  1. Whats everyone doing today? I'm bored, and have a freshly cleaned 'line, so i want to do something skyline related or something! Anyone doing anything? I.e. anyone feel like going for a cruise etc?
  2. Hi All! Sort of carrying on from another thread, but its on a different tangent, so i didn't want to go mixing all the info up in the thread etc.... and yes, i have searched (Read the first 25 pages of this subforum, front to back) which is where i got most of the information that i will be talking about below from Recently i went to a suspension place for a wheel alignment, and they suggested that most of my bushes needed replacing, so i thought "if i'm going to do most of them, i may as well do the lot and do it properly" so i've been digging around trying to find bushes etc... Anyway, i went to another suspension place last night... this guy does mainly competition setups etc (Targa, motorkhanas, gymkhanas, stuff like that) and i had quite an extended chat with him. I told him what i was going to be using the car for (Track days, hillclimbs, motorkhanas, things like Dutton rally and Coastal Challenge etc, as well as it being a daily driven car) Now i explained to him that i'm on a very limited budget, and in no way did i think that with such a low budget that i would be competetive, just looking for something that is going to be a bit of fun to drive in these sorts of events. I ran the idea past him of a setup, that i had compiled together in my head from reading all the threads about setups etc previously, which was... *Replace all Suspension bushes with Urethane, with adjustable/eccentric bushes for the control arms, both front and rear, and also the castor rod bushes. *Bilstein Shocks *Whiteline Springs (350 - 400lb/in front, 200lb/in rear) *27mm Swaybar front *24mm Swaybar rear (Dont intend to be racing in the rain) Now, he said that that setup sounded good, however it probably wouldn't suit my requirements, as its more for an all-out, higher speed track only car, rather than something for lower speed stuff as well (i.e. tight corners at lower speeds, such as what you get in motorkhanas and on the road as well, for events like Duttons, CC) He wasn't sure about the whiteline springs, as he said they can come from several manufacturers (he is going to find out who for me) and therefore vary in build quality etc. He also isn't sure if they'd be suited to the Bilsteins (in rates). Suggested that i use Kings Springs, and he is going to be researching what rates are available in these etc. anyone had any experience (either positive or negative) with these? He also suggested that i use Koni shocks, again, good/bad? Said not to worry about the bushes, as he doesn't think that many of the ones that i was told are gone, are actually gone (he is going to check this out himself sometime next week) Also said to not do swaybars at this point in time... but to do everything else, and then see how it is... if its still not 100%, to look at using the swaybars to fine tune it. And finally, he said that i probably wouldn't get enough adjustablility with just eccentric/adjustable bushes, and suggested that i should go for adjustable top arms, front and rear, and also adjustable castor rods. I questioned him about this, as all the things i've read about them seem to point to them wearing quickly, being noisy (the harshness doesn't bother me too much). He said that the main reason that they wear quickly, is most of them don't have dust covers over the actual rod ends, and therefore get grit etc in the moving parts, which then grinds, hence causing all the wear. He said that if i get some with dust covers, that they should be fine, and not wear much at all.. The reasoning behind him wanting to use these, is because he doesn't think that i'll get enought adjustability with just offset/adjustable bushes. What are your thoughts on this issue?... I'd prefer to stick with the bushes, for 2 reasons: 1) so that the car stays 'legal' as there's been so many crackdowns on imports lately, and 2) i'm not wasting $$$ on some fang-dangled arms etc, when a simple bush will give me the amount of adjustability i need and do the same job. I think it must have slipped his mind that when i raise the car with the new springs/shocks (its too low at the moment... will get exact measurements this afternoon) that the camber angles will in fact decrease, hence not needing so much adjustment. So, in summary, his thoughts for a setup were: *Adjustable Castor Rods *Adjustable Front Upper Control Arms *Adjustable Rear Upper Control Arms *Kings Springs (He's researching the rates available, but he liked the 350 - 400lb/in fronts and 200 lb/in rear idea) *Koni Shocks Thoughts/Ideas? We've both agreed to take our time and do our research on this setup, as its going to be a month or 2 before i can afford to do all this, and neither of us want to go rushing in and then find out its not suited to the application etc. Many Thanks Jason
  3. thanks mate.. i gave him a call today and he seemed really helpful. He said he's happy to stay back one afternoon to have a chat to me, as i dont usually get out of work until 4:30 - 5:00... so i'll probably drop in and see him tomorrow afternoon... and its not too far from me either

    Help Me!!!

well, seems i'm no longer needed
  5. i had a talk to fulcrum, and they seemed more interested in just selling me the most expensive of everything they carry, rather than listen to what i had to say and sit down and talk to me about what suited my application the best etc. I asked them about whiteline products, and was told that they 'don't deal with them.. they occasionally deal with the sway bars, but thats it', and then tried to sell me all their own 'super-pro' bushes and other fulcrum products... i called whiteline to find out where i could buy their products, and was told to speak to fulcrum, because they are the distributors.. i said that i'd spoken to fulcrum and they didn't deal with whiteline, which they found rather interesting as their rep was at fulcrum at that point in time. so i'm looking for somewhere that will actually listen to what i have to say and work out what would suit me the best, rather than just "you need this, this, this and this, and the best (most expensive) of everything... now bend over while we ream you with $100/hour labour and hugely inflated parts prices etc...
  6. Sort of on the subject... i'm looking at entering my car into some events such as dutton rally, motorkhanas, hillclimbs etc next year... was wondering who around brisbane is good to speak to about setups etc? Jason
  7. mate, i've got the crosspipe, no BOV tho... is this of any help to you?
  8. ok, i gave whiteline a call today, and they said that the only bushes that they sell, are listed in their online catalogue (i.e. the ones that Sydneykid listed above), and any other bushes that are required, they use the super-pro bushes that i was quoted on originally. Now, they also said that the shop who did the quote is supposed to be one of the distributors for whiteline products, yet when i asked them about whiteline, they said they don't really deal with them, just the odd swaybar etc and then went on to try and sell me more of their stuff.... whiteline was rather interested by this fact when i mentioned it to them on the phone today, so i don't know what the go is there? The rack is leaking (though not as bad as they made it out to be... it is slightly damp around one of the boots) so it does need replacing sometime, and i was going to do the bushes at some stage anyway, but i want to do it once, and properly the first time, hence wanting to know a bit more information so i can make a more informed decision come time to buy. Thanks for all your help so far people
  9. Ah, thanks for clearing that up Sydneykid... i mean, i scoured whitelines online catalogue, and the bushes that you listed are the only ones i could find... i didn't realise they had other ones that weren't listed Thanks, i'll give them a call, along with Noltec. The place that quoted me these prices is the one that said they refused to deal with/use/install Noltec or Nolathane as it was crap and doesn't last blah blah blah... i found it a bit sus at the time, hence asking if there's any reason for it. Sounds like they just don't like competition ::headspin:
  10. Thanks for that guys... as for doing it myself, i know some of the things i could do easily enough, but others i might leave to the pros to do, as i don't have the time/tools to do them really (i really only get sundays off, and am in a townhouse complex, so no driveway/garage space to do it) Thanks for that info sydneykid, i found it about an hour before your post and was getting prices etc as i hit refresh on this thread Some of those items are looking as a better alternative to the super-pro ones, however, they don't have all the bushes unfortunately... are there any other suppliers out there that do these? (Been told to steer clear of Nolathane and Noltec for some reason... any idea why this would be?) Thanks for the help so far! Muchly appreciated Jason
  11. Hi All Have a bit of a question... i went in to get a wheel alignment today at a reputable and highly recommended shop here in Brisbane, and before they did the wheel alignment, they gave the car a free suspension inspection etc... Now, they've came back to me with a quote for nearly $2000 in parts needed! Below is a copy of the quote that they gave me, what are your thoughts on the prices etc? (Note: The bushes that have been quoted are 'Super Pro' urethane bushings, which apparently have a stiffness rating of 80/90 compared to standard rubber which is apparently 30/40) Bit of background information: I'm looking at possibly doing some road-rally type events next year (Dutton Rally, Coastal Challenge, etc) and am going to be performing a brake upgrade, and want to do something with the suspension (Stiffen up the chassis further, and new spring/shock combo or coilovers, stuff like that) (I am open to suggestions, but bear in mind that i'm not made of money, so i can't afford a 1 million dollar unobtanium rollcage etc...) Anyway, i was wondering if its beneficial to switch ALL of the bushes on the underside to polyurethane, to help with reduced movement etc, or are there some bushes that make no difference as to whether they are standard rubber or urethane? Does anyone know any companies that make Bushing kits for R32 GTS-t's? Front: Front Lower Control Arm Bushes x 1 Kit - $171.03 Strut Bar Bushes x 1 Kit - $83.25 Steering Rack Mount Bush Kit x 1 Kit - $43.54 Reconditioned Power Steering Rack x 1 Ea - $514.55 B/S Genuine Tie Rod Ends x 2 Ea - $305.14 Labour x 3.5 Ea - $346.50 Front Wheel Alignment x 1 Ea - $49.50 Power Steering Fluid x 2 Ea - $22.00 Wheel Balance x 4 Ea - $30.80 Rear: Rear Lower Control Arm Bushes x 1 Kit - $103.64 Labour x 2 Ea - $198.00 Rear Wheel Alignment x 1 Ea - $49.50 Consumables x 1 Ea - $5.50 Total - $1922.95 Now before i agree to the above, i want to research my options a bit, as to if there is a product more suited to what i'm intending to use the car for, for possibly only a little bit more or something? there's no point in buying something that is only going to be replaced down the track a little with something better!
  12. I'm booked into Fulcrum tomorrow, for a 4 wheel alignment and balance... as i'm not happy with the job that Bob Jane did about 1000km ago... i'll let you know how it goes... (Caution, they're rather expensive... got quoted $120 for just the above)
