  1. well my opinion is that it depends on the car, and as with all things its all about proportion. gtst's look better without the wing, as they dont have the width to back it up... they arent wide, so they can be made to look low and sleek.. gtrs look good with their respective wings as thats what makes them them.. so to speak.. evo's and wrx's look good with their own wings as thats what makes them them. i dont mind GT wings if the car they are on has a proper skirt kit and the bottom is wider, or as wide, as the wing. in other words.. a big wide gt wing on a standard r32 rear end looks wack... but if the r32 has rear pods and a rear diffuser it makes it look in proportion and tough as. cheers Linton
  2. thanks hostile i found these just on speed hunters.. almost fonz.
  3. www.streetfighters.com.au dont make the same mistake i did.... get your p's asap!!! i let my L's lapse out... stupidest thing i ever did... actually not getting my licence 10 years ago when i was 16 was the dumbest thing i ever did.
  4. im not against fwd... i just prefer a chuckable rear driver... better weight balance, bit more fun.. more engine bay room. no thanks.. s14 too expensive... ls1 too garbage. ive thought about that... they are still pretty expensive though.. find me one for 4k though, and its a different story, would have to be 2 door though..
  5. Hey fellas.. has anyone got in any pics of some original or nostalgic japanese workshops... the kind that a hakosuka would look right at home in, that havent been changed since the day they were built back in the 50's, the kind that you walk into and think, "you're kidding me" but after spedning 5 min there you realise it has an old world feel that these new, shmick workshops just dont have... with their painted floors and immaculate walls... feels like a doctors surgery or hospital or something. im looking for the dark, dusty ones, with shit and corruption everywhere, where funny little men build top notch engines on the floor, the ones that would be lucky to fit 2 cars in there if it was cleaned up and a person 6' would have trouble standing up straight. where did HKS start?? or nismo?? or TRD?? what were their original workshops like back in the 'happy days' era?? where some like fonzie would be tinkering with a set of carbies on kpgc10 cheers Linton
  6. buy a cheap, old school, fun box... like a ke70, ae86, datto, etc. etc.... something you can thrash, but stay within the speed limits... get to know the car, and how to drive.. how it behaves under different circumstances... get it out to track days whenever you can.. you have to crawl before you can walk.. and walk before you can run.. learn to control a $1000 car with 100hp before taking on a $30000 car with 300hp. the gtr is a different kettle of fish to anything on the road in the way it behaves.. its not a constant 4wd like a wrx, evo, porsche, it doesnt respond to point and shoot driving style, its all about smoothness and flowing power delivery.. but they reward the driver who can find the limit and sit there.. push a gtr too hard and they will spit you into the closest hard thing around.. dont push it hard enough and you mayswell be driving a camry v6. you have to have respect and passion for the car you drive.. it becomes a part of you... a GTR is more than just 3 letters and having $30000.
  7. thanks for all the helpful suggestions people... but i think a little project has fallen into my lap. a 1990 ae92 corolla seca sx, used to be my gf's and then we sold it to a young guy she used to work with... he broke the gearbox shortly after and its been parked at his house ever since.. now out of rego and in need of a bit of work. plan is to pick it up for a few hundred, strip it down, do some panel work, paint it in original red, some nice springs and shocks, 15" wheels and good tyres, and rebuild the 4age with a little bit of work done to the head, and do the gearbox of course.. it should suffice my needs for working on something without biting off more than i can chew at the moment, it will be a neat little car and go, turn and stop reasonably well, but i wont get attached to it.. if i plan it right and nut out some bargain bits, i should be able to make some money off it in future as these things in good nick can go for up to $4000 as its an ideal car for a p plater.... giving me some moolah to invest in another project. after that... a friend with no interest in cars has a tidy ke55 with a blown 4k... sitting in his driveway doing nothing. that should keep me busy, if i can do the same again, and make a little bit of money, then i can invest in something a bit better... maybe start up a little wrecks to riches sought of deal. i have the time, know how, and equipment. after that... who knows... a gtr if the budget allows, an ae86 if it doesnt. cheers Linton
  8. check the stop light fuse... if it goes, you'll lose all other lights bar head lamps.
  9. while i agree with your thoughts... and am a huge fan of forced induction... it costs alot to do it properly, this project car isnt going to be a slap together job.. adding forced induction is adding in more components that need to be at a specific level to match the car.. the price of the intercooler and piping at the level of craftsmanship i want is the same cost as a pair of well tuned delorto carbies.. for not a great deal more gain in the real world.. given that with the modest (compared to a stock gtr) power of a modified 4age will still be a handful in a light car on a tight road in a real driving experience.. having more wont necessarily make it better.
  10. yes they are... and they have a 4g93 (or is it 4g63) just like the evos... but the layout, as with the evos is designed off the base car being FWD... evos have alot more develpment in the awd department so they dont behave like a fwd so much... the galants arent the same though. wrxs are the same... but with their north south engine its a tad easier to make more rwd bias.. or you can just disconnect the front driveshafts and have a total rwd.
  11. the 3sgte doesnt have the same appeal as the screaming 4age.. both are a bit on the expensive side to buy... a celica is not a supra and the galant is not an evo and both are front wheel bias.. i thought a bout a gsr lancer, but its not an evo, so scrap that idea.
  12. im not one for engine swaps/conversions.. an rb in a silvia just doesnt sit right with me, the extra weight over the front will make a difference, especially if it doesnt have the boost to make up for it. an sr20 in an r31 however... slung really low and far back may be a different story... but putting a 4 cyl in a skyline, doesnt sit real well... and neither does owning a pintara. i dont want something that requires explaining, like jeremy clarkson says "if take someone out on a date, and you have to explain to them why they are inside a birdcage with plastic windows, then that makes it uncool and it goes on the uncool wall" an fc Rx7 would be good... but a bit expensive still. and im not a rotor boy... its hard enough to break into the hachi crowd.. let alone the rotor fellas. checked out a early 90's supra... had the 7mgte though, so it would require a 1jz at least... then it would need a to4 kit... and the money would add up from there.
  13. YEH BABY!!!!! thats ftmfw!!! thats what i want... 50page build up... tidy as.. not so much the f20c... but thats a top build up... thats what its about... mates, garages, beer, and friendships.. that car is not just his, but belongs to alot of people on that forum that have seen it from day dot.
  14. the 4age will stay.. and it will remain NA, i love the sound of them, they are cheap, and parts are cheap and plentiful i dont care how much it will cost over time... it may be done for 10g, it may run into 20g... who knows... but 20g is affordable over time, with the enjoyment of seeing it come together.. but it has to be acheivable in a short time if need be... maybe 12-24 months.. i dont want to get fed up with it because its taking too long, or lose interest in it and have it sit there.. most of the parts will be sourced from ebay and the like.. done as cheaply as possible but everything micky mouse and lots of care taken to keep it to a high standard of neat. if i got a gtr, i'd get frustrated with having to save for soooo long to buy one thing.. the idea is to buy a few small things each month, clean them, paint them, fit them, move on to the next bit. im open to more options for cars though.. just has to cheapish to buy, small and light, rwd, japanese, brilliant handling and point to point driving.. would prefer NA just to save on the expense of turbos, much less parts involved..
  15. my thoughts exactly.. a well planned and built hachi, keeping with the cult status... will be able to be resold when the time comes.. an r31 built to my liking and mine alone, will only be worth something to me.. which is fine... until the time comes when i want a GTR to occupy the garage space..
  16. got a 32 gtst in the garage at the moment.. agreed... good project... but its not a gtr, will always be a gtst. out of those models above... none have a superior model.. noone will be asking "is it a gtr?? no.. oh, ok".. also, i have a loan over my head for the 32... and i dont want that.. 240z is coming into the age of the prices skyrocketing. yes stagea driveline into r31 wagon would be good... dont know about the wagon though.. im not a fan of the seperate spring/shock combo. my head is saying go the hachi, but my heart is saying go the 31.. ive always wanted to do a NA RB30/26 combo with trumpets and big big cams.. add some bolt on flares and 15x9"-5 rims and its almost JDM. but the hachi is a top little car... the 4age is a brilliant engine and sounds fantastic.. smaller things are generally less expensive, like tyres. my old boy is telling me i should get a mustang... but that would be toooo much time and money and not enough fun at the end of the day... i want something i can chuck on the trailer and take it too the track.. it will be tidy... but not so tidy that im too scared to thrash it. cheers Linton
  17. Hey all... since buying a house in may... i have my very own garage... where i can set up my tools, set up my work space, and not have to worry about packing it all up to move in a year. ive always wanted to build something.... or restore something... completly strip it back and watch a scraper come back to life.. i enjoy the build more than the drive i think. with the house, the budget has taken a beating.. time and labour arent an issue, ill potter with it till its done, purchase parts when it suits, and get it going when i see fit. my biggest fear is taking on something too big, that i cant afford to finish and sits there for too long, wondering if it will get finished and when.. an R32 GTR was on the cards, but the initial purchase price for a cheap one is too much at the moment, and parts are a bit too much aswell.. so here are some of my ideas for a cheap build 1. AE86... im leaning towards this as you can pick up an ADM one for a few g... modifications have been tried and tested and money spent will be worth it in the end... massive range of a/m and 2nd hand parts available. 2. R31 Skyline, can be picked up for a few g... easy to mod, but few have been pushed to the limits of the AE86 and results vary, some handle like dogs, some are ok.. dont want to spend money on it to find out it doesnt perform, but ive always always wanted to go a little nuts on an r31... just because not many people do and theyve been a favourite car of mine for years. 3. Subaru Liberty, early model, fit a WRX engine and drivetrain.. has the ability to perform like a wrx, but may not be worth the time or money. i know for the end price, i could just buy an r32 gtr, or a later model wrx... but this is about the build. whatever the car is... it will have a mild performance mods and exterior mods... but excellent handling and weight distribution, interior will be stripped as necessary... im going for street/putty rd monster... not all out power. i want to change through the gears and still be under the speed limit... not blow my licence in 2nd gear. driveabilty, comfort, and fuel economy are not an issue.... it will be purely a toy... come out every now and then for a thrash.. then reside back to the garage anyone got any other ideas for a neat little build up?? or pros and cons of the above?? the car has to be able to be picked up cheap.. and be worth the work and money.. so that rules restoring and modifying a sigma out. cheers Linton
  18. considering i and alot of other people pay $500 to do a few donuts in an sti and a carby ae86.... id imagine this would go for a few thousand. im considering placing a bid.. this sort of thing doesnt come up often.... or ever.
  19. found some other stuff. RB20/25DET Genuine Nissan VRS kit... missing head gasket only.... all other gaskets still in packaging... exhaust, intake, valve stems, cam cover gaskets... all there. $50 cheers Linton
  20. i got one from DIYtools.com.au, $300 and came day after payment.. its an alloy, low profile jobby that moves around very easy.. check out waranaimports.com or .com.au for alloy jack stands, $99 for 2.
  21. yeh i have one of those bovs on my r32.. its the original sequential. mine has a green insert and it makes a two stage noise... but no flutter..
  22. Coilovers, Boost Controller, Hicas Bar, Lock Rings.... all gone!! found some more bits though. HKS Old School BOV.. its the old style super sequential... makes a mad noise... sounds like a whip crack or something.. makes a very "two stage" noise. bit dodge but in good nick, comes with pipe. $50
  23. you think your unlucky? you got off pretty lightly brah..
  24. coilovers awaiting payment but to answer your question, yes they are fully height adjustable... sorry, i just thought that was a given. hicas bar no probs, its still in the car so ill get it out tomoz, will pm you when ready.. you can pick it up anytime from then.
