Moral Dillemma Regarding My Gtr
NZM.031 replied to spec-V's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
power isnt everything bakes r34 is (to me) perfect across all aspects... its got 400hp at the wheels... but bakes has never been further than 62% throttle... hes never needed to.. it has the driveabilty of a street car, comfortable ride, a/c, low nvh levels.. immaculate inside and out, but power to boot, it puts a massive smile on your face and plants you back in the seat. its just got bigger turbos and what not, engine hasnt been opened however, its a safe tune without stressing the engine. he drives it every single day and loves it. youve had your car for a while by the sound of it... and youve got a connection with it... you know its history, you know whats in it and where its been... that counts for something. buying someone elses built up gtr just wont be the same.. it wont have the refinement yours does... you wont know whats in it, whats been done to it, how and where its been driven... say you buy a stroked 600hp r32 gtr... it comes over here and its clapped out.. and the engine lets go... years of thrashing.. what do you do?? happened to a friend of mine, he had a 180sx from stock... over 3-4 years he added bit by bit and ended up having a really nice 180, had 240kw at the rears, he had a hand in all the work done.. and he still had more to do, we had hardly touched the suspension... but he sold it for less than it was worth, bought a phat FC rx7 straight off the boat.. full drift spec, bolt in cage, brides, bolt on guards, etc.. it was fast... but rough, noisy and thirsty, and didnt have any personality like his 180.. then it blew the engine, as rotors tend to do.. it was his daily driver, so now he was in a bit of a jam.. he got the engine stripped down, and it turned out it some pretty hardcore bits in it... which most were now toast and it was going to cost him a fair bit to rebuild it back to the spec that it was.. he couldnt afford it as he just extended his loan to get the car... so his only option was to drop in a stock 13b... completly changed the car and he hated it.. ended up selling it for much less than he paid, driving a shitty cressida around until he paid enough off his loan to go again, now hes got a big yellow soarer.. moral to the story, had he kept plodding along with his 180... it would an animal by now. your r33 has got much more potential left in it without changing the character of the car.. and if you keep doing it bit by bit.. then look back over the years youve owned the car... youve seen its journey from stock to rocket.. youve single handedly watched it grow... built it to your specs. if you buy someone elses... what happens when you get to your current stage... you're a bit over having 600hp as you cant really use it anywhere except the drag strip.. what little things can you do to it?? its got everything... you cant just add this here, or adjust that there.. if you cant drive it or work on it then whats the point of having it?? dont do it i say! cheers Linton -
actually... alot of lotus europa guys are using the mazda sp 2.3L engines, with individual throttle bodies and motec.. they scream.. look at the driveshaft angles... looks like a mini skyline setup at the back.. .one could learn alot about setting up suspension angles from that.

Having Trouble Installing Drift Button
NZM.031 replied to geraus's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
i think... from memory.. it slides off... you may need to give it a little tappy.. after i did mine it kept sliding forwards every now and then so i think thats it. you may have to get a screwdriver and pop out the chrome ring around the original button, it should slide off after that. you cant actually remove the spring i dont think... so you have to get in there with needle nose pliers and just yank on the spring till it breaks... than tap the button on the end of the original button and happy days. -
is it really so hard to use proper grammer?? how much time did your txt speak save you exactly?? are you in that much of a rush that you cant type properly or can you just not type properly at all?? the "guy" driving it was actually really nice.. didnt catch his name though.

ahmen to that mate... i worked with a mature age apprentice, he was 32.. and first year.. he was an EX head chef of some establishment in queensland... he loves being a mechanic.. straight work hours, straight forward work and no nitty little customer complaints.. i think if you are passionate about something, do it after hours.. you'll end up hating it otherwise.

"MR RACKS.... THATS THEIR NAME.... THAT NAME AGAIN IS MR RACKS" is there a mrs racks?? hehe

i smacked a gutter a few months ago with some 20 yr old 3pc Panasports.. they have forged centres but i think the outer rims are cast... both LH rims were damaged.. but reusable if i was to replace the outer rim... i dont know how hard i hit, but it was enough to snap the castor rod, snap the cast steering knuckle, mangle the top and bottom control arms, mangle the end of the cross member, and mangle underneath the wheel well.. the wheels had a hard life before me and needed the rim pieces replaced anyway with lots of crack repairs.. but they were still going strong.

hey all.... second year in a row my car has been out of operation for the putty cruise.... maybe next year great day.. lots of fun.. great to hear the 3 gens of RB's in full song... funny how they all sound soo different.. great to see that everyone can have fun and drive with spirit but not have to do anything stupid or ridiculous.. thats the way it should be. btw... who was the poor sap with the really low white r32 gtr that wet itself at the singleton end?? hope everythings ok with it.. i forgot to charge my camera up so no shots from me unfortunately.. cheers Linton

white... no wait... no go black... ummm.... or white... nah go white, white is awesome... but not as awesome as black... so go black... go on, you know you want to... come over to the dark side.. but white does look good, and clean.. so maybe you should go white... but you know black is better, so go black... just think.. what would james bond drive?? yeh... you know it... black FTW..

has this thing got new wheels yet??
-
if youve got colouful stuff behind black wheels and big f$%k off rotors... they dont really get lost. i think that high gloss black can get lost due to the reflections... too much going on, too much shine, cant really see the shape of the wheel or where the wheels end and the wheel well starts. TIME ATTACK TE37'S FTW!!!!

that means that with 400hp, armco comes at you real fast.. and the poor old brembo pads literally fell apart upon removal... boiled carrots would have more stopping power than the old pads did. -

if they arrive in time.. friggin slow boats. fear not kids... this thing now pulls up as hard as it goes (and it goes farkin hard).. so if your in front of it on the putty cruise you can relax. -
who advertises a body kit on a black car on a dull day... seriously.

from my own experience my friend.. do your time at your current dealership, then decide when your papers are signed and your apprenticeship completed.. if you want to move to another dealership, do it as a full qualified mechanic.. if you go somewhere else as an apprentice, you will always be the apprentice.. even if youve been there for 10 years, so will other guys, they will move up the rung before you.. you will be 40 before they move on and you move up... they generally send the gun mechanics away for training courses as they want them to be master technicians. service work day in day out is boring... but its easy, its stress free, and it pays the bills.. do you want to be constantly thinking about diagnosing a technical problem even when your at home or do you want to go to work, do what you do, go home again?? i honestly will never go back on the tools... i love cars, i enjoy working on them, but i will not go back to being a mechanic unless i absolutely have to.. its a horrible job, always in the firing line, shit pay, mostly shit conditons, never get any respect, yet you are the ones holding the dealership afloat.. the world will always need mechanics.. if car sales drop, they will still need mechanics.. if people cant afford to get a service, then they will be back sooner or later for an engine or something.. parts and service will always be around.. 10 years is a long way to look into the future... you should be living day by day, in 10 years... who knows WHERE you'll be.. i certainly did not think id be where i am when i started my apprenticeship.. i had planned to stay at the original place i started at, pay off my subaru liberty and live at home till i was 25... well, my 25th birthday has come and gone.. ive had 16 cars since i started, ive lived out of home for nearly 4 years, rented, now bought a house, moved towns, changed dealerships, changed jobs, changed roles, been overseas, had 2 months off to just relax and enjoy the summer.. live for the now, dont plan for the future.. everything happens for a reason, just enjoy life and everything will fall into place.. you're to young to be worried about 10yrs time... dont waste your life away thinking about tomorrow when you should be enjoying today.... tomorrow may never come.
