my 45mm gate was atmo.. The cops pulled me up and we had a VERY loooong talk about it! Luckily they didn't know what they were looking at, and I got away with it! Its plumed back now, but I had a few boost issues for a while. My screamer was a 42mm pipe. so i just joined it up near the cat. but boost was creeping very fast even on low boost. then I went to a 50mm. It holds on low boost now. I put it down to the fact that the gate does more work on low boost, and the extra gas was just too much for the smaller pipe. ohh, I put a flex joint in the WG pipe, but i keep cracking the manifold at the collector where the WG pipe feeds from. I will be fitting a brace between the dump pipe, WG dump and engine VERY soon! something to be mindful of..

aarghh hah ha ha..! What do u think now?

What the? I've read some weird stuff on here.. But this thread is just too much.. Lets sort this out.. 1: Maybe the first thing you buy for your car is a language converter! 2: You may need to buy (if it exists) an Ozzy male petrolhead slang version! lol 3: Then you can translate into real english! 4: Then you will get some staight answers. 5: After you do steps 1-4, we might understand each other Just a thought!

i know an SR20 with the 3040 and has 400+rwhp and is still going strong on Pump fuel! The overall HP is not so critical. But throttle responce is. If I only get to 405, that will do me. 3L, cams and 3040. it will be very strong lower in the rev range.. That is exactly what I want. Thanks for your help.. Cheers. Aaron

I am after a Naca duct. Thats the tear drop looking duct that goes in the bonnet. Farrari, lotus and similar cars have them. The GTR V-Spec 11 has one! Even the old ford XA gt had them.. Does anybody know where i can get a high quality one from? Just one! Metal or carbon fibre. Cheers Aaron

maybe run it on gun powder! ha ha ha lol or nitrogliserine!

Thats what I was saying.. But does running cooler water and oil temps for the turbo help or hinder it? That is the real question? bonnet vent.. yea i want one. Like a naca duct. Know of any?
-
Hey SK, would not the slightly cooler water temp 'absorb' some of the latent heat stored in the turbos bearings and prolong the life of the turbo? I see you point about the 750+ degree heat in the turbine, but ask yourself, why did garrett go from using just the oil for lubrication and cooling, to water and oil? To help the bearings live longer. Can the oil being fed to the turbo be slightly cooler than the engine if the engine has already cooked out the moisture? What i'm pointing at is this, could/would it work more efficiently with lower water and oil temps at the turbo to reduce the core temp and help the turbo live longer.. Cooler oil WILL prevent the turbo from spinning as easily because it would be thincker..! but the oil also absorbs a massive amount of heat, as does the water. Your engine uses water from the radiator at a much lower temp than the engine is running at, why then cannot the turbo? If you could measure the outlet temp of the water coming out of the turbo, then compare that to the engines heat.. then add the cooler and do the same. that would end this part of the discussion! thoughts..? I'm looking at a naca duct. I have not been able to find a good one yet.. The R34 GTR V-Spec 11 and Nur edition have one in the bonnet.. That is what I'm after. No bling.. just function. Porsche 924 have them, lotus, some farrari's.. gt40 even the old forb XA GT had them.. but I still have not found a good one! Anybody got one? Please PM me! Cheers. Aaron

I went for the 3040 for the reason that I am never happy with the horse power... The slightly larger turbo will give me a little bit of spare flow should that be the case again! and I'm sure it will be! It will take me awhile to do what I want to do, about a year I guess. But that is where I'm heading, I have bought my list of parts with a 420~460 rear hp figure in mind. the 3040 will be up to the tast without too much lag. I read on a Donaldson truck mufflers site yesterday about exhaust flow, I chrunched some numbers and damn near died! I am now upgrading the exhaust to a full 4inch. At the moment it is 4" off the turbo and the WG joins just before the cat. 3" cat back.. I've read alot of your posts 'Cubes' and it will be very interesting to compare the engines! Cheers.

Thats perrrrrrfect! That will pull like a freight train and be so easy to drive! I was looking to get it to build boost earlier and be very flexable. Its not too bad now, but the bigger cubes will be welcomed! add the effect of the cams, and other breathing stuff.. it will be quite a strong set up. My wife gives it a squirt now and then, so I can't make it toooo unfreindly. Besides which, it will be so much MORE fun at my skid pan days.. Useless, but fun! I hope to put it down the strip a few times after that. Thanks a heap for you input! Aaron

yea.. thats the go. I had a good look at the tomei cams. You just convinced me! I have the 0.86 turbine.. i will be fitting the greddy type plenum with the Q45 Throttle and AFM. My fuel system is almost finished, so then I'll start on a rebuild I guess! How much power did you make with that set up @21psi? Cheers

A real 900hp RB25.. hmm is that sort sort of world record? I haven't seen one like that in Australia before.. this machine is awesome! I'm curious: did you lie awake one night and think, damn those GTR boys and their huge power figures.. I'm gonna scare the pants off them by building a monster that will pull soooooo hard that the Earth changes its orbit? It just goes to show what you can do when you get serious about doing something. Good on you!

I've got a RB30 block sitting on the floor infront of my RB25. I'm wondering if I should put a set a cams in it before i do the conversion? Sure you can make good power with the stock items.. But, is it a better option to do the cams and make a fatter power curve, or spend the money somewhere else? I'm in 2 minds.. but leaning towards something like a pair of step2 HKS. They will be fitted with adj gears. which I hope to buy very soon. I want to make a strong power figure, but not so keen to have to pull 8000rpm to make it. Hence the conversion. I'm after about 420ish rear hp. got GT3040r. it should come on strong a bit earlier than the 35. Am I thinking right? cheers.

As for intake temps, I plugged into the intake manifold, and drove the car for 4 weeks. The average intake temp once operating temp was reached was 77deg. that was highway cruising only. then stop and hit the turbo timer for 5 min, the temp JUMPED 20+ degrees in under 30 seconds! That was a stock engine. Then (because I live in tropical queensland) i removed the throttle heater pipe. That dropped the average intake temp to 49 degrees while cruising. Different thermostats will give different results. Its because the factory uses engine heat to heat the intake manifold through the throttle body. Remember, that was inside the manifold! thats the actual temp of the air that the engine injests. Hitting boost to pass a car on the highway gave an average increase of only 4 degrees in the manifold. It stayed at that temp for about 30seconds after the bosst stopper. But I think that was because of the stock intercooler giving up the heat it just absorbed. Cheers Aaron

I've had the pod filter/ air box discussion before! Everybody talks about the surface area, BUT, have you thought of this.. The pod filter flows more because of its shape! the air box is a bad design, and having no air filter in the box seldom even comes close to the flow of a pod. Sure the underbonnet heat is a huge issue when considering the horsepower side of the equation, but just for flow, think more about shape! do you have a square exhaust pipe? No, it doesn't flow well! Cheers Aaron

Dodgy Things You Have Done To Your Cars
psi replied to rgr34's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I was out forrest hacking yonks ago and put a huge stake through the fuel tank! One of the chicks in the back seat was sharing her bubble gum with her freind.. so.. yoink. Jammed the gum into the hole.. fixed the datto up really nice! drove the car like that for another 12 months before the car died.. bubble gum still in the hole! Another scenic tour through the forestry (mate said it was a short cut) the ballast resistor case broke. The crappy tracks took its toll on it.. the resistor shortted out and the engine died! The same girl was in the front seat this time, chewing bubble gum.. yoink 'gummed' the resistor back together and drove the rest of the datto killing journey back her place.. To this day, I still drive my car with bubble gum in the glove box! -

So, TurboTim is in for this one! Ska and his Stagea is in for the July 28th! I'm so keen to hear the turbo's scream their magic tune as they boost their way round. It is going to be an awsome day!

I beleive that the skid day I'm running for SAU on Sat 19 May is now booked out! You could still try and get a spot, you may get lucky. Contact RevHead about that day. I still have some spots free for Friday 18 May though. Take a day off work and go skidding ALL day.. then have the rest of the weekend to do what you want! like some more mods to your car or fishing, or something.. Its worth thinking about.. lol At our skid days, you get 4 minutes on the skid pan in one solid go. Because there is very low car numbers, you will normally be back on the skid pan in 30minutes or so. That means you get to go skidding for 8 minutes in an hour.. give or take! You will be on the skid pan quite alot! cheers Aaron

Our skid day was held on the 10th March. However, I think you are thinking of the Cooloola Car Club's Motorkhana which was held around the 25th March. We don't run cylinder classes. If its motorkhanas you're interested in you will need to contact the Cooloola Car Club. We concentrate more on education and improving driving skills while having a lot of fun! We have dedicated technical sessions where you can learn or upgrade your skills. Its not boring or too difficult. We have received a lot of very positive feedback from people who say that our days are very different to what they've done previously and that its well worth getting involved in. Heaps of fun and really hones their skills. We are non-profit. If we do make a profit, we purchase props to aid in the running of future skid days. I hope that clears that up! Aaron

Zennon: I'm sure you are going to have heaps of fun when u come to my skid day.. I'm really looking forward to it! The Tech session will be different for the 2 days. You are more than welcome to attend both if u wish! I'll bet good money you would be all skidded out by the end! lol Josh. We call our selves SlideWize. We are not related to the sponsor of this site. It just so happens we share a name! We ran a day on the 10th March. Is that what you are talking about? We are running 3 more days this year not including the day that is booked for SAU. Any body with boost is more than welcome to come! Cheers. Aaron

Racsov500: I think you are talking about the cooloola car clubs Motorkhana. We don't do motorkhana's. We are not part of their club or their days. We do our own thing. There are a bunch of things that we do differently.. However, sliding around on a skid pan is fun no-matter who is running it! We only have 16 cars and we have a technical session where we learn stuff. We aim more at the education side of things and changing peoples bad driving habbits.. but we have lots of fun doin it! Nizchic: You are correct, There is no drifting permitted, that is set by roadcraft. We do power-slides and throttle steering and let people blow off some steam before we branch off and do our technical stuff. We ran 3 days last year, and one on the 10th March. We have 3 more days this year! If anbody is interested, I will be more than happy to answer any Q's. Cheers. Aaron

Like the title says! I know they are out of production.. But I need one ASAP! hand controller would be a bonus, but not essential. Second hand will be fine! Cheers.
