G,day old fella, Dont talk to me about bloody tailshafts atm. @#$$%$@##@$#$#$ Can you recall what hardy spicer charged you for that custom jobbie of yours.
-
X11ty billion. They totally suck.
-
You missed the best one mike. Ippy truck and bus is only 30seconds from qds and has a larger range of both.
-
Who.....Sydney Kid?? :laughing-smiley-014:
-
Reaches for beer nuts.
-
Maybe the new ecu is a cuppla hundred kg lighter than the factory jobbie.
-
Not as much as it will cost to buy this car.
-
Would you not think the hp gain is pretty much in line with what you would get from most vehicles if you upped the boost by 50%.?
-
Except the boost from what I can read. What is stock boost?
-
Call yahoo serious.

OK. so we'll tell them not to buy anything at all. "Coilovers" is a generic term for new shocks/springs, nothing more. Its only in your ocd engineering brain that it becomes a prob. Most of us are happy to use the term "coilover" to start the conversation and then go on to be more brand/type specific as the conversation unfolds. Get back to f**king bed.

I think most people have a handle on that Gary, its more a method of differentiating between A product purchased as a whole as opposed to one being sourced from several manufacturers to make the whole.

Correctly set up coilovers can be as good as any setup. There is way too much generalistaion here. We went from the stock suspension wheel tyre setup to pretty much the full monty in progressive steps, First up was tyres, obviously a set of semi;s is going to bite harder than the standard 225 shitters so thats a no brainer. Swaybars were next, They didnt inprove traction in a straight line but they sure helped cornering in both stability and power delivery. Thats where it went pear shaped, we fitted a set of jap coilovers and all the neccessary adjustable bits like castor camber rods front and rear, new bushes etc. and it was terrible. Just a kidney busting bone jarring ride to hell with the car side stepping every time you tried to power on through a corner. Lighter springs improved it slightly but still useless so a lighter set again and the handling and power down grip did improve a little but we couldnt get the car off the ground. It just sagged down and stayed there no matter what we did. In desperation we ordered the bilstein setup and fited them. VOILA! the car now sits at a very good ride height, It squats beautifully in both straight line and cornering when you power on. Body roll is contained by the swaybars. The next issue is the overall balance of the car. under hard cornering the rear squats and bits so damn hard it tries to lift the front off the deck and goes in to understeer. I am hoping that corner weighting and sway bar adjustment can take care of this to some degree. Power is in the 450/500 hp range so its not short of fat either. On the other side of the fence my bud has a set of coiulovers in the same car as mine (33gtst) and he has it handling nicely too. his car squats and bites well both straight and cornering. his ride is just a bit harsher/stiffer than mine. Good traction can be achieved with coilovers or quality shocks and springs. Its all about the setup and the settings.

The tyres you seek are mickey thompson et street radials. They are effectively a drag slick with a slightly stiffer sidewall. I drive to the track and back on mine but take them off again for general driving. With the sidewall softer than conventional high performance tyres the car rolls around a bit on them. Great for straight line work tho.

N1 Oil Pump Killed My Engine .....
FineLine replied to campbell's topic in General Automotive Discussion
LOL, Have another stogie Geoff. I was so undecided as to wether to spend the extra tin on a better pump but the more research i did made me do it and quite a few oil mods at the same time. I ended up using the Jun pump and collar and darn glad i did. -
WE have one here in the switch called ipswich truck and bus bud. they have a really good selection of hoses and clamps. bought a lot of my shit from them

If more people knew the grief involved before they started there would by way less modified cars out there. Its been almost 12 months of modifing the modifications, hacking, cutting changing, discarding, reaarranging components to get it all to work as a unit. I thought I did my homework but there are so many hidden perils just waiting to bite you on the arse. The next person that tries to sell me a part and insists it simply "bolts straight on" will have said part rammed up their coit. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BOLT ON MOD? Good luck with this build 2rismo and i hope your pain is way less than mine has been. There are quite a few up here keen to see your car run at jambo.

Vibration At Speed
FineLine replied to R32zilla's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Same here with a 33 gtst, Pulling it apart atm and i think the prob may be the centre bearing. Its pretty sloppy. -

Get a Hiclone, Good for 11ty hp and 100 k to the litre. Seriously the nitrous idea will work but is just as illegal as a turbo is for a p plater. When it comes to n/a the old saying about cubic inches is very relevant. Its easy to forget how little displacement a skyline engine carrys when you see some of the hp figures on the turbo'd engines but at the end of the day you are playing with 2.5 litres of naturally aspirated engine. It really isnt enough to make any worth while gains unless you mod the feck out of it and live with the aforementioned lousy down low running.

Can wind some more in if needed Adam but it just isnt neccessary bud. we still havnt really touched the tune as yet, just made it safe to make sure it was ok and it spat out the numbers we have been looking for all along. still got 1500/2000 rpm to throw at it yet plus a heap more timing and more fuel to come out and the water/meth setup to dial in. I was beginning to think i had built a lemon until now. At last theres light at the end of the tunnel.

Dont know where to start this post. We strapped my car on the dyno on friday in preperation for the track day today and thats when the bullshit started. Stainless highmount was warped and cracked again for the umpteenth time so game over. Not so Says mic. I will custom build one and have it fitted and tuned in time. so he did. Then the shithouse braided turbo oil lines shit themselves, No probs says mic. goes and has custom hardpiping made up to suit. Off we go again. blow off valve shits itself. No problems says mic, rebuilds it better than tyrbosmart intended. Away we go again. nice power, car idling and running beautifully, naking around 450 hp so we decide its time to dial in the water meth. WTF. lost the signal from the afm. several hours later and a long story short the w/meth signal was interfering with the afm and had done all along. several hours tuning down the farking drain. All this interspersed with the oiul filter blowing off on 3 different occasions and filling the bay and shop with hot oil. Enough I said. Get f***ed said Mick, Get the hell out of my shop. So I did. 3 a.m. I gets a phone call. Hey bud. shane, Lazy bastard and I worked all night and fitted a haltech and retuned. 500 hp spinning the shit out of the tyres and still water meth to go. scarey. BUT! She blew the farkin diff. OMG. So much respect to these guys for the unbelievable effort. SIGNATURE PERFORMANCE YOU FARKIN ROCK JINGA NINJA YOU ROCK LAZY BASTARD YOU ROCK I cant believe how fortunate we are to have men like Mick Oshea and Dan to give us such undodgy effort but today the sun shines firmly on Mick. You are a farkin champion mate along with your red headed sidekick. Hats off to the best effort I have ever seen.
