the road toll of the 18-25's, they would educate them. When you look at all the deaths on our roads, how many are actually hoon related? Its the 18-25's that die the most, and they are also the next generation of car modders.. us older guys included, I am amazed when people turn up to a skid day with ZERO concept of how to drive, and how to set up a car so it actually gets grip in adverse conditions. No-body talks about that! In an odd way, I'm glad ACA turn up the heat.. maybe enough people will think about it and get something done.

What the? what happened to you as a child..? rover and supercharger SHOULD NOT be used in the same book, let alone sentence! lol. how is it working out for ya? if nothing else.. it should really go. poor little mighty boy! What did it do to u? My father in law has one for a parts getter for his workshop.. he has asked me a few times about giving it a going over.. i never considered a rover! i did think about an R1 engine though! ha ha.. ...years ago, i met a guy on fraser island with a lada neva with a chev(i think, he was real cagey about it) V6 in it. I thought that was nuts! engine was worth at least 20 times the vehicle! But it did make 4 wheel roosts.

It is interesting that more people die on an 'average' weekend in the USA from car crashes, than we loose in a whole year. Now, factor in that alot of them don't wear seat belts, have a higher drink driving percentage (0.10%) and the sheer number of people on their roads. Sure they have air bags.. now look at Japan! Please don't trust me, check it out! The difference isn't speeding, or road quality (which does help), but car numbers! The Japs use alot more public transport. USA relies on their roads.. What are we doin? Hoons don't help the numbers.. or with the politians!

Most of the Joe Blow public, cannot tell the difference between a hoon and a car enthusiast! simple. I would be more interested in testing their (TT/ACA reporters) driving skills against some of us 'hoons'. Now that would be a story! put the car into a spin.. watch them totally freak out and do something that is fundamentaly wrong like let go of the steering wheel! watch them screw up the whole indicator thing on round-a-bouts and laugh like a little school girl when they try and reverse park! Every story told is all about the perception of the content of the story. Use the above as a guide, it would be very easy to make a story about useless reporters who are a unable to properly control a car and should have their licence revoked! enough of glamourised reporting.. I think repeat offenders should loose their cars.. but not chrush them. Sell them! And cut up their little bit of plastic for a year! On the other hand, if the government were really serious about this (instead of just making $$$) they would build more places like burnout pads, race -tracks, skid-pans and stuff to help get the idiots off the street. This approach will only remove a certain amount of 'hoons'.. as for the rest, book them!

There have been some shuffling of names.. Some things have changed. I will edit the 'list' post next week! Don't fret, nobody has lost a spot! If you spot an error, please pm me!
