  1. no... when its cold, the motor is tight.. all the oil is in the sump, and theres no heat to help with combustion or atomization of the fuel.. so the battery has to work that little bit harder to get it going.. it could be one of a few things already stated.. like a leaking or dodgy injector.. low compression.. afm.. fuel pressure?? there is no real way to test the afm.. the best test is just to replace it with a brand new item.. it can cause so many different problems each with its own set of faults.. its a good place to start and even if it doesnt fix the problem.. you can cross it off the list of future problems.. i dont know of many people doing the afm earthwire trick on skylines... i know you can do it on sr20's, but they have a different afm all together.. have you done wired in the fuel pump to run on full battery voltage?? theres a thread on it in here, just search for it. my rb20 did the same thing sometimes, i cleaned everything as you have done, and got a new afm, which fixed alot of issues, but not the the idle after start up.. it was ok with me as i always let the car idle for a lil bit before driving anywhere anyway. if everything else is working and performing ok.. maybe its a wise idea to leave this one alone and deal with the idle.. if it only does it fo a bit after 1st startup, then thats not so bad.. as opposed to constantly chasing it to find you may need new piston rings.
  2. jack the front wheels off the ground... with a long bar... like a shovel handle, or jack handle.. put it under the wheel and lever the wheel up as it would if the suspension was moving.. if the ball joint is flogged out, there will be some movement when you lift the wheel up, before it starts to move the suspension.
  3. are you doing anything with the rear guards? that might look a little wack with the front wider than the rear.
  4. the 20mm's look good to me... still stock, but a lil tougher.. you wouldnt get away with those tyres if you went 25mm's, it would look like a 4wd.
  5. been there, done that... what a friggin pain in the arse.. for a tiny little hose. you should do them all or they will each pop one by one, especially coming into summer.
  6. heres a quick pic of where mine is at present.. will post up a build thread when a bit more gets under way.. cheerio Lint
  7. not everyone needs to track their track car... theres alot in the novelty and fun of owning such a pure bred machine, its like being a kid again.. i dont have experience with track porsches... or even track cars... but ive had a few "race use only" motocross bikes... and even though i dont race, and i very rarely rode them as is... i loved having them just for the nature of them being created.. their purpose in life is none other than to go as fast as possible.. riding them through the bush or a mates property was pretty pointless, keep stalling, no engine braking, too light and too fast/aggressive.. but give me a few jumps and/or an open bit of ground to open it up and holy hell... it all just made it worth it. im currently in the process of rebuilding my r32 and im getting so much enjoyment out of building it and making my shopping list that im happy just to have it sit in my garage and maybe come out once or twice a year.. i just love it that much and i dont need to thrash it to get the enjoyment out of it.. even though it will be completly stripped out, undriveable, unbearable, and completly useless for anything other than thrashing.. its the novelty of having such a beast at my disposal and that it has no other purpose than ringing the neck out of it.. and i can do so at any time i see fit. thats what gets me through those hard days at work. when it comes to happiness vs cost... happiness wins no matter what the cost. just people with bigger budgets have more expensive toys... but just because their toy costs 10x more than yours.. doesnt necessarily mean they are 10x happier than you..
  8. yeh sorry... more neg on the left.... hmmm... is it possible that the car is on the cock?? not quite level?? maybe a bush is flogged out etc?? id be looking at simple things before you go yanking ur panels
  9. common prob on skylines is that the left rear wheel has more camber than the right.... could this be your issue?? i dont know why... just is.
  10. damn evocoop... that doesnt look like much fun at all.. the crash part that is.. bet the tree wasnt expecting that to happen! is there much damage to the car??
  11. my rex wasnt a daily.. i rarely drove it when it was raining heavily. and i dont live in a flood area or an over populated built up town/suburb with poor drainage.. my house is on top of a hill... so no... flooded roads werent a problem for me personally.
  12. bakes was telling me about a guy at his work that has extracted a fair bit of power out of his xr6 turbo with just mild bolt ons and tuning... he hates it and wants a gtr... he cant get traction for shit and the rest of the car is rubbish!
  13. i took me up until about 4.13 to realise that you werent changing gears. haha. great driving!
  14. i was just discussing this with a guy at work.. and we came up with the obvious question of what do you do if you can actually afford to buy and maintain both?? like the old lexus saying... "if you can afford to buy a lexus... you dont buy a lexus."
  15. i had the filter that low on my bugeye wrx.. it sat behind the fog light hole... but i just made up an aluminium box to surround it except for the opening at the front.. it worked pretty good and pretty hidden away. i just made up a second box where the pod would normally sit and that housed the boost control solenoid and the hks bov on the cooler pipe. if you can find an importer or wrecker that does blueshlips... like the one at tamworth... import engines 4 u... they are pretty leanient as they know imports... rta cracks down on them pretty hard though as they know importers.
  16. yes it is.. its got to do with the exposed airfilter sucking in more air than the car was designed to.. changing the emissions.. nothing about where or how its mounted. like i said.. they are trying to make it hard for you.. wait till you have a highly modded turbo skyline, try getting it passed a blueslip when full inspection is ticked.. unless you know someone who knows someone.. its a major hassle and one that made me sell my car when it was done. how does your handbrake not stay up?? how do you use your handbrake?? and 105 db seems pretty loud man... my atmo r31 was 110db and it was unbearable... my r33 gtst was 95db on the dot and it was just perfect.. at 105db youd be rattling peoples foundations as you drive past.. dont believe me?? there is a mongrel vn commodore that drives past my house everyday.. it makes the most horrible noise and shakes the entire house..
  17. aluminium acid brah. and wear gloves.
  18. good choice mate... if i was in your position id go for the gt2 aswell.. the new gtr just doesnt float my boat.
  19. well done dunc... any in car video recordings?
  20. that just caused me to release an uncontrollable squirt of uncontainable giggle in a dead quiet office.
  21. there are heaps and heaps of threads on this dude.. no it wont screw anything up.. maybe your paint on the lip but thats it.. rolling and flaring are 2 different things. and both are only done to the outer skin... not the inner guard if thats what your referring to.
  22. 1. buy some alu-brite or aluminium acid.. 2. hose wheels 3. spray it on with a squirty bottle 4. give it a bit of a scrub with a softish brush 5. hose off 6. pick your jaw up off the ground in amazement ive done this on naked rims and painted rims, ive done it to some 20 year old volks that had never been cleaned, and they looked like new... and aslong as you get full coverage and dont let it dry (keep the wheel wet at all times) its safe as witches hats.. washing up gloves are recomended.. sunnys or glasses wouldnt go astray.. and try not to breathe it in too much. cheers Linton
  23. hahahahaha its been ages since ive heard/read someone being called a poofter... thats gold!!
  24. some could say the same about the RB30 though.
