idiots like this give mechanics a bad name.. its a terrible act... but one that is replayed over and over again.. driving the good mechanics broke because everyone learns how to do their own work after a dodgy incident like this.
-
im with roy... you guys need to rip out the 4wd and start being awesome!! haha. nah seriously, you guyz... yous are my heroes. when my gtst grows up... it wants to be the hi octane r34. well done!
-
looks cranky my friend.. very very nice! that side on shot looks like a jet!
-
is it just me... or does anybody else picture Roy as beavis?? it makes his posts all the more entertaining.
-
heres an idea that the old boy just come up with... get the 25mm's if its too much... get them machined down 5mm.
-
ive seen a guy make up a box out of firm thin cardboard... paint it black... and get away with it for a blue slip inspection. theres a quick fix for you. follow the wires from the tacho... chances are they arent even connected, someone probs just fitted it for "street rep".. hence it not working.. otherwise, its ok to cut them as they will only be spliced into the original tacho wires.. and if it works, then it will keep working. just make sure you tape off the cut ends so they arent exposed. cops are trying to spruke you.. p plater, skyline, they want to give yo a bad taste before you get a turbo'd skyline.. they want to make hassles now so you wont want the hassles later and buy a corolla instead.. thats their idea... get em while they are young. if you want to know what IS and what IS NOT illegal... ring an engineer and ask a few questions.. dont rely on forums as there is alot of misleading info around here.

need more bonnet lift beeratch.. i had mine lifted 25mm. cant say i noticed any great difference... but after pulling the motor and seeing all the shit and corruption in the cooling system... i think i know why. made a great demister on cold mornings though. wheels look tough on the mrs' car.

p.s. you can have a pod filter if you must... but the pod must be FULLY enclosed not just a heat shield, this is to keep the cops happy only.. engineer still probs wont sign off on it.
-
engineer will not sign off on pod filters... they are an emissions thing.. nor will they sign off atmospheric blow off valves.. chances are, if you rang an engineer, they will tell you to put the airbox back on or make one up and dont waste their time. police will still defect your car if they want to... on the premise that you may have changed it since the engineer signed off on it.. yes it says you have a modified intercooler... but we deem that unsafe and dont think an engineer would sign off on it, heres a defect, now you have to go see your engineer friend again. getting your "friendly mechanic" to make up a cert for you wont work... cops know who the engineers are.. and they know the dodgy ones.. a mechanic is not an engineer.. an engineer knows all the adr's and what has to comply and how.. they go to uni, not tafe, and most of them take their job seriously.. they wont put their names to anything unsafe or flat out illegal. some blue slip places are great... they will hardly look at the car... some see defect and dont want anything to do with you unless you have an engineers certificate. if they are the only mods, then borrow an airbox off someone, and get the exhaust checked for decibel limit (under 90db) and height (must be 100mm off the ground at its lowest point) the exhaust isnt a drama unless its too loud or too low, as it doesnt change the emissions (providing it has a cat in place) it just expels them... its the air filter and tune that determines emissions.. which is why pod filters get defected. also... why do you have a tacho on your a-pillar?? what is it there for and yes it is illegal.. for reasons that a)you have one in the instrument cluster, and b) it is not sunken in to the dash or out of the collision course if you have an impact.. you'll notice that all instrument clusters are nicely rounded and usually softish... so if you have a crash, your hands wont get cut off or have loose things flying around the cabin if your windscreen smashes and your a-pillar bends. if your only performance mods are a pod an exhaust... i hardly think you need an extra tacho.. and the cops probably pulled you over purely on the tacho placement... putting you in the stereotype that goes with having extra gauges that arent necessary.. or having a full house engine that does require extra gauges. defects and skylines go hand in hand... either deal with it, or dont own a modified car.. there are lots of threads on here about this so hit the search button. cheers Linton

how many kms roughly... how many oil leaks?? and how much sludge?? assuming its a 3k or 4k... they will run on anything. a mate of mine got one of these and we cleaned it all up... did the points, plugs, carby kit, tuned it, got it running sweet as.. then we changed the oil... went from good compression to no compression.. ran like shit, blew smoke, etc. what happened when we flushed it is we flushed the build up that was sealing the pistons and put in a thin (read: not grease) oil and it just wrecked it. id suggest if its an old motor thats been around the block a few times, just run something like castrol gtx or gtx2.. reasonably thick. dont worry about anything for modern engines.. and dont worry about ones for high km engines.. as they are generally aimed at newerish cars that have done a few kms, like taxis etc. cheers Linton

id say 25mm spacers and put 215s on instead of 225s FTW! but thats me... to keep it original looking go the 20mm.. give it a bit more fatness.

Casey Stoners Non Start But Tab Won't Refund?
NZM.031 replied to Shmee33's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
house always wins.. -
do it yourself doof.. there is nothing there that is even remotely challenging.. its all unbolt and bolt up.. i dont know why you'd even consider taking that to a workshop. you'll need a 30mm spanner for the hicas bar.. not a socket. and with all the threads on here im sure there is no problem that hasnt been covered before. you'll be right... hook in!

Lightened Flywheel Or Not?
NZM.031 replied to WrenchesInTheGears's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
i was told by a gtr guru that the best flywheel is the factory one vs a/m lightened one. get the stock one balanced and lightened (i think it drops from 12kg to 8 or 9kg) as it has a better surface and provides better grip and handles more heat than a lightened billet one. a lighter flywheel will make the car rev quicker.. which is a good thing on the rb20... but it will affect idle a little bit... not much though.. and it will affect the cars engine braking ability and low down driveabilty as in under 2000rpm. if youve ridden a motocross bike and a big trail bike.. you'll see the difference. motocross bikes have little to no flywheels. trail bike is happy to lumber along at low revs, and can almost come to a stop before stalling.. motocross bike will stall at the drop of a hat if you arent on the gas, but will rev like mad. -
what is it that you are risking by using it?? it looks very nice to me.. with that said though... Mine's R34 runs standard plenum.. nuff said.

i was flicking through the Zoom issue last night to see if it has a wet or dry sump... and ive completly forgotten what it said. haha. i will double check again tonight... i know it had an oil tank behind the headlight which was pretty large, also had some funky stuff going on with the breather pipes etc... so i dont know if it was a funky wet set up with an extra oil tank or dry.

AE92 SX FTW!!! 4age screamer... lots of fun for a daily... love to be thrashed. or early 90's civic... the things never die.. i bought one for $300... had a little bit of rust.. its been going strong for almost 2 years since i bought it... ive washed it once for rego and topped up the oil and washer bottle... thats it! it goes good, comfy, quiet, has air con, quite roomy. brilliant little machine!

Help Something Not Right With My R32 Gtr
NZM.031 replied to 2-3's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
afm's FTW. i had a similar problem.. everytime id go to overtake... it would die on me, not stall, just not make any power.. replaced the afm with a brand new z32 one and away she went... no dramas ever again. -
i like the way you think.

stop wasting their time... while they are talking to you about your silly "harassment" events... they could be out defecting peoples cars for the good of society, getting hoons off the street is more important than protecting someones family. im a huge dog person... i dont like kids... my dogs are my kids... id do anything for them and if anything ever happened to one of them id completly lose it. what mowing company is it?? and how did he come across when you first met him?? do you know where HE lives?? its really sad that the police wont do anything... until you flog him with a baseball bat, then they'll come for you.. maybe its time to call up a few mates and keep watch for a few days.. maybe if you catch him in the act.. then cable tie his wrists and his pants tight around his ankles and waist, then let a rat or 2 loose in his pants... then call the police. i feel for you mate.. i hope he gets bored and leaves you alone soon.. otherwise, he needs his legs broken.. knees dont heal real well.. and people are pretty f#$ked without knees.

Moral Dillemma Regarding My Gtr
NZM.031 replied to spec-V's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
i had a 300rwkw VY SS ute and a near 300rwkw r33 aswell.. and ive had a steer of bakes' R34... i can tell you they are worlds apart in their power delivery and sheer fun factor.. with the GTR coming out on top.. my 150awkw wrx was much much more fun than the ute that had twice its power. i could use every single kilowatt in it and it was barely stressed.. the ute got real scary real quick, and it was not the complete package that a GTR is... -
clean chibs.... very very clean..
