  1. Don't be off put by one workshop that doesn't believe in bang for buck performance. Tomei 2.8ltr stroker kit. Stage 1 (441kw) 600ps ~6.5k by the time its landed + maching etc. Rb30 block - $100-$300 + spool forged rods and forged cp pistons ~1.9k + machining. Bang for buck the RB30 is the winner. ------- Spoolup, What are these 4340 Rb30 stroker cranks? Are they suitable for the rb25/26 blocks or an actual rb30 stroker crank to 3.2ltr or something?
  2. My reply was for SirRacer but yeah.. Its in his sig. From memory around 19-20psi or something. Not all that much boost but I believe he is running some reasonable cams.
  3. haha.. Oosh. What sort of bike? I'll find out, would be interesting to see.
  4. I probably wouldn't bother with the 1.06 on the RB30. Sky30's pulled only 'just' under 400rwkw out of his GT35r .82 on his RB26/30. Step up the turbo size.. Unsure as I've never really looked in to it but possibly a GT40/42 or T04z? sort of thing if you want more?
  5. Use a 280xz or R30 skyline resistor pack. $5 from the local U-Stealit parts.
  6. One thing to be aware of is the GT3076 (56t 6blade 3037) such as Lithiums I haven't seen available with a .7 a/r. The old 7blade GT3076r yes. How many compressor wheel blades does it have?
  7. The one thing you have to becareful with down Hindley especially is if the car is fairly loud Police walking will ask you to pull to the side. I've had this happen a good 9-10years ago in my VS 5ltr and have since had a few mates also be pinged in the same way.
  8. Hey Adrian, The std vct system works directly off RPM and nothing else. It essentially turns on increasing overlap at 1100-1300rpm and then back off at 4700rpm ish reducing overlap to aid top end with that restrictive turbo std scroll. I do get where your coming from; having an airflow based vct controller could work but it would require a lot of fiddling. It could result in a of buggering around for what could result in a tune thats never quite right due to the essentially rpm variable vct controller. A lot of coulds in there lol. Without some loss there's would be no gain. With regards to RPM controllers; I don't feel the Jaycar kit is suitable primarily due to its cost and need for modification when you can buy a controller thats designed for the purpose for $50 or so. But yeah.. RPM variable vct controller; interesting concept. Would be interesting if there would be any real gains. How does Ford's inline 6 infinite variable cam controller work? RPM based and or inj. duty/airflow based? I guess thats one for google of which I currently don't have enough time for.
  9. Life's a bitch. Minority spoil it for the majority. So if you see some dick flying around through traffic in their skyline be sure to grab the number plate and report them.
  10. Gutting the cat is silly as it leaves a large void where the gases expand then squeeze back down which introduces turbulence as a result back pressure. All though still better than having a restrictive ceramic cat in place its not as good as a straight pipe. If your going to do it do it properly and weld a pipe through the guts of the cat. BUT.. Metalcat FTW
  11. Compression doesn't show the condition of your oil rings or valve stem seals. If new plugs clears it up for a little look hard at the ecu. Failing that the mechanicals.
  12. Ahh so you don't have a plenum. I skim read. Its difficult to find a decent 26head for a 'reasonable' price. Stick with the R34 head, nothing wrong with it. It runs solid followers which is a big bonus. But yeah depends if you can source a decent 26head without being too out of pocket. There will be no problems. Its an easy conversion in the RWD. Technically you shouldn't be charged a great deal more compared if you were going to swap another rb25 bottom end under it. The only real mods off the top of my head for yourself will be the powersteer bracket, dump pipe, drill/tap of the upper tensioner, run the VCT oil supply, block off the block to head vct oil supply, run a front oil drain. So not a great deal.
  13. Lifter tick when the oil was warm and poor oil pressure no bottom end knocks or noises. The lifters were silent when cold. Mine is fairly decent on cold start up, I only get an occasional tick. I can't remember the last time it ticked but I haven't been driving the car during the week for a while. The RB20 was the same. Occasional tick.
  14. Tune or stuffed motor.
  15. You've got the plenum and all the bits so it will simply bolt together with a few small mods to powersteer brackets, dump pipe etc. As for what to expect.. 'possibly' earlier spool and more power everywhere. You've got some one else doing the job so expect to be broke by the end of it.
  16. Do new plugs cause the miss to temporarily disappear? Hows your fuel economy? Obtaining at least 400km's a tank driving it in non-peak hour traffic?
  17. I run the non-vct RB25 head. I blocked off the rear restrictor as the Rb26's are and run a 1.5mm restrictor up font. Works fine no ticks, pops etc. Went from shit loads of oil everywhere over 5500rpm+ to a bone dry catch can. Still plenty of oil floating around in the cam covers. Prior on idle oil was puddled up to the base of the cam so you couldn't see the lifter. Now u can. As a few have experienced; if you experience hydraulic lifter tick once the motor is warm its a tell tale sign the motors on its last legs. Recently happened to a mate of mine running an rb30det.
  18. Honestly I wouldn't bother. Emissions and engineering are simply too expensive here in SA to make it worth while. The SR20 is a great motor in a light weight shell; the heavier Skylines need displacement. Even with 270rwkw the SR20 in the 1400+kg R34 won't exactly be a tough streeter until mid to end of third gear, so in short useless. Buy something that will be easier to sell in the future. An R34 with the SR20 fart.. :S
  19. Internodes Premium Usenet service is back online.
  20. SLY-dn, Drop me a pm; we really need a minimum of 10 paid members by late Dec/first week of Jan absolute latest. Slightly bad timing over xmas and all but it is only $30 and we have known about it for a while now. darkhorse, We will be accepting signups on the day. Pm replied.
  21. Bah 2years is nothing. A mate back when I was 19 hooked up with a mates girlfriends mum that was 38yrs old I bumped in to him only a year or so ago and he was with the same bird; BUT with a couple of extra kids lmfao. She's now very gray and ~48!!!! So whats that.. almost double his his age.
  22. Mine is: FCC3 020-21711 Strange.. Shaun has the datalogit that supports both the old and the new Powerfc's. Maybe quiz why he can't use the datalogit? Unless his laptop has recently decided to no longer play ball.
  23. The R32's use a typical airbox setup. The r33's are upside down which makes it difficult to get a decent cai in to them. Regardless, the cooler the air the cooler it is going to come out the other end. The reason the air heats is due to compression + lack of compressor efficiency; the higher the efficiency (look at a few compressor maps and the efficiency islands) the less heat that is introduced in to the air = increased density/oxygen = bigger bang.
  24. Hey buddy, I'm fairly strapped for time coming up to xmas but have no issues dropping the h/c off to Shaun. If its any consolation my h/c is only months old. Shaun does have a datalogit so either way it will be tuned.
  25. I think the trick with the stock airbox (gtr included) with any sort of reasonable power is to push a cai in to them. The std snorkel is very restrictive.
